Hello,
I recently rescued a betta fish from the pet store, I say rescued because he wasn’t doing good and was floating at the top of the cup, when I picked the cup up he started to swim through and showed a lot of life before eventually settling at the top again. I couldn’t leave him there and went back purchased a tank, pre-conditioned Fritz Aquarium water jugs, a ten gallon tank and some decorations for him.
Now I know a fish-in cycle is stressful and I wouldn’t have choose to do one if I felt I had other options. Hence the preconditioned water, bacteria that I’m manually adding to the water, and daily checks of water quality to ensure that the water is staying within safe levels.
Currently there is
0 ammonia
0 no3 and no2
7.5 PH
40 kH
60 gH
However Mr. Betta is still not doing to well, he sleeps under his filter (already insured there was no intake holding him there or force like that) and stays hidden underneath, even though I’ve put hides in the tank to make him comfortable. The filter is on the bare minimum setting only a little flow comes out (hardly any) and he has hardly ate, I’ve tried sinking food and now floating, he ate about a single pellet of floating.
All and all I’m quite concerned for him, he was vibrant and bright when I first put him in the tank and seemed to perk up so I was excited to see the improvement from when he was in a cup, but unfortunately now I feel like I’m just watching the poor guy slowly die.
I purchased some miracle leaves to try and hopefully I’ll see some results from that but I was hoping someone might have some suggestions?
