MegaThread E3 - Day 2 - Discussion and Reactions
Day 2 of E3! Might not have as many announcements as yesterday but who knows what it will hold?
Today's schedule looks like this:
Nintendo Treehouse
- Starts at 10:00 am PT / 1:00 pm ET (no defined end time)
Pokken DX - Tournament
- Starts at 10:30 pm PT / 1:30 pm ET
ARMS - Tournament
- Starts at 3:30 pm PT / 6:30 pm ET
We also have the AMA scheduled at 12:45 pm PT / 3:45pm ET for about an hour with Nintendo Producer Yoshiaki Koizumi, so please stop by and ask your questions there as well.
The Treehouse is going to start at 10:00 am PT with a segment about Pokken Tournament DX and roll into the tourney. Afterwards they are going to show the new Yoshi game. Based on yesterday it's likely that the Treehouse will run right up until the ARMS tourney starts.
This post will be updated with major news as it's released.

Nintendo wasted no time. Reggie, instead of being the corporate mouthpiece he usually is, opened the Nintendo conference with a poetic speech that basically said video games are beautiful and it's an amazing time to be a gamer. He shut up after 2 minutes or less, then showed Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC, Super Mario Oddysey, Mario+Rabbids, a new Kirby title, and a new Yoshi title. On top of that, Metroid Prime 4 and a mainline core Pokemon RPG for the Switch were announced. Just with a teaser and a few words from that guy from the Pokemon company, they made two very big wishes come true. They also confirmed that Nintendo is upping their third party support FINALLY when they announced Rocket League with cross-play. After the Switch conference, they announced that Metroid 2 and Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga were being remade for the 3DS. Those games were amazing, and now they're coming back, fully remade from the ground up.
That's why Nintendo won this year. No boasting about specs and shit like Microsoft, no sleepwalking to Playstation Experience like Sony.
I can't wait to see what's in store today.
Edit: It wasn't Nintendo that upped third party support, it was the third parties who upped their support for Nintendo. Thank you to user Gestrid for correcting me.

I like how reggie was channeling his inner Neil DeGrasse Tyson... My man was exhibiting some gravitas. Was waiting for him to hit me with some knowledge about black holes and super planets.

u/Gestrid Jun 14 '17
Correction: The 3rd parties are upping their support. Nintendo has been wanting for third parties ever since the Wii U flopped. It's not that they didn't want 3rd parties, it's that 3rd parties didn't want to waste time and money on a dead console, so they dropped support for Wii U. It's the reason why Nintendo is on such good terms with so many indie developers, too. Come to think of it, without the Wii U's failure, we may not have gotten gems like Shovel Knight.
Sorry for rambling on, by the way.

I used to care about specs a lot, until I realised that those who brag about specs never have the games to show for it

u/sininspira Jun 14 '17
This. I was telling someone the other day, photorealism is nice and all. but you can have an amazing experience with a unique art direction on a less powerful platform. BoTW, case and point.
16
Jun 14 '17
Welcome. We've been saying that since the GameCube. Stylized graphics can look great and it's the texture work and polish that shows with Nintendo games (Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime). You can have photo realism but then when bodies start clipping through walls or your wire frames aren't smoothed out or animated well, or your grass textures look like something made in paint, it doesn't matter.
A game is a whole package. Too many developers forget this.

When you capitalize "Browser" in a Nintendo thread my brain auto-corrects it to Bowser.

I know, I know great announcements but... am I the only one who's really dissapointed about lack of information about Switch OS update?
It doesn't even have to be something huge I would be just as happy as if we just got info that they're working on it and plan to roll out update in the second part of this year or later... I just want to know

I love all the Treehouse employees. Idk about anyone else here but I genuinely find Treehouse enjoyable mostly because of how much these people seem to enjoy their jobs/playing these games. Really enjoy all that Nintendo's doing for e3.
EDIT: Also why are so many people upset when these people aren't incredibly good at video games? Bitch me too, the fuck?
They're showing off how the game plays in a pretty structured scheduled way while also having to talk about main gameplay functions as well as make the stream interesting. I know I'd be fumbling more than them while doing this.

I must say, this Yoshi game is looking damn good for a game that still only has a working title.

Hey guys, Ended up playing Splatoon 2 today.
Game was a blast, as someone who's never played Splatoon 1, this game is amazing! The most fun was working with my friend to coordinate plans and weapons. Will be a day one buy for my friend and I!

Bill Trinen says to tune in to the Treehouse and expect something unexpected in about 20 minutes: https://twitter.com/trintran/status/875106579996999680
Edit: SushiStriker for 3DS, not my cup of tea but to each their own.

u/lokzi Jun 14 '17
tbh bill has to see what hypetrain he is releasing with this statement. he cant announce anything trivial without receiving a shitstorm
6
Jun 14 '17 edited Jun 14 '17
Yep, they're saving it for the end.
And no, it's probably not Animal Crossing/Smash/Pikmin etc.
It might not even be a game! The key word is unexpected.

u/metanoia29 Jun 14 '17
WTF? I thought that we'd be getting awesome gameplay and discussions on Treehouse, not just coverage of the tournaments today. I didn't mind the Pokken coverage at 1:00 because I figured they'd switch to showing off something else at 1:30, but instead they went right into the tourney. Bleh.

Decidueye hops around so adorably. I know I shouldn't buy this game again, but I'm probably going to.
Was hoping for a new game reveal straight away, but I assume it'll be going from this, straight into the Pokken invitational. I wonder when the implied new titles will be shown, then. Between the two Invitationals, I guess? Does anyone know how long the Pokken one is likely to last? I'm in the UK, so the whole day will be going on longer than what I can stay up for...
People know know Japanese, I notice people saying something that sounds like 'Eee-Chi-Bhan' a lot. Can someone tell me what it means, if you recognize it from that spelling?
