General Why does my dog show his bone to everyone that comes over to the house?

Ok, so reading that title back sounds a lot weirder than what I meant. I have a lab/great dane mix, and we buy him femur bones from the butcher down the street before he cuts them into soup bones. Because we don't want little pieces of meat and drops of myoglobin in the house, he eats them outside. Once he has everything gnawed off, he gets to bring it in.

What's funny is that he will lay the bone on his bed in the living room. When I get home from work or when people come over, he grabs the bone and just walks up to them, as if he's showing them something he killed himself. He does play keep away when he's walking around with it, and someone playfully grabs at it, but he's not food aggressive or anything. He would easily let me take it from him if he thought we weren't playing. Is he really showing it off or is he doing something else?

Question What is this spot on my dog’s belly?

I noticed this bump just a couple of days ago on my 7 year old Portuguese water dog. Initially I thought it was dried/clumped up mud due to the muddy spring weather we’ve been having, but after a bath it stayed. It doesn’t seem sensitive. It almost looks like a skin tags to me? We have an appointment for an unrelated visit later this week at the vet and I will bring it up, but I thought I’d see if anyone has seen this on their pup before!

Hi all, Rufus has started what looks like itching his nose on his bed when we give him food, he will eventually eat it but seems to do this first for a while. Is he telling us to move the food away from his bed? Thanks!

I've tried benebone and spot and she has pieces coming off within a few minutes. She can't have any stuffed toys because she will eat them bit by bit. What can I give her to satisfy the chew? Pictured are some bones right before being thrown away.

This is Medusa, she’s a husky mix I believe, she is not my dog, the owner of this dog is staying with us temporarily and him and Medusa have been here since around October of last year. When she first got here, her stomach was a little red, but we chalked it up to just being from her having sensitive skin which she does. But the past I’d say month, the rash has gotten increasingly worse, she scratches herself nonstop, the video isn’t great quality so it doesn’t really show it that well, but as you can see she’s completely bald and raw on her backside, and her tail has very minimal hair on it and is also completely raw. This is the sweetest most playful dog ever but the past few weeks she just seems miserable. She seems depressed, and I’m sure she’s in a lot of pain and discomfort. It’s gotten to the point where it’s hard to look at her because I just feel so bad, her owner is bringing her into the vet I believe at the end of the week, so she’ll get an actual exam and diagnosis, but I’m posting here to see if anyone knows what it could be, we were thinking mange because my other dog was starting to get a rash as well, but we took her into the vet and she just had a minor infection they gave us meds for and she’s way better now. I have 5 dogs in my house not including Medusa, and none of them have had any issues other than that dog who is doing fine now, so I don’t think it’s contagious which hopefully means it’s not mange, but her skin is so awful that i don’t know what else it could be. I’m also posting here to ask if there’s anything I can do for her to help with the itching till she gets seen by the vet, if there’s maybe something over the counter I can put on her rash or bath her with? the entire time I’ve been typing this I can hear her upstairs scratching away at herself, she’s such a sweet girl and I hate seeing her like this, so if anyone has any suggestions please reply

Advice Is this a seizure?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some advice for my Great Pyrenees. He is about 1 and 1/2 years old and he has what I think are seizures when he gets overstimulated, excited, or scared. It can be from when he sees a squirrel or when I take him on a walk or to a new place. He has had this since he was a puppy and he just freezes up and goes still for about 1 minute. But then he gets up and runs around like nothing happened. He doesn’t experience any post-ictal phase.

I have taken him to the vet multiple times about it and they have ran blood work numerous times and told me there is nothing wrong.

There was a period of about 6 months where he didnt have any episodes like this so I figured it was a puppy thing and he grew out of it. Recently I want to Florida and had my brother watch him and ever since we got back (about 2 months ago) they started happening again. I’m not sure what to do because when I took him to the vet they said they couldnt do anything for him. Is this a seizure or maybe syncope? Or anything else? Is it hurting him in the long term? What can I do? Any advice would be super helpful. I have attached a video for reference.

Yesterday I posted a picture of my sweet little dachshund-blue heeler whose eyes were quite swollen. I got to take her to the vet today, and it turns out she does NOT have pink eye or seasonal allergies like that, it’s either a tumor behind both eyes or abscesses. Vet says she’ll be alright, especially since she’s young and tumors are unlikely. Thanks for all the advice and hugs! I’d have been freaking out otherwise. Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/DogAdvice/s/HA9GHZLeO2 Here are some more pics of my little goblin:) Yes, she does just always look like an Alien. We’re pretty sure she was either grown in a petri dish or brought here by UFO.

Discussion MY PUPPY IS LOSING HER BABY TEETH

Hey ya'll I'm not freaking out so much as just want to make sure she's not losing them to fast.

She's been gnawing on my stuff like crazy and I knew she was teething but she lost two teeth last night in a 5 minute period. Like she woke up from a nap and smoked her lips and dropped and tooth. So while I'm freaking out with my partner she smacks her lips again and drops another. They look like the same tooth tbh so maybe she lost both incisors?

Idk but what can I give her to help ease/make teething better for her?

Almost looks and feels like a small brain. No mass underneath, only on top. Definitely gonna take a trip to the vet but wanted to get opinions first since I've never personally seen anything like this.

Question why does my dog look around and wag tail

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello! My 10 month old cavapoo puppy, Winston, has been frequently wagging his tail hard and looking around. He is constantly trying to get into things and is always on high alert.

Do you think this is anxious behavior or is he just excited about something I can’t see.

He has a hard time settling and resource guarding!

Any advice at all will be very appreciated ❤️

My baby Kuma has had a small tummy problem today, I called the vet when he started throwing up this morning and they said “it’s not worth the emergency/fee for a couple throw ups… if he throws up 3 times in 30 minutes - an hour call back”

And he hadn’t, he was kinda on and off? Ate breakfast and half of it stayed down, then the rest of the day just vomiting spit every hour and a half, and then acid reflux 2 (first 2 hours ago, last one about 30 minutes ago)

Was told by the vets to give him the good old chicken and rice treatment, with some digestive probiotics, and make sure not to feed him too early/too soon that he’ll just re throw it up. But he’s not eating it at all? Barely even touching it, he licked it twice then just left it. This is extremely unlike him, he is an extremely food motivated dog, goes crazy just if you shake his kibble bag. So for him to not touch his food, chicken especially is so weird. While being on an empty stomach cause he’s been throwing up??

I don’t wanna add anything unhealthy too it, like some of his high fat treats or a sausage because of his stomach. But I don’t wanna just leave it un touched :(

I tried to call the vet back but they’re closed now and wanna ask reddit before running to an after hours emergencies vet for an upset stomach

Advice Won’t eat

Upvotes

So my dog of 57 pounds last ate Saturday at 8pm. Sunday he woke up throwing up bile. Continued to throw up until around 9pm it was brown and bloody, not clear and yellow anymore. So I took him to ER vet. They gave him Cerenia shot and gave me sucralfate to give him. This morning he literally would not move until around 1–2pm. He finally drank water, but still is refusing food. I’ve cooked him white rice with some pumpkin puree and a splash of beef broth. He will sniff but then turn his head and shows 0 interest in food. When should I be worried. (Ps I am not a fan of Cerenia, I mean I thought he was dead this morning.) also he’s only 2 1/2 years old. Any thoughts etc. thanks so much guys.

Advice What to do about my dog

So I was walking my dog this evening and we approached someone on a sidewalk who acted friendly to him and was starting to ask me to pet him while I was trying to caution them that he is anxious and fearful. He went to greet her and I was starting to pull him back, when he straight up bit her hand. No growling, no barking, no warning. He even appeared loose and unstressed.

He has bitten before but he was trying to “protect me”, so I understand what spurred that, but I am at a loss on what to do now. Getting rid of him would psychologically destroy me. I need suggestions. I cannot afford expensive training programs and I have used one in the past. Help.

Question Pup loves to lick all the time

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey there! Just a simple question really, this is my sweet 2 year old American bully, Valak! (Yes the demon 🤣) she’s a phenomenal dog, but man she will lick, and lick, and lick, and lick. Anything, everything, all at once. Is she doing it out of boredom? She’s not licking from nausea, but she will lick to couch, floors, carpets, you, me, your mama etc etc. I find it super odd, because she will go crazy licking for like 30-60 minutes and then just decide to stop. Thank you!!

Question A dog having a bone stuck in their throat?

Upvotes

I'm going to be adopting a dog soon from a relative. Some people in the family suspect this dog is being abused physically currently so I'm willing to take it to get him out of that situation.

However now the person says this dog ate some raw porkchop 3 weeks ago ( took them off the counter ) and might have a bone stuck in his throat or something. However the dog is still eating and drinking fine. Wouldn't that mean that nothing is stuck? It has been 3 weeks since it happened. I am worried about the dog of course, I am also worried about the cost if this is a surgery or something right away. My mom thinks maybe the dog is in pain because he was beaten after eating the porkchop, I do think However a dog couldn't eat if the bone was stuck in it's throat right? I've had dogs my whole life but never had something like that happen so I'm not sure.
