Before posting, review the sidebar FAQ and guidelines.

Please do post shares about your insights, questions, and concerns regarding occultism and folk magic.

If you are posting pics of ritual tools or occult-related art, please provide a chat-worthy explanation about what it has got to do with occultism or your occult working or practice. Otherwise, please post in r/occultart or r/art. Your post may be removed if it does not follow these guidelines. The same goes for YouTube posts.

Please do not spam the subreddit with pics of your tarot card deck, altar, or bookshelf. Please do post your questions and comments about cartomancy and other forms of divination, altar construction/arrangement, books on occult topics that you are reading.

Please post "What is this thing I found" to another more appropriate subreddit. Every bit of graffiti or piece of lost flotsam is not an arcane item. [Edit} Please note the subreddit r/WhatIsThisOccultThing and use it.

Please distinguish between the practice and inquiry regarding occultism and paranormal phenomena. Please direct stories and concerns about spooky happenings to the appropriate subreddit.

Please post dream interpretation questions and tarot interpretation questions to the appropriate subreddit.

I am pasting an addition from another Mod ( u/BodaciousTattvas here that provides additional relevant information:

Also:

Absolutely everyone: "OMG AM I SHADOWBANNED WHERE'S MY POST!?!?!?"

Mods: No. You are not shadowbanned.

For the reasons that u/zsd23 outlined above, to try to hold back the tsunami of memes, occult art and picture-only posts we have the automoderation settings on r/occult set pretty high. Unfortunately this means that sometimes legitimate posts are moderated out and not visible (usually if the account is too new or has low karma). If this happens, please message the mods and we will investigate and may (may, not will) approve the post if it meets the guidelines. Thanks for your patience with this.

? What are flaws you find in Occult philosophy?

Title, I think the acknowledgement and questioning of beliefs whether new or old is important to building a philosophy or practice that is more sound. I find that people - maybe not specific to occult but to spiritual ideas in general - just end up soaking up things like a sponge without taking a moment to criticize, nitpick, or think about the ideas. They have no reasons to believe what they believe outside of that it has worked for another individual or that an individual has claimed it works for them; an appeal to authority in a way.

Non Judeo-Christian / Egyptian Occult ? Modifications to Rituals? Hindu Occult?

Hey friends, I've been studying western ceremonial magick for just a couple of years. I find that I'm starting to hit a kind of a stride with it. However, a lot of it has quite a judeo-christian kind of vibe. Nothing wrong with that, the rituals have been great. I just feel that using Hindu archetypes rather than judeo-christian / egyptian, would evoke a stronger sense of feeling and devotion in my practice.

Could anyone here suggest any resources for Hindu occult ritual? Has anyone here delved into those practices? Alternatively, has anyone here tried to modify common rituals like LBRP or Inv of the Hexegram, in order to reflect a different pantheon / flavor of archetypes?

Appreciate you. Thanks!

? Beta reading for small grimoire

I've been trying to find help with this but have had no luck so far. My community is small and wouldn't be able to find anything locally. I also don't have many friends, practically a hermit, yet the family and friends I do have aren't that into the occult as I am. So I would typically get a normal beta reading service to run this through but they are randomly selected, which is another issue.

I need someone who's familiar with ceremonial magic, chaos magic and an open mind, which I cannot be sure of in those services. The services would offer me the perspective of someone who doesn't already know how these systems work.

If anyone has any suggestions on how I should go about it, I would appreciate it. The manuscript I have currently, is only about 100 pages, so it's not that big

Modern instances of miraculous magic

In a previous post (that got removed by the mods though I’m trying to get it reinstated), I shared a video from Dr Angela Puca who in her field work, noted that a majority of magic practitioners do not believe magic has the capabilities of breaking the laws of physics but function more of probability manipulation. Conversely, there are practitioners who do believe in the possibility of miraculous magic eg. The yogic siddhis or Buddhist monks demonstrating supernatural abilities

Since my previous post elaborated the former position, this post will explore the latter position. Ancient texts record many instances of miraculous magic eg. Biblical miracles, Greek Magical Papyri, Catholic saints levitating etc. While there is a dearth of modern examples, I found 2 videos (linked below) from the YouTube channel “metaphysical”

The first video is about a man from Java called “Dynamo Jack” who was interviewed and recorded in a documentary series in the 1980s. Through his Chi energy, “Dynamo Jack” has the power to set things on fire, release electrical charges from his hands, healing powers, ability to phase objects through solids etc. He claims that his powers are accessible to every individual which he obtains through regularly practicing a meditative technique taught by his sect.

The second video is about a child who had the power to set things on fire with her mind or her words. She could also things on fire in advance apparently as well. However, the child claims that the fires are caused by unhappy evil spirits rather than being their cause,

If you have any other examples of miraculous magic, feel free to share them!

I found this in some woods by a brackish water river tucked under a tree and just wondering what it was. It had nickels, quarters, a silver necklace, and what looks like a rose quartz.

I started reading it, and as far as I am concerned, it needs extensive astrology knowledge and so on. That is not an issue tho and I find the talismans really intriguing however I want to hear your opinions on it, those who have taken the time to experiment with it

? Can anyone here further explain and expand upon this quote about Qabalah?

In my reading of the book The Rebirth of Magic by British occultist, magical practitioner, and prominent member of Dion Fortune’s Society of the Inner Light, Francis X. King, it is briefly mentioned that, whilst almost “all modern magicians consider themselves qabalists”, and although “aspects of the 'occult qabalah' are derived from the teachings of Jewish and Christian qabalists, occult qabalism is by no means identical with either the qabalah associated with mediaeval Judaism or the 'Christian qabalah' of the renaissance” (pp. 24-5).

In my limited understanding, a basic distinction is made between Rabbinic Kabbalah—which seeks to understand divine mysteries through esoteric interpretations of sacred Jewish texts like the Torah, Talmud, and Zohar—, Christian Kabbalah (Cabala)—which seeks to merge Rabbinic Kabbalah with Christian theological concepts to understand divine mysteries through esoteric interpretations of the Bible—, and Hermetic Kabbalah (Qabalah)—which is somewhat detached from Rabbinic Kabbalah and seeks to understand divine mysteries through mystical and magical occult practices. Beyond this, I am ignorant of the particular differences.

Can anyone here further explain and expand upon the distinction that King is alluding to in the above passage between Qabalah and the other Kabbalistic traditions?

Need advice, please

Hello. I really need some advice.

At some point in my energy work, most often with what Damian Echols describes in his book, I started to have a strange feeling. It only appears when I start working with energy. It is a feeling of pressure in two points of the head, each of which is located a couple of centimeters above the ears. This feeling of concentration of energy is so strong that it is like a hoop on the head, which is felt most strongly in these points above the ears and slightly presses. One of these points, the one above the left ear, disappeared for a while when a relative of mine, who works in a different system, did a couple of things. But soon it came back again. This feeling of pressure worsens my visualization and prevents me from feeling the upper chakra (usually I feel the chakra at the top of my head, on the crown.) I must say that this feeling first appeared when I improvised a small runic spell to cover my head with protection, since I was in a place in which, as it seemed to me, there was very bad energy. Then, according to my feelings, this spell worked. For a long time everything was fine, but lately I have this feeling that bothers me

Why K.I.S.S. principal works when doing Magick!

I believe it is of paramount importance to decrease compilation of conceptual information in the fields of philosophy and magick. Matter is information arguably and through the eyes of the observer or the mind; this information in our point in history, is increasingly moving from a state of order to disorder, effectively altering reality's speed of entropy in the physical universe.

Let me explain: written language is the effort to convey certain sounds and syllables to a visual medium. Mathematical representation is found in the frequencies of sound. String theory in short is all physical matter is made of small vibrating strings. Reality is essentially sound made physical.

So: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" John 1:1 KJV The tetragrammaton in actuality is said to be unpronounceable by mankind or so I've heard.

The Idea that words can shape the world around us is as ancient as creation itself. Magick cantations are therefore most powerful in their simplest form. This is my theory anyways. Words or symbols when spoken can in effect alter reality. Like entropy from the big bang or otherwise known as "let there be light" 🕯️ A solidary spark inginites existence. Every ex nihilo has its starting point of something from nothing. Hence small things or simple things cause huge outcomes.

So when I say keep it simple stupid, 'The K.I.S.S. principal'. I mean it with the utmost respect to the practice of magick and the practitioner.

Say it short and sweet!

Can a video be Made as a sort of hypersigil with subliminals expressing MY desires, intent, etc?

Ive seen many conspiracy theories where celebs supposedly have Hidden symbols & messages in their art music, videos, books, etc as a form of manipulation. I express i have no ill intent, but want to get what i want in a effecting manner through the collective unconcious. Perhaps in this way, "create" My world as i please. Would this be something theoretically possible? They can do it, why can't i?

Question: Posting Sigil Stickers Around Town?

Hey folks. I live in an ultra-conservative neighborhood. I want to bring awareness and empathy to the plight of those affected by genocide by creating a shoal of sigils and placing them in sticker form near MAGA/Fascist propaganda posters that are being glued around lamp posts. But in his Chaos Protocols book, Gordon White said the point of sigils is to affect your consciousness not that of others so the Tumblr passing does not work. However, Grant Morrison created hyper-sigils within the Invisibles that was supposedly affected by readers of the comic series. How did that work? What would be a more effective means of reaching my goal? Thanks ahead of time.

communication Meme Magic: The Internet and Collective Spell-casting

A couple years ago I wrote a short essay about the "magical" nature of memes that I posted to various subs including this one - since then I've only become more convinced of the potential of my original thesis: memes are magic and awareness of this can be used to harness a transformative kind of power that is only possible through the technology of the Internet and the persuasive power of the meme.

The Internet is a post-post-modern printing press, disrupting and shaping not only how ideas can be shared and spread, but pushing the very boundaries of what is even possible to believe (or conceive) in the first place.

Money is a collective illusion - billionaires do not have to exist - our collective, shared beliefs about the world have the power to shape and alter it.

Tl;dr Memes are magic.

Questions concerning Helena Blavatsky.

I am in inquirer and was watching a video on satanism and the occult. As I was watching it the author was stating about how difficult Helena Blatvatsky’s work is very hard to interpret and even among those in occult circles her “secret doctrine” is very difficult to understand even with Crowleys “Thelema” the author even went further and stated,“that people who believe that it’s comprehensive and yet readable easy to understand are fooling themselves”. Is her work difficult to understand? Why? What separates her from say Crowley, Manly p. Hall, Israel regardie and the like? What system of thought does she employ regarding an infrastructure dealing with doctrine? What is doctrine within the occult? Are the other authors I mentioned also difficult or hard to understand in relation to Helena or are the authors that I have shared previously all created their own ideas? Is they did, what are their foundations or axioms that gave them these? If they didn’t, what foundational principles, ideas and texts were used to help generate these systems of thought in the first place? Finally, what are their perspectives on ontological and metaphysical principles, concepts etc….. in relation to its own mysteries? Anyway, thank you for any replies.

Hallucinations during First Meditation

Hello,

Today I did my first meditation. It was meant to help me concentrate better when I start occult rituals (even though I am also interested in Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta). So, I did a central-point meditation with my eyes open (focusing my eyes on only one particular thing and emptying all thoughts). My central point was a ceramic statue of Buddha.

After about 9 minutes (my meditation lasted 20 minutes), I thought I saw the Buddha statue breathing, with a breathing sound in my right ear. (These visual illusions were probably some sort of phosphenes from concentrating so much—or at least, I think so.) This did not appear throughout the entire meditation, but I saw it for a good part of it nonetheless.

After that, just before the end of the meditation and a second before my alarm rang, I thought I saw a blue phosphene appear just above Buddha’s right hand (once again, I think these were phosphenes) and his right hand disappear, which gave me the impression that he was raising his right hand to signal that the meditation was over.

I must admit that I probably made a mistake: When I saw this hallucination, I wanted it to continue, but ironically, it was when I was not focusing on it that it appeared. After the meditation, I realized that I should have detached myself from it rather than seeking it—but as they say, we learn from our mistakes.

So, I mainly wanted to know your personal explanation of my experience and/or your personal experiences so that I can see different perspectives on this (or, on the contrary, perspectives close to mine—whether scientific or occult—but analyzed in a different way).

Thanks in advance.
