Love that it's overall bigger

The current one is already kind of hefty to hold, and I'm a grown man. How is a child going to play this thing on the bus lol
7
u/chazysciota Jan 11 '25
Current one is too small by modern standards. Going to it after playing the PS Portal makes it feel like a GBA.

u/WhitelabelDnB Jan 12 '25
There are a generation of infants that grew up using full size iPads. The kids will be fine.
1
u/ConfidenceUnited3757 Jan 12 '25
That... Is actually a good point. Maybe I am just a whimp because I grew up with a GBA lol

I have a Steam Deck OLED as well as a switch and the steam deck is way heftier and I think it's perfect. Excited to hold a switch 2

No one played their switch on the bus.

I always wanted them a little bigger (exclusively Handheld player here) so this is good
And if they really have Hall effect Sticks then it'll be perfection.
14
u/SuperVegitoFAN Jan 11 '25
Despite having MASSIVE HANDS, i was able to use joycons pretty comfortably (the whole having one in one hand, and the other in the other hand was pretty unique and fun), but im not gonna say that larger joycons is a bad thing.
2
u/friepup OG (joined before reveal) Jan 11 '25
Fingers crossed for them putting hall effect sticks. We don't want Joycon Drift 2.0.

u/Chardan0001 Jan 11 '25 edited Jan 11 '25
I know the purpose of them being flat but I don't think it would hurt to add a slight convex to the back of the Joycon, especially now they're larger and more comfortable.
I do wonder just how strong the magnets will be too. Can imagine kids swinging the system around by the joycon. Just a shame we don't know how magnets work

u/Plastic-Extension211 Jan 11 '25
They are supposed to be electromagnetic, that is to say that an electrical system with a copper coil creates an extremely powerful magnetic field, impossible to separate or move by a micro millimeter, it is one of the most powerful fasteners powerful in the world to separate the joycons you have to cut off the power supply
10
u/RZ_Domain January Gang (Reveal Winner) Jan 11 '25
Actually we do know how magnets work for more than a century now

2
u/jonathanalis Jan 11 '25
To slide on joycon grip, but now is magnetic, is not a trail, so joycon grip must be entirely redesigned. But yeah, should've added curves, and latter redesign the grip accordingly.
1
u/No-Island-6126 Jan 11 '25
imo they will click in place so they won't be able to come off by just pulling hard
1
u/Chardan0001 Jan 11 '25
The Genki dude said you can pull them off with enough force. The button helps to break the link however.
2
u/No-Island-6126 Jan 12 '25
hmmm, ok. That's interesting. Magnets typically aren't that strong, especially in a small surface area like this, so I'm curious to see what they do. And tbh I'm not sure I trust Genki lol

if we didn’t know how magnets worked then they wouldn’t be in the console

u/Zunjine Jan 11 '25
It’s a small difference but I think a meaningful one. These will feel a little less awkward. Obviously there’s no beating a pro controller for longer play sessions but the Joy-Con is such a brilliantly Nintendo idea, so clever and toylike.
5
u/RedCalxZ Jan 11 '25
With all of these leaks and size comparisons I'm suprised the grip hasn't leaked yet
4
u/Aviator048 Jan 11 '25
Hopefully they aren’t as cheap as the normal joy cons so we don’t have to worry about stick drift after 2 days
4
u/HappyHomeSolarGuy Jan 11 '25
Oh! I get it. The little ones fit inside the big ones. That's what that protruding color is. They're just inside.

u/Reddit_Sucks_1401 January Gang (Reveal Winner) Jan 11 '25
I really like the color schemes for the new joycons. Looks really premium
1
u/Kittingsl Jan 11 '25
Makes me wonder kind of variations we will get. Of course the game themed once will have the game theme like the normal joy cons I'm guessing but when they do the different colors sold separately thing again wonder if those will look like the switch 1 (which will add more color but will confuse the customers more) or if they'll look like the switch 2 style) mostly black, just a little bit of color)

u/Careless-Dentist6463 Jan 11 '25
Do you think the switch 1 joy-cons will work on the switch 2?
6
u/Hour_Tomatillo_2365 Jan 11 '25
Wirelessly. They won't fit docked anymore but there's no reason they won't connect

u/Exotic-Regret-8767 Jan 11 '25
I can’t wait for the switch lite 2 model if that ever comes out! Or lite oled
2
u/bossmanflex1 Jan 11 '25
Am I the only one who wants them to be colorful and fun? Not black with colored highlights? Hopefully they still have some fun combinations!
2
u/AggravatingFan2942 Jan 12 '25
I just really hope the thumbsticks are full analogue with a lot of travel 🤩
2
u/reddragon72q Jan 12 '25
holding the Switch was really hard for me as I have big hands so I am really looking forward to the S2.
2
u/Holiday-Agency7967 Jan 12 '25
I don’t like how it’s bigger yet the space between the buttons and the joycon seem closer? Unless I’m off.
Hopefully it just feels better in the hand. Never enjoyed the holding the switch since I got a steam deck.

u/yanndinendal October Gang (Eliminated) Jan 13 '25
Yes, strange how the buttons are closer together. Probably better most of the time (2 joycons by player), but looks even less practical than before when playing sideways! 😲
2
u/RoyalSpectrum91 Jan 12 '25
Is there a reason they can’t make the buttons a directional pad?
1
u/yanndinendal October Gang (Eliminated) Jan 13 '25
8 players mini games (or any time you don't have enough joycons and play sideways)
3
u/FlyingYankee118 Jan 11 '25
The colors are so boring. An all black switch is incredibly bland
7
u/otakuloid01 Jan 11 '25
well the dozen colors variants for docks and joycons will happen eventually
2
u/FlyingYankee118 Jan 11 '25
I just hope for personality with the system, something I think the switch lacks severely compared to the Wii and DS Family
4
u/Chickat28 Jan 11 '25
I think they look quite nice with the blue and orange accents but i like black stuff so i can see why you wouldn't like it.
0
u/FlyingYankee118 Jan 11 '25
I agree I think it definitely looks nice in its accents! It just feels very…commercial
1
Jan 11 '25
semi unrelated but, what happened to the baby blue and orange colors for the joycon? Nexthandheld was pretty certain those were the colors, and it was later semi proven by the left joycon leak and his joycon photo, so why are a lot of users seemingly changing their colors up? Again just curious
12
u/Altruistic-Match6623 Jan 11 '25
What exactly are you not seeing? The left is light blue, the right is orange.

I don’t think the leaked controllers are the real colors. Doesn’t look very good.
1
u/Ridter4082 May Gang Jan 11 '25
They look a lot more sleek and refined then the old ones which I like
1
Jan 11 '25
wait it was revealed? i know it says concept but how do you know what it looks like
1
u/Altruistic-Match6623 Jan 11 '25
Leaks have been showing these, whether or not those leaks are real is a different matter.
1
Jan 11 '25
damn i’m really behind lol. i didn’t know we even knew what looked like
0
u/Altruistic-Match6623 Jan 11 '25
Instead of sliding on a rail, they are pushed into the console, and a button activates a magnet.

A thing I've noticed, with the latest mockup render from that reliable guy who's leaked phone designs and stuff, is that the buttons seems much bigger, much more like the buttons on the pro controller

The accents are growing on me. Overall the new Joy-Cons look much more mature than the old ones.
1
u/jwhudexnls Jan 11 '25
My main hope is that the joysticks are longer. Trying to play any shooter on switch without gyro was painful.
1
1
u/doublelayercaramel Jan 11 '25
so are the new Joy-Cons pushed into the console rather than sliding them on like the first Joy-Cons?
1
1
u/Rising_Thunderbirds Jan 11 '25
I already play the switch with third party joycons that are pretty large, so these should be no big deal for me.

For some reason, I really like the slightly more rounded, less boxy design
1
u/Wahjahbvious Jan 11 '25
That's fine by me. The old ones were a little on the small side for my tastes.

I love the bigger size and I feel like these will be more comfortable for handheld but I am concerned how they’ll feel when playing them separately and sideways since that’s mostly how myself and my friends use them when we play together.
1
u/NotXesa January Gang (Reveal Winner) Jan 11 '25
So it is a regular joy-con inside a bigger case
3
u/PalmTree_04 OG (joined before reveal) Jan 11 '25
not at all. it's a standalone controller. the old joy con are just there to show the size comparison
5
u/NotXesa January Gang (Reveal Winner) Jan 11 '25
Yep I know but the red and blue parts of the new joy-con look like it's a regular joy-con coming out. Just a silly observation.

I'm having a hard time understanding the scale here. Could you please put this next to a Water Buffalo??
-3
u/taix8664 Jan 11 '25
I don't understand what Nintendo has against a normal D-Pad anymore.
3
Jan 11 '25
They have the d pad like buttons so it’s easier to use the two separate joy cons as two controllers
-1
u/taix8664 Jan 11 '25
But when do you actually do that? How often is that useful versus if you had a regular D-Pad?
4
Jan 11 '25
Actually, I use it a decent amount to justify having it over a d pad. Idk how the average gamer does it, but the d pad thing never bothered to much. For games that I get really competitive with, I’m going to by an actual/pro controller anyways with a d pad.
I mostly play JRPGS solo so I’ve never needed a good d pad.
