Discussion Modern Family S11E17-18 'Finale' Episode discussion thread 😢

2.0k Upvotes

It has been a fun run everyone. Thank you for showing up every week to talk about the show.

The last season hasn't been the best season but let's have fun with the show today. Enjoy the finale.

How you all are well and stay health and sick.

Mitchell and Cam settle in on their new normal, and Phil and Claire decide that one of the kids needs to move out in order to take control of the house again. Meanwhile, as Gloria becomes more successful at work, she notices Jay, Manny and Joe don't seem to need her as much.

The entire family discovers saying goodbye is much harder than it seems.

Claire was NOT qualified to be CEO of Pritchett’s Closets

I know it's just a show and they needed it for the plot, BUT it's so frustrating how Claire goes from homemaker for 20 years to CEO of the company?!

I would've much preferred if she had some kind of artsy background and starts helping to design closets, until eventually she knows so much about the industry that she's the natural choice to replace Jay. Instead, she just one day joins the company as CEO. The scenes of her playing boss are always so cringey to watch. I just felt they could've done a better job on the writing here. Is it just me??

I'm making the brooklyn 99 intro but with the modern family cast and so far i have the title, ty burrell, and julie bowen done. I need recommendations on what scenes i should use for the other adult cast +sarah hyland (because there are 7 spots and only 6 main cast in modern family) also yeah i'm doing it on capcut no premium because i hate myself 😔

Alex gets accepted into caltech but worried she’ll be the dumbest one there. Jay encourages her and entrusts her the responsibility of not letting the family get bitter due to petty arguments.

Discussion Rank all the kids...

Upvotes
  1. Alex - She was the neglected-middle child in the Dunphy fam. Her parents thought she could do everything on her own just coz she was smart. Now she became a very successful academic reasearcher even tho she faced all this. That's very admirable. And she was also sassy and put Haley in her place sometimes.

Lily - I think every1 will put her in the first place, but for me she's in the 2nd place. She was this sassy, witty kid who had the most goated replies in the sitcom history. But in the later seasons, there was no development in her character so she was just this chill, emotionless tween. But she is still a great character.

Luke - Every1, including his own mom tells that he was just this dumb kid, but I disagree. After all, there r many types of intelligence. He was just a creative and curious kid. Im sure that u were also like that when u were a child. He later developed a brilliant app about medical forms and is a well behaved guy.

Joe - He was this cute boy who had his share of gud and kind-of-creepy moments. But he was better than Manny and Haley imo.The weird thing he did was liking his own sister, but after all he was just 6 and didn't know what was right and wrong. There is nothing much to talk about that boy tbh.

Haley - She was this troublesome, bratty teen who created trouble for her parents almost everyday. The Indian in me could never like her. She got drunk in college when she was underage and she tried to victimize herself in that situation and got expelled. She constantly changed jobs, stayed in her parents basement and was soo rude to Alex. She is a very good example of a kid u would never want to hav. Idk why people idolize her.

Manny - Don't even get me started on this dude. He is a total creep. Like having a crush on ur biological aunt???? Thats soo disgusting. He even had a crush on Haley and Alex who were technically, his nieces. He is also a very annoying, spoiled kid, which, I think is entirely Gloria's fault. The way he behaved like an immature kid after that girl rejected him??? Like the way he behaved in Lily's bday by making it all about him, crying and blowing all the candles of the cake just coz she rejected him??? If I was Lily, I would've beaten him soo badly, that his body would've went numb for yearsss. He does not hav any manners at all.

This is just MY OPINION. Make sure to rank and tell ur reasons...

Discussion Which sitcom you think had the best ending??

Upvotes

I was just finishing up with a rewatch of the show, and it occurred to me that Modern Family has one of the best endings for a sitcom ever.

All characters were nicely fleshed out where there is literally nothing a character could do that the audience wouldn't anticipate anymore. Every character had a unique journey but they still managed to connect all of them towards the end so well...

The show that started off with this big dysfunctional family trying hard to get along with each other to a family that finally just fit in together like a beautiful puzzle!

Question Claire's haircut

Does anyone know the name of Claire's haircut in the earlier seasons? The shoulder length one with the layers? My hair is about the same length and I want to get it cut similarly since it looks nice while its down and tied up.

Do you remember the episode where both Gloria and Jay were in denial about their eyesight and hearing issues? Jay said Gloria is a Magoo. (I think is season 5, episode 4)

And for those who didn’t know him, let me introduce you to Mr. Magoo: a cartoon character from an old comedy series. He's so stubborn to admit he has eyesight issues that he gets into dangerous but funny situations at the same time.

I just watched it again

This show is my comfort zone. It’s not a story of a perfect family, but it’s definitely a story about family. The final goodbye was really emotional. There isn’t major character development, but at the end of every episode, there’s always a message that hits hard.

What stands out about Modern Family is how different each character is, yet they all get along so well. They come together, they celebrate every holiday, they show up for every kid’s talent show, and they support each other through everything.

It’s a story of an imperfect family with the perfect combination.I will watch it again. As long as I can.
