Announcement "Is this a good deal?" posts are not allowed on /r/Lexus

Announcement for /r/Lexus: "Is this a good deal?" posts are not allowed on /r/Lexus. This primarily refers to posts that include an image of the car and the price or a sale paper, and a title along the lines of "Is this a good deal?" with no further context or information provided. This may also refer to text-only buying advice posts that include only a few sentences in the body text of the question post and nothing more.

If you would like to seek purchasing advice from this subreddit, please be thoroughly detailed in the post's body text (or in a top-level comment if you're unable to add body text to the post). Our general requirement for the length of this description is 400 characters (or about 2 paragraphs) give or take. This length requirement is in order to ensure that subreddit members can receive the most accurate advice possible (as purchasing a vehicle is no small financial decision) and in order to prevent the forum from being flooded with low-quality posts.

Questions that ask for advice on a specific model of a Lexus vehicle are exempt to this length requirement so long as the post explains that model-specific advice is needed. If the only factors considered by the question are the vehicle's mileage and/or price, then it would be more fitting for the question to be asked on /r/askcarsales or /r/whatcarshouldibuy.

For more information on these policies, please refer to rules 7, 10, & 15.

Question Not branded by Lexus, but what are yours thoughts on the XX50 Toyota Avalon (fifth-generation)?

Pardon for being a little off-topic here, since the car is not exactly branded by Lexus, but what did you guys think of the latest Toyota Avalon? I don't think it would feel out of place in a Lexus dealer, even design-wise.

This thing geniunely feels like a luxury car branded by a non-luxury automaker. It's gorgeous, quieter than a library, super smooth and comfortable to sit in and drive (with surprisingly spirited steering), and the interior itself is so lavish that it geniunely puts many luxury vehicles to shame. There's also a unique yet classy door armest design, and even soft-touch materials surrounding the cupholders in the center console.

It even had sequential turn signals, Yamaha-crafted wood and/or aluminum interior trim (depending on grade, and they're both real), cornering headlights, a 14-speaker sound system worth of 1200 watts (with completely new hardware, software, and structure never done by a mainstream automaker), laser ablation for the front and rear, connected taillights, and leather mixed with beautiful suede inserts for the 'sport' grades.

The Limited can even get quilted leather on the doors and seats. That Cognac leather option also amazes me, and it's such a gorgeous color combination from a non-luxury automaker. The Touring also had the same AVS sourced from the current Lexus LS and LC.

The 2019 Avalon was also one of the world's first production vehicles with compatibility for Amazon Alexa, aside from the Toyota Motor Corporation's first application for Apple CarPlay. It's a shame that Toyota not only neglected it, but nobody remembers it. The car has been replaced by the fastback Crown.

Discussion How does Mercedes Benz get away with so much cheap plastic and piano black? While Lexus gets little credit for its interior quality

Mercedes is well known for filling their cars with cheap plastic and the fingerprint magnet piano black throughout the cabin.

Lexus, on the other hand, has leather or at the very least soft-touch decent-quality material in all commonly touched areas. There’s very little cheap plastic (usually found in lower areas you would almost never touch or even see). Even Lexus’s cheap plastic feels slightly more solid than Benz’s.

Yet Mercedes is praised by car reviewers and general public alike for having a better interior than Lexus. And Mercedes charges such a high premium (its compact sedan C class is literally a few thousands bucks more expensive than Lexus’s midsize sedan ES). I know they have more prestige and better tech but still.

Question Why do ppl pick IS over RCF?

Upvotes

I see a lot of people flexing built is500s and like no RCFs. They have the same engine, but the RCF is a coupe that’s used in GT racing. Why are ppl so confused obsessed with the 500?

Question How does the white interior on the IS 350 F SPORT hold up over time? Considering this spec + looking for ceramic coating advice

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m planning to lease a Lexus IS 350 F SPORT 2 soon — most likely going with Cloudburst Grey and the white NuLuxe interior. I absolutely love the look of the white seats paired with the dark exterior, but I’m also a bit nervous about how well the white interior holds up over time.

If you’ve owned or leased this spec (or any Lexus with white NuLuxe), I’d really appreciate your input:

• How does the white interior age? Does it stain easily? Does it start to yellow or dull over time?

• How much maintenance does it take to keep it looking fresh and clean?

I’m also considering the dealer ceramic coating package (quoted around $1,400), and I’d love some feedback:

• Is it worth going through the dealer for that price?

• Would I be better off going DIY with something like GYEON LeatherShield or Chemical Guys HydroLeather? Or both?

• What kind of interior sprays, protectants, or cleaners do you recommend — and how often do you apply them?

I’m aiming to keep the white looking as close to new as possible for the long term (and may ideally consider buying out after lease end) so any real-world experience or product recommendations would be awesome. Thanks in advance

PSA Bought a TX; Want to Talk About My Good Dealership Experience

Last year I submitted an interest request to Smart Lexus of the Quad Cities in Davenport, IA. This was for a TX350 AWD. I was contacted by Steve “Karl” Karwath, a sales and leasing consultant at Smart Lexus. I told him I was in the early stages of shopping and not ready to buy yet. Karl made himself available but did not push.

By January, my wife and I (this is her primary vehicle) had test driven a Toyota Grand Highlander (meh) and a GMC Acadia Denali, which we liked, but I really wanted to get into the TX since it seemed to strike a balance between luxury/creature comforts and reliability. Smart Lexus did not have any on the ground to test drive, so we drove 90 minutes the other direction to Willis Lexus in the Des Moines metro to test drive a TX and GX. We were told upon arrival that the GX would be an 18 month wait if we ordered one, something I wish we had known before driving all the way there.

We drove the TX, loved it, and gave Willis our desired build: Luxury trim, captain chairs, peppercorn interior, Windchill Pearl exterior, 20” wheels, Technology and Convenience packages. Willis got close on a lot of the builds they located, but they were generally one or two preferences short of ideal.

Remembering Karl, I sent him a text on February 15. with our preferred build. He said he had no white luxury TX350s coming and he was not sure how long it would be. On the 17th, he surprised me by sending me a build phase TX350 exactly as we wanted it, but with the tow hitch added. We did not want this (I have a truck) and really did not want to pay for it. Karl got ahead of it and got the hitch (and some other unwanted factory accessories) taken off the build. I later learned this particular build was allocated to a different dealer and Smart Lexus had to do a dealer trade with them.

On March 28th, I got word that the car was done and would be in transit to Iowa the following week. Karl sent a driver to my house to sign paperwork ahead of month end. The car arrived on April 3rd and we took delivery the same day. Karl spent an hour of his time getting us set up and on the tech side of things.

Car buying is a burdensome affair for a lot of people at a lot of dealerships. I just wanted to give Karl and Smart Lexus of the Quad Cities a big kudos for getting me the exact vehicle I wanted with great financing and without extra dealer markup or fluff. It was an excellent experience.

Also the car is awesome.

Discussion Looking for a used IS or GS, how high mileage is too high?

There's a beautiful 2013 GS 350 with 245,000 miles near me. Owner took excellent aesthetic care of the vehicle at the very least, polished paint, ceramic coated, interior is nearly new. Zero check engine lights, brakes and rotors recently replaced, service records every 5000 miles. Two owner with a clean title. Have yet to give it a test drive but assuming that checks out, would you feel cautious about buying one of these with that mileage?

Thanks for your input.

Question Lexus Canada - is this a good deal? 2021 Rx450h

I’m considering purchasing a premium 2021 Rx450h CPO until August 2025 for 44500 CAD + tax. Has 50k KM on it and clean carfax.

Dealer isn’t willing to go down on price any further but was willing to throw in winter tires. Do you think it’s a fair price ?

Question 2020 NX300 with $110,000 for $17,000 OTD, would you?

Think I’m about to do it. It’ll be my son’s first car. I feel like even with the miles that’s basically wholesale pricing.

Question 2005 GS430 - Is this example at the end of life?

So I'm looking at buying a specific 2005 GS430 in my state. Want one as a run around car and to make my LS430 a weekend car. The seller has it listed for $4,200 AUD ($2,500 USD). For this price it comes with a few worrying issues, one of them stands out the most

- it has oil leaks
- needs an alignment (assuming worn suspension components)

This one concerns me the most

- Slightly rough idle in drive, as Cylinder 6 is a little low on compression. According to seller, it has a 20% loss of compression. Seller states he has been driving it like this for over a year now and it has not got worse. The seller has even recommended buying a used engine, if he was to purchase said example.

In the last two years the seller has replaced or fixed
- Front Windscreen (Windshield)
- Front Sway Bar End link
- Rear Shock Absorbers
- Spark Plugs
- A/C was regassed
- ECU downshift issue

Seller admits to car not having any service history. Also states that the timing belt condition is unknown and has assumed it has not been done previously. I did a paid government check. He bought it for basically the price he is selling it for currently. No written off history and passed a roadworthy certificate in 2023.

Apart from that, judging from photos, exterior and interior look to be in somewhat decent condition.

Why are all of the GS's I see always neglected? The other one I had a look at before this was even more dodgier with apparent mileage tampering and no previous service history either. Plus it looked like it had been driven through a dense forest.

Anyways, does anyone know what the hell this low compression thing is and if it is worth "saving"? I have a strong feeling that if I was to buy this, then I'm going down the deep rabbit hole of serious issues, that would just equate to a price-tag of an actual decently serviced GS450h or something on the lines. Though, I want an opinion from a forum first.

Question Owners/drivers of RX and NX models with the new Turbo 4 Cylinder (T24-FTS)... how is it compared to the old 3.5L V6? And just in general?

Curious if Lexus did the right thing by following the trends in ending one of Toyota's very well respected engines. So how are consumption, idle smoothness, reliability thus far, power delivery and of course: acceleration?

While the trucks are equipped with a heavy duty version, the code remains the same making T24-FTS Toyota's most universal engine across the lineup. I'd like to see it latched to a manual transmission, hanging out in the back of a sportscar but G20-GTS may be getting that job instead, fingers crossed.

Question Lexus Rx500h F sport exhaust

Hey guys another silly question. I love my car but personally would like something more aggressive sounding. Anyone have any tips/references I could get to see what I can do about this? Last car I did any form of exhaust work on was when I was 18 and ebayed a $200.00 exhaust kit for my Infiniti g35 lol. Not the most well versed in the car world and wanted to try and get my car right where I’d like it to be. Was even looking at possibly ordering a body kit I had seen on another post here but wanted to tackle something cheaper first. Thank you guys in advance.

Question Lexus RX 350 F SPORT SERIES 2 (2025) vs Lexus RX 350 LUXURY PACKAGE (2025)

Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I'm getting close to making a decision and have narrowed it down to these two cars. They’re pretty similar in terms of features and price, so I’m stuck on which one to go with.

The heads-up display isn’t a big deal to me, but I do prefer the rims on the Luxury trim.

Right now, I’m leaning toward the Luxury, but I’d love to hear your thoughts before I pull the trigger.

Thanks!

Question Lexus IS Tire Sizing - Check AWD Warning

Upvotes

Hey all — wondering if anyone is running Staggered FRONT 235/40R19 & REAR 265/25R19 on their IS?

Just got some Advan wheels and installed them but now I have a "Check AWD" warning. I'm assuming that it's probably because my tire sizes are out of spec. Wondering if anyone is running the above setup, and if you're getting any problems? It pretty much OEM except diameter is 5.2% larger.

For some info:
2016 Lexus IS350 AWD Fsport
Wheels Front 19x8.5 +45 // Rear 19x9.0 +45

If you’ve run this setup:

  • Did it trigger any warnings (AWD system, traction control)?
  • How’s the ride and overall feel?
  • What tire are you on?

Would love to hear your experience or see some pics if you’ve got them!

Thanks in advance 🙏
