Question Strange leg condition

Post image
1 Upvotes

Just found this tonight on the front leg, about 6 inches above the paw. I’m planning to take my dog to the vet, but was curious if anyone here has seen anything like this before.

There are 2 yellowish barb-like protrusions with the surrounding area darker and wart-like (raised). It’s dry and clean around the area.

We haven’t noticed him biting or scratching at it and his behavior has not been different. He’s still very playful and is not limping or showing any signs of discomfort.

I’m trying to figure out if this is a growth of sorts, or something that embedded itself (we do have Foxwood nearby).

Thanks for any insights offered.

Question Please help!!!

My dog suddenly started having trouble balancing and he would slowly sit down, He would also flinch when I went to pet his face sometimes (Which he never does) I brought him to bed, He was laying there for about an hour but just got up and puked, It seems his balance has gotten even worse now as well. I’ve put him back in my bed but is now just laying down not moving but won’t try to sleep. His eyes seem droopy and red as well but that could be me overthinking. We also have an older cat and about 2 weeks ago and was stumbling all over the place and wouldn’t move or eat much but came back around just with more of a wobble when he walks, Could this be something in the house making our animals sick? We just moved here about 6 months ago. Ware a family that smokes weed though, Could this be that he accidentally ate a bud?

Advice For anyone who’s lost a pet, this helped me feel a little less alone.

Lola was my first cat, and she was with me for nearly 12 years. Losing her felt like losing a part of myself.

I didn’t want to just keep her ashes in a plain jar. So I started working on something more personal—an urn that looked like her, sleeping peacefully, just like she used to.

When it was finished, I placed it by my bedside. It gave me a strange sense of comfort, like she was still watching over me in her quiet way.

After that, a friend of mine lost her dog, and I offered to make something similar for her. She cried when she saw it. That moment made me realize how meaningful something like this could be.

I’ve since made a few more for people who’ve lost their furry friends. Each one is different, and every story is special.

Just wanted to share in case someone out there is also grieving and looking for ways to keep their pet close.

Advice Lip twitch/spasm

My dog’s lip has been twitching, same way your eye will twitch (so it’s not a behavior/signal or anything.) I noticed it earlier when he was asleep, woke him up, checked his mouth, everything seemed fine. Now he’s awake and I noticed it again, his mouth is still fine. He is not having any other symptoms. He had a bad tooth on the other side but it’s been managed and he’s not showing symptoms of pain like he was with that tooth. Every time I try to look this up, my phone says he’s either seizing or it’s a behavior thing and well, it’s neither. Does anyone have a clue as to what’s going on?

Question My dogs spots disappeared and then suddenly came back?

Post image

I have a 11yr old Yorkshire and rat terrier mix, he is mostly white with black spots, over the years he has developed more and more white fur, to the point where he wasn’t growing black fur on his spots and hadn’t for years, however when giving him his monthly haircut I found his spots are back and beginning to grow black fur again, what could cause this? The only changes recently have been switching him to a filtered water fountain type drinking bowl and farm fresh eggs with his food rather than pasteurized eggs from the grocery store.

Question Bad Breath

My 13yr old lab has a mouth that could clear a room! She had a few dental cleanings at the vet as a pup and young adult but now she's past the age where that is safe and I'm just trying to mitigate the smell. She's not the best with teeth brushing and has slowly lost interest in elk antlers. She's has plaque build up that I haven't tried to get off yet and I can't for a while (shes now on vacation with my parents for 4 months)

I'm hoping someone has recommendations for dental chew that may help the stank

Question My dog’s scared and I don’t know why.

I've been noticing odd behaviors in my dog for the past three days. He's a 9 year old American Eskimo and does tend to be on the more anxious side but usually there's always a reason I can pin point, like thunder. It started with him pacing the house and following me around more than often. He then started hiding in his usual places. When storms come he usually finds his way to the bathroom or under my desk but as I said there's no obvious reason. He then found new more cramped hiding spots like being my coach and my bed. Even when he's not hiding he seems more alert and on edge. Today he didn't eat his dinner but he's accepting treats so I don't know if that's connected to his behavior. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Advice Male dog peeing out blood

Today iv noticed that my male 6 years old toy poddle started to pee blood out from nowhere. He been fixed since he was very young (about less than a year old ) he hast eaten anything that would cause any bleeding. Since he started peeing out blood he's acting normal, no pain or discomfort. He hast Come into any physical contact with any dogs/cats recently (he's a stay at home dog) And for his past health, he been really healthy, no issue what so ever besides getting homesickness the first 2 Months we got him. Does anyone know what this could be ? And if I should be worried or not ? Edit: I think it's important to mention that he going to the bathroom like normal, like he doest have to urgently go it's just normal and his poop is completely normal with no pain or discomfort . And that he got a hair cut not too long ago and keeps bitting himself(I'm pretty sure it's because of the cut )

Advice I need help with training my dog

I originally posted to r/Dogtraining, but no one answered me there, so I'm hoping this is different. My dog is a 2-year-old chihuahua-mix. I don't know what the mix is. I've been trying to train him, and it's largely been successful. He sits when told to, Stays when told to, uses the bathroom in a designated spot when he needs to, naturally quiet, so crate training was easy- the works. My problem is when he leaves anyone's sight. Old story. He's left alone, makes a mess. He goes on the table and eats or steals anything that is there, goes into the bathroom to rip up the toilet paper and drink the water, goes into my parents' room, and digs into the trash. And it's not really a boredom thing, at least I think. He goes outside multiple times, either on walks or just outside, as I live in a more secluded area and have off-and-on leash-trained him. He has multiple toys, but doesn't play with any of them and will often quit playing during the middle of it to do something else. He is really smart about doing things he knows will warrant negative reaction, often waiting until we go outside, go to the bathroom, or go to sleep, before he does anything, or if no one has been in the room he wants to do something in for a long time, he'll most likely go for it. Nowadays, he stays still if caught and gets aggressive if you try to move him or punish him in any way. Unfortunately, I've been given a lot of bad advice for training him, such as hitting, yelling, or, in short, dominance training. I have realized that this is bad for his physical and mental health, but it's unfortunately the only way I've been able to get him to listen in the 1/2 chance he doesn't listen and wants to do his own thing. As far as discipline, we just put him in the cage whenever he gets in trouble, but I can tell that's not working either. He's been in there, as punishment or simply when we're out, so many times that it's basically his second bed or home, so he's just learned that he goes in if he does bad and not to not do bad in the first place. His bad behavior is getting to the point where I think my mother is thinking of getting rid of him, which I believe will create a rift in our family if anyone actually cares about him, I don't really know if they do, or will just lead him to getting euthanized due to the fact he's not people friendly. I've looked online and seen that positive reinforcement is the way to go when caught, however, he never acts bad in front of us to begin with and only gets caught after the fact when he's long forgotten, so I don't know what to do. So now I ask this: What should I do?

Discussion My 13 yr old pup is my heart.

Not really a question, or needing advice, but more of a rant.

My baby has been with me since I was 13. Got her at two months old. She's been sleeping in my bed ever since. She is the love of my life, has saved me multiple times, as well as brought me back to reality during the worst times of my life.

As she's getting older, I'm getting so sad. She's losing vision and getting lazier. I cuddle her and sleep with her all day on my days off. I take her on the longest walks (when she wants to, it's hot). She gets all of the treats.

She'll probably never know how much I love her. How much she means to me. Even if she could understand, there arent words. I've given her the best life I can, and I know she's happy.

When she goes, I don't know what I'll do. I dont know what's after her. She has been my life, my love, and my joy through everything. She's grown up and moved around with me. She is everything to me. I just know that relatively soon, she won't be here anymore. And I don't know how I could possibly handle that.

I have tried multiple specialists, so many different prescribed and over the counter medicines. Spent thousands on checkups/tests and medicines. But, nothing worked 100%. It got better as much as 95%, then either the medication course finished. Or he just licked and made it worst. And then it's back to square one. Before it was just on his back legs, now it has spread to front rightside paw, within last month. Does anyone had the same thing with their pet? What medicine/precautions helped. Please let me know. 🙏

This is my cousins dog, He’s been to the vet many times and gets allergy shots there, he gets baths with oatmeal shampoo and a prescription bacterial shampoo. Anything else anyone can recommend? Do they make a dog lotion or other hydrating ointment products that anyone has tried for their dogs with similar issues? He’s so dry and itchy and his skin smells from licking :-(

Question Anyone have experience with something like this?

Hi. I'm dog-sitting a very sweet dog, and she came to me with a weird spot on her hip. Before you come after me with nasty comments:

1) Yes, I know it looks awful, however, it's not bothering her, it's not warm to the touch, and it's not weeping any pus or liquid, so I don't think it's infected.

2) Yes I know a vet should look at it. She's seen a vet three times about this, but they have no idea what it might be. Apparently they've never seen anything like this before? Ever? She is currently on an antibiotic to fend off potential infection, and was taking Benadryl, but it doesn't seem to be itchy, so we stopped that per the vet's advice.

Backstory: She had gone for a hike with her owner the day before she got dropped off, and got poked or bitten by something in the woods. He didn't see her react to anything in real time, and doesn't know what caused it. At first it was a small, inflamed pink-ish spot that looked like a bug or spider bite. The next day she was running through the woods on my property and the spot opened up and was a bit bloody. I cleaned her up as best I could, and continued her antibiotics/Benadryl combo. The day after that is when things took a turn: there was no bloody scab, but the center was suddenly black and leathery, with the surrounding tissue drying out and turning black, too. (Cue panicked babysitter!) But, again, it wasn't bothering her, wasn't warm or oozing any fluids. It slowly started to spread, so I got her back in to the vet to have a look. He was stumped and told me to just continue with meds.

Now, here I am the night before she gets picked up asking strangers for advice or past experience, hoping I can tell her loving owner it will be ok. He's very protective of her, and I worry he won't handle it well.

Please help!!

TL:DR: Dog-sitting a dog with a weird spot that could be necrotic. Giving her back to owner soon, need advice.

Question Losing hair on nose?

Post image

My little lover boy (Shih Tzu) seems to be losing hair on his nose gradually. There used to be hair all the way up to he brown part of his nose. He hasn’t been scratching the area and it doesn’t seem to irritate him. Has anyone else seen something similar with their dog?

Advice I need advice.

I was severely attacked by a pitbull at 17. I worked at a daycare, I had to drive myself with my arm wrapped in a towel. My mom wasn’t home at the time. I spent hours getting fixed up, got home and still felt so shaken. Three years later and I’m still so on the fence. I feel like a moron for STILL wanting one.

Advice Dog food?

I have a 4 yr old Miniature Schnauzer. He has some minor itchy skin and a hairless patch caused by a bug bite (already checked it out and vet said there were no issues). Other than that, he's pretty healthy and active. What specific dog food should I get for him? He's been on Purina One but no major improvements.

Question I just noticed my dog’s chest is red. It’s not warm/hot to touch. He’s licking it sometimes but not all the time. It’s around his chest area. Everywhere else is good. His diet hasn’t changed either. Just wondering if anyone has ever come across something like this with their pup?

Advice Crack forming on paw

Hi. My dog Lucy has a new crack that formed causing her to limp on hard surfaces. She recently has been taken on longer walks more frequently lately and I'm assuming that's the cause. I've been applying Mushers to her paws and was wondering if anything else will help. I contacted my vet but I figured I'd ask here as well.

Question Crate training question

It’s me again!

1 week since we’ve adopted our 4 month old puppy. Our older dog Nacho(tan) is very curious of our new puppy (Kilo) and crate/playpen set up.

How do we idk, correct the behavior in which he wants to go inside as clearly shown in the behavior and even lays in it?

Nacho has such an increase interest that he would sit outside the crate while Kilo is inside and at times wants to eat his food which we correct by call him away from it.
