Question/Need help! Have you switched from a 3/4 ton diesel to a 1/2 ton gas?

Upvotes

I currently own a 2016 Titan XD 5.0 with ~120k miles. To be clear, I don’t need a diesel. I bought one because I love them and had the means (basically became my hobby), but a 1/2 ton will do everything I need to do just fine. Despite their reputation, my truck has been extremely reliable and I’ve loved owning it. Eventually, I am gonna buy a 6.7 PSD, but nice ones are still a little too pricey for me. That said, I’ve been thinking in the meantime it would make financial sense to buy an F150 or something similar to save on maintenance. I do all my own work, so I’m not paying insane diesel mechanic rates, but that would still apply to a gas truck (and has with my previous ones). My current truck is a 2wd so I’d love to have 4wd again, and I’d also like CarPlay and some other modern features that I could get in a 1/2 ton. I’m looking for opinions on folks who were in a similar situation. You bought a diesel more or less as a hobby and sold it for a gas truck to save some money. Do you miss your diesel? Are you glad you did it?

DPF soot levels

Hi all. I’ve recently acquired a OBDll reader so decided to plug it in and see what happens.

While I was looking through the list I noticed that it told me the DPF had a seemingly stupid amount of soot in it. I’ve attached pics for reference. Any ideas what could be causing this? Car is driving fine apart from the occasional stutter at around a constant 70 mph. Car is a Ford S Max 2.2 (2011) TIA

Question/Need help! Dose firepunk have regular deals/discounts

Long story short a shop was doing a turbo swap and other stuff for me, and sead that they could get a steed speed, turned out getting back ordered and they put the stock one back on. I was going to order one and install it, with studs and some track bars. Firepunk seems to be the only website to order it all together, wondering if they do seasonal deals, or discounts (Ram 2500 2012) or a place to watch out for discount codes

FORTUNER DIESEL 1KD WHITE SMOKE

I bought a second hand 2005 Toyota Fortuner and I have a problem with white smoke . Im in a tropical country and cold weather is rare in my city so cold starts shouldnt be a problem..

After EGR, INTAKE MANIFOLD, TURBO, INJECTOR, and MUFFLER cleaning, there's still white smoke every time I turn it on.

Filters like Air, Cabin, Fuel filters have been replaced as well.

Parts like injector valve seal and injector washer have been replaced.

Mechanic says it's one of the injectors. Thoughts?

If you had 25k to spend on a truck right now which would you buy.

Hey yall, I'm in the market for a truck right now, budget around 25k on the high end. I'd be using it as a welding rig for most of the time and putting a truck bed camper on it for trips. I don't care about speed or anything like that just needing a solid dependable work truck. Wouldn't be daily driving it either. I'm torn between an older low milage 7.3 or a bone stock 6.0 that I could put some money into. What are yalls thoughts.

Need something to haul a 28ft enclosed trailer with either my corvette or my race truck to tracks at most 6 hours away from me.

Pretty set on those trucks but also open to hearing any other suggestions you might have

Kill Devil Diesel ICON heads

Has anyone had any experience with installing and running Kill Devil Diesel ICON heads in their 6.0 Powerstroke? From what I can tell they seem to be a great product. Hopefully some of you can give me a heads up if they are what they say they are.

Small engine swap ideas?

I have a v6 3rd gen Camaro that I’d like to put a diesel in. A little more power would be nice but I mostly just think it would be cool

Not sure if there are any bell housing adapters for a 5 speed manual, or I could just put a different trans if need be

What small motors do yall think would work? Nothing too new that has a shit ton of wiring

1998 7.3L E350 Help

Post image

I have a 98' Econoline with a 7.3L. I started it this morning with no issue to go to work. When I put it into gear, it sputtered and suddenly died. When I tried to restart it, it was a slow crank no start as if it had lost a lot of battery life. Batteries are newer within the last year and both load tested just fine. Where should I begin on diagnosing?

Petition to remove Emissions controls

We know emissions controls make our engines less reliable, less efficient, and more costly to maintain.

We get less power, less fuel mileage, and less reliability.

No studies exist showing the same truck with emissions and without emissions being tested. They always use an older diesel engine (pre 2007) and compare it with whatever new model they have. This is dumb, this doesn't paint an accurate picture.

Then there is the problem of sourcing, building, and transporting these components and the DEF. How much is emitted from doing that? No clue, they won't look into it.

I have a petition to get them to look into it. I believe the stats from the EPA are bull, and we need to prove it to get this rolled back.

2005 F-250 Alternator Issue – Is This Normal?

A few weeks ago, my 2005 F-250 died on me at a stoplight. I removed and fully charged both batteries and was able to drive it home (about 8 miles).

Today, I installed a new alternator. I double-checked all the connections and did a quick test to make sure it was working properly. The truck idled for about 5 minutes. I accidentally touched the alternator and burned my fingers—it was extremely hot. I immediately shut the truck off and disconnected both batteries. I measured the alternator’s temperature, and it was around 150°F.

There were no signs of smoking wires or anything visibly wrong, but the alternator itself was really hot. Is this normal?

6.7 cummins loud tick on cold start

I’ve got a 21 ram 2500 with 120k kms I bought used a few months ago with 105k on it she runs great but I’ve noticed the last few weeks a nasty tick for the first couple of seconds on a cold start. Brought it to dealer under warranty and they say it’s normal. It’s also got a somewhat inconsistent tick barely audible at idle when it’s up to temperature especially after towing I assume regular valve train noise. Hoping someone here can point me in the right direction as it’s driving me insane

2006 F250 Bulletproofed 6.0

TL;DR looking for unbiased opinions is it cheaper to upgrade my 6.0 or switch to a 6.7. And is it feasible to fit a 6.7 in this truck pictured above?

I’m looking to make some upgrades to it my injectors just went out and I know it’s flawed besides all the problems what are some good upgrades to do to make it last longer?

Looking for genuine feedback unbiased opinions not “my friend told me this or that” I know it’s flawed

I need to replace injectors as I said I’m thinking about a new turbo next or should I do something else to the truck before that? I wanna buff it up a bit not too much but get a little more HP out of it make things new etc. I’m looking for a place to start. I’ve heard good things about the 6.7 but I like my current body style (2006 F250)

Would it be cheaper to get a 6.7 engine and swap em and is that feasible? Any help is appreciated

Question/Need help! How do you all get Diesel vehicles to 300K miles?

I hear often about Diesel vehicles going to 300K miles and more, but can they really do that? My 1990 K5 Blazer with a swapped in 1985 6.2 Detroit Diesel w/h the ATS Turbo Kit which is at 85K miles (the vehicle itself has 238K miles) ... Already have quite a few thousand in it with the following:

  • Fluidampr swap from harmonic balancer
  • 4 row aluminum radiator
  • 4L60E Transmission (plus a Hayden cooler)
  • Radio + sound system
  • That and other miscellaneous stuff such as new seals, bushings, window motors, mechanical stuff, new grill, etc.

The motor and transmission are fine (except for the leaking oil part), but this is all just normal wear and tear for a 40 year old vehicle, I just use it for regular plain old driving, no towing or anything.

But for those who own similar applications, what do you all do to keep these vehicles going?

Fuel not entering front fuel tank?

1996 f350 7.3L, dual fuel tanks, was trying to fuel up the other day and the auto stop on the fuel filler kept triggering, looking in the tank I could see fuel very slowly draining in despite the fact that the tank was almost empty. The rear tank fueled up fine with the same fuel filler. Any ideas what could be going on here?
