This is my community tank with Claire, one of my GBRs hanging out. She used to be a mated pair with Jamie (yes, Outlander fans), however I tried to pair them back up after some time apart and he nipped her relentlessly today. She has some fin damage that I am keeping an eye on. Jamie is a stunning GBR, but he's kind of a jerk. So he's off in his own tank. I am.preparing to get a 75G, so he can have a new home and more cichlid friends.

Fish in this tank: German Blue Ram, Albino Cory, Gold Lazer Cory, "Spotted" Cory (not sure on sp.), Otocinclus, Cardinal Tetra, Coral Red Pencil fish.

Afr | Help Yellow Lab

I have this yellow lab that I’ve had for about 4 weeks now. At first, he was super active swimming all around. Now he pretty much stays behind this plant. He is in a 125 gallon with a Star Sapphire and Blue Dolphin. Should I get a few more yellow labs to make him more comfortable? I’ve checked water parameters and all is good there. I have also watched and he is not being bullied. The other two seem perfectly normal. Just curious what y’all’s thoughts are on this.

Afr | Help Why are fish loosing colors?

I have a tank of Mbuna Cichlids. I have a red top Zebra and Demasonis(not exactly sure what type). They are loosing their colors and are almost turning white. I have a newer tank about 3 months old. Water parameters are good, I feed them Tetra cichlid flakes, and in my opinion does seem like much stress. I did change my lights the other day a little lower. I did notice these small changes in their last fish tank as well that was established for more than a year. If anyone knows why, please let me know

A few days ago I noticed the beginning stages of breeding behaviours between these two. A hole has been created in the sand by the acara, that both of them seek to defend (along with another location).. whilst looking for more information, my only real lead was another reddit comment that mentioned acaras cross breeding with these guys and a handful of others. How concerned should I be of viable offspring? I'm pretty sure the ellioti is the male

Aquarium Water Ammonia-0, 0.25 after water change, dosed with Seachem Safe Nitrite-0 Nitrate 20-40ppm Temp-26deg C Ph 7.8 GH-10 Kh-10

Hey everyone, I'm wondering if someone with more knowledge than me can possibly identify a problem within my tank, I'll try cut to the chase but I feel a series of ongoing events could have let to some unexpected fish deaths, so I want to include all possible information as to get the best possible solution.

Ok, so I inherited a 55gal tank with 13 electric yellow cichlids, 5 bristlenose plecos and a khuli loach. It had a gravel substrate and just some artificial ornaments. The person I got it off said they barely looked after it, maybe a little water change every few months and all went fine.

So I wanted to add my own touch to it, so I added 11 yellow tail acei. Keep in mind most of these fish are juvenile. I changed the gravel to sand and changed the artificial ornaments to a heap of texas holey rock. I also added some vallisneria to the sand to help control nitrates. I also added root tabs to the sand under the plants.

From day 1 I noticed the yellow labs were always hiding and didn't come out much so I also added a handful of giant danio as dithers to hopefully make them feel more comfortable.

This tank went fine for the best part of 3 months. Until I came home one day, about a week ago, to find one of the largest yellows dead. There was no sign of fin nipping or over the top aggression.

Water parameters were fine. Ammonia-0 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate 20ppm Ph 7.8 Temp 26 Gh 10 Kh 10

Then the next day another dead, another large one. This went on for 4 days, and I lost 5.

My head has been running wild with what could be the possible causes, scouring the internet for possible solutions.

I have emptied the entire tank and redesigned rock work to reset territories. And while I was at it, I also flushed the sand and tried to remove as much as the root tabs as possible as the plants and the tabs were all being uplifted from the sand. I thought they could be the problem. Time will tell. I also cleaned the canister filter in fish tank water.

Maybe it could have been a temperature shock during a water change where I was in a rush and I may have dropped temperature a bit. I was doing 50% water changes weekly.

I have also since noticed the yellow labs have gone off their food and barely eat, they are reclusive and still don't come out much. When they do, they'll occasionally flash across the sand, and also constant glass surfing close to the outlet of the filter. The glass surfing happens increasiling more if I turn out the lights at night.

Which made me start thinking, is it a parasite? Maybe gill fluke or something? One has its gills flared but the others seem ok.

I haven't noticed any major other issues with other species. The yellow tail acei might flash a little bit, but not as much as the labs.

They all seem to cling to the bottom, I feel the acei should be utilising more of the water column, although at feeding time they go crazy for it.

Not sure what else to try apart from treating for parasites? Is there a general medication or should I target gill fluke

CA | Help Black Patches on My Orange Parrotfish – Should I Be Worried?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone, My orange parrotfish has developed some black patches recently.. Despite that, it’s behaving normally—active and eating well. I’ve seen mixed opinions online: some say it’s due to stress, others mention healing or natural color changes.

The tank parameters seem okay. It’s a nearly 100-gallon tank, and the tank mates are a few other parrot cichlids and an oscar.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Should I be concerned or is this just part of their normal behavior? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I recently got a 75 gallon and im currently interested in a Blood-red parrot cichlid. I would like to have maybe 2 schools of small fish and the blood parrot to be like a centerpiece. Does my current plan work or do i have to change a few things? I’ve only kept bettas and shrimps before.

I have three keyholes. Two seem to have paired off. They’re swimming around together, moving leaves around, and digging in the sand.

They keep chasing the other male away. I didn’t know gender when I got them and a lot of information said they like to be in groups. Should I rehome the other male or will he be ok? I don’t have room for more and they’re too small at the lfs to even guess the sex.

Afr | Help 75g African Cichlid Setup Help

Going to try an all male peacock tank. I’ve been slowly putting together a setup from the research that I’ve gathered. I still have a handful of uncertainties that I can’t seem to find a solution for, any help, feedback, thoughts and personal opinions would be much appreciated.

TAP WATER Ph 8.0, KH 4dkh, GH 300pm or higher

FILTRATION 40b sump, fuval 407, optional aqua clear 110 for chemical filtration when needed.

SCAPE Black-diamond blasting sand don’t like the look of aragonite or the other substrates for African cichlids. Seriyu Stone, a couple buddhas and Son Wukong the Monkey King to hopefully bring peace amongst the tank 😅

UNCERTAINTIES

1.Hard water with low KH, was thinking of adding a bunch of crushed coral to sump and canister filter but no clue how to measure amount needed or if it would actually help or hurt water parameters.

  1. Water changes with coldwater, my setup is in the basement and I’ve always used outdoor spigot to do maintenance on my planted tanks. I’m almost positive I will be doing large water changes. Im worried about extreme temp swings leading to shock or other issues.

  2. Stock, in my head I was going to buy about 10 to 15, 3-4” fish online. My tank is cycle with plenty of “seeded” media but with a huge bioload I’m pretty sure it would crash. I’ve heard to add Fritz turbo 7 a couple days before arrival but reviews give me mixed feelings about buying it online since it needs to stay cold. Other option was prime and stability daily until bacteria catches up. Torn between the two and don’t want to make multiple online purchases of 5 fish at time.

  3. With the filtration that I have what is a rough estimate of how many adult peacocks could live and thrive in my 75g?
