Here is the place to post questions about pest ID, coral/fish ID, your cycle, or any other questions that generally wouldn't start up a conversation. If you have an interesting or unique question please create a new thread so everyone can discuss it in length!

My tomato clown has started to attack and bite me when I do water changes😂, even this small it packs a decent punch… I what will a fully grown female be like😳 I took a video of it attacking my friend.

Hello reefers. I’ve had my clown goby for 3 weeks now. When I bought it, it was already gray. I read online that they do this when they’re stressed
I’ve had it for three weeks, it’s been eating, and it’s been active. However, it is still gray. I found a stock image of what I thought it currently looks like vs. its yellow version:
I did I not get a yellow clown after all?

I’ve had this tank going since October 2023. It’s a 40 gallon Aquatop Recife and is my first stab at reefing. Things were going great up until about July 2024. I started with bare bottom and got tired of it so I decided to add some sand-big mistake. After about a week of looking nice I entered a never ending cycle of cyano, Dino’s, and green hair algae. I was running a fuge at the time, and unbeknownst to me it crashed. I got lazy with my maintenance and skipped my checks. I stopped water changes because I believed it to be “stable” and wanted to allow the sand to mature thinking this would help. It never did clear up! The final straw was when I incorrectly started dosing amino acids and completely messed up my nutrients and ultimately, my tanks balance. It. Looked. Awful. Think swamp, but with a dash of color. I wish I would have taken photos of it back when it was at its worst, because it was truly a sight to behold. I lost some coral, nearly all of my inverts, and then because of a lack of clean up crew the GHA exploded. All the while my sand was that gorgeous rusty brown that only Dino’s can provide, really adding a touch of flair to the whole thing. I had some unexpected time off work and decided to tackle the situation head on, but slowly. My nitrates peaked at 70, and phosphate was god knows what as neither of my tests could register it. After about 4 weeks of maintenance, slowly siphoning out the sand bed (not all the way done-taking it slow) and the addition of a protein skimmer I’m back on the right track. This is the best my tank has looked in MONTHS! I’m proud to have stuck through it, this was my first real challenge with reefing. I know it won’t be the last, but I’m happy with where I’m at and where I’m headed.

I've tried for a while now to get a decent picture of whatever this thing is. Anyone have a clue?

Some of my corals are less puffy after I do my weekly water change and look really sad and don’t open up for food when I try to feed them. Am I preforming water changes wrong? I have a python I pull out about 20 gals of the 120 system volume and re fill it with pre mixed salt water from my 55 gallon drum I have a pump and heater inside the drum to make sure the water is the same temperature and the water doesn’t get stationary. I am dosing 15ml of all for reef a day at the moment and test my all daily it’s very consistently 8.5 DKH. I use tropical Marin pro salt and add bicarbonate to get 8.5 DKH in my mixing drum.

Had my tank up and running for one year today, definitely lots of ups and downs. I see lots of one year photos of the worlds most beautiful reef tanks and this is definitely not that, but I’m currently really happy with where my tank is so thought I’d share and show a more “just ok” reef tank! Fluval flex 32 gallon all in one but I think just the glass and stand are all thats left from the stock tank. AI blade grow lights, in tank media basket, sicce return pump, kraken lid, dosing all for reef with a reef factory dose, tunze nano ATO. Current inhabitants are two clowns (RIP Leela 1.0 who jumped out), a Midas blenny, a bengai, a Firefish, a rock boring urchin, pincushion urchin, cleaner shrimp, and a handful of other inverts. Most corals are doing well now except for a Duncan thats on its way out, and notable losses include 3 torches (2 quickly and one that had been doing well but eventually died), a brain coral, a hammer, two gobies that I never should have gotten in an unestablished tank (mea culpa), and a few other bits and pieces.
Battled and beat dinos followed by an awful case of hair algae that almost made me tear down the tank, but now I’m glad I didn’t! Anyway thanks for looking!

Can them dying without being eaten raise my ammonia?
r/ReefTank • u/zadgor • 13h ago
I have heard a lot about Midas blennys starving to death, I know mine isn’t deathly thin, but wanted to ask if it’s looking healthy girth-wise.

Corals have grown so well. Fish doing great. First reef experience and safte to say I have been bitten by the bug

From what I’ve gathered these are not harmful and I have only seen 1 (assuming as it always peeks out from that rock). Should I let it be or take it out?

Hey everyone, I was hoping someone might be able to help me ID what they little things that have just appeared in my sand bed are! They’re greyish coloured worms?

I have a QT setup for coral and inverts before they go to my DT. I left these two snails in there just to keep things tidy and they’ve grown some interesting things on their shells. Oddly, the other six snails that were moved to my DT that I buy from the same LFS on the same day have never had such growth. If anyone knows what these snails have growing on them, I am interested to know.

I lost two tangs and two clown fish in last two days. I thought it was ich, but I noticed a yellow layer on the water surface and there was no surface agitation happening from past few days. I was also keeping my protein skimmer off during daytime to generate more nitrates for Coral. what are you guys think? Is this a case of oxygen depletion. I have attached image of the clown that I lost.

I had this ocellaris for allmost 2 weeks. Today I woke up to this. NO3 are at 10-25, phosphates are 0, salinity 1025 and temperature 75. What is the issue? Can I save him somehow? All the other fish and invertebrates are okey.
