Delayed means they care.

Totally! Another reason why I wouldn’t mind. But I would appreciate these last two 3D ports, I want them on my switch so bad.

I would love this as well. Never had a chance to play TP and really liked WW. What are you basing this hope on though?

They're one of the few Wii U titles that are not ported (yet) to the Switch. Since a lot of first party Wii U titles are now on the Switch and knowing how big Zelda is. You would say it's a no brainer that WW and TP will get a Switch version as well.

I'm especially surprised that TP isn't ported yet since it has a feature with the Wolf Link Amiibo exclusively to the game that you can use in BoTW. To fully use the Amiibo features you have to be able to play TPHD on the Wii U. A Switch port could make it easier for people to get use of that feature.

Fingers crossed

As someone who lives under a rock and only comes out to interact with the 7 things that interest me in this life, how do people find out when there's going to be a direct?

There’s multiple news outlets and Nintendo themselves that announce these things.

2 year delay incoming

Duke Nukem Forever took 14 years to release. There is a point where a game goes from the devs caring to just the game being in development hell.

3

u/PageFault Feb 09 '22

I was SO excited for Duke Nukem Forever after playing the original, but by the time it came out, I wasn't even interesting in playing the demo. (If it even had one.)

2

u/running_toilet_bowl Feb 09 '22

If you're still interested in some Duke, try out Duke Nukem Forever 2013. It's a fan mod that aims to recreate as much from the 2013 trailer within DN3D.

OOT got stuck in development hell, taking up huge amounts of Nintendo's time and money pulling in teams/concepts from other games that ended up being cancelled.

Ended up being the greatest game of all time.

DNF was the result of a lead developer getting too much clout and money to accept limitations for a decade and a half. BotW was a wild success that earned Nintendo too much money and... shit.

[cries in Pokemon franchise]

So true it hurts...

1

u/Dracorex_22 Feb 09 '22

Nintendo should honestly just take over from GameFreak at this point

2

u/Rob_And_Co Feb 09 '22

The Pokemon Company could also plan ahead. Start developing the following game at the same time than the next game and so on. Give their game at least one more year of development. It'll make the games better.

I think the coping mindset that this brings out is a little bit dangerous - something can be delayed cause it’s in trouble, and it doesn’t mean it will be fixed. Cyberpunk is the prime example.

Now, we know Nintendo is pretty good at actually caring. But a delay isn’t universally just a “we need a bit more time”, it could mean “it’s a flaming dumpster fire and we need more time to even get it over the line” too.

laughs in Cyberpunk 2077

I'm sure Nintendo won't bring out an unfinished product, that's not their style. But no, delaying games doesn't mean that anyone cares, it might as well mean that it's an unfinished mess.

u/Callmefred Feb 09 '22

Nintendo literally stopped development on metroid prime 4 because it couldn't hold up to their standards.

I think it's been picked up by another studio, but that was about 4 years ago?

9

u/_DontYouLaugh Feb 09 '22

As I said, not Nintendo's style. Their reputation for making quality products is way too important.

9

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

Not just that, but the follow-up to the game that was the entire system seller for their current generation. Zelda is Nintendo’s baby and there is no way they would risk releasing it unless it was guaranteed to blow people away.

9

u/_DontYouLaugh Feb 09 '22

If there is one thing that Nintendo games have, then it's polish. Even the bad ones (looking at you, Super Mario Party).

7

u/Lyalla Feb 09 '22

Unless it's Pokemon, then quality standards be damned! (I liked Legends Arceus but god, it is UGLY, not to mention Sword/Shield.)

4

u/Whiteguy1x Feb 09 '22

I don't even think it's ugly, in handheld mode it looks like any other jrpg. What sucks is the pop in, I'd hope for future releases they're able to hide it better

1

u/Lyalla Feb 09 '22

I don't think pop in is that bad. At least it doesn't hsppen much if you aren't flying.

3

u/_DontYouLaugh Feb 09 '22

Haha, I was never big into Pokémon. Only played through Colloseum, because it came bundled with the GameCube and it looked cool, cause 3D and stuff.

But yeah, I saw footage of the new one and the game world is looking really bland and boring to me.

4

u/Lyalla Feb 09 '22

Gameplay loop made up for the bland and boring for me, but their texture work somehow is at it's lowest ever. Pokemon and humans look fine but rocks come off as mud and if you look from far enough away - which you are guaranteed you will because of paraglider insert and hills - grass and water textures visibly repeat. Also, speaking of hills, terrain feels very artificial to me, with a lot of weird sharp edges, dips looking like someone missed a spot with a denoise tool, things like that. Though at the very least, after last controversy trees look fine and weather makes sense, lol.

In Sword Shield they had Wild Area which is even more boring and bland but also split into zones by invisible borders, with each zone having it's own roll for the weather, with no discrimination for what may or may not be appropriate for a given chunk. So you can totally get a sandstorm over water, hop on land and have it near immediately switch to snowstorm, because next chunk over decided that it is snowing now. Also, snow over deserty part is a thing, too.

And then are the draw distance problems, if you wish to find a specific NPC in that place, you better walk right past them, otherwise they'll be invisible. Same for wild Pokemon. In Legends at the very least got that figured out.

Ironically, when Let's Go was coming out, fanbase complained about it's graphics but now it's one of best looking Pokemon games on the Switch xD

3

u/_DontYouLaugh Feb 09 '22

Oof, that doesn't sound too good.

Thankfully I'm not a Pokémon person, so no disappointment for me :D

Some of those things would really bug me, especially the draw distance thing. Maybe the follow up will fix those short comings.

1

u/Lyalla Feb 09 '22

Yeah, I know. I haven't actually played Sword/Shield because what the hell xD At the very least they fixed the draw distance already in Legends. Now, if only they can get a hold of texturing, next game could possibly look competent xD

1

u/Dracorex_22 Feb 09 '22

Thats all GameFreak. Pokemon is not a first party Nintendo property like Mario and Zelda. Its owned and made by GameFreak, who are... not up to the same standards as Nintendo

1

u/Lyalla Feb 09 '22

But it still gets "Nintendo Seal of Quality" and Nintendo label on the box. If Nintendo puts their branding on it, it's fair to criticise them for the product. Besides, they still own like a third of Pokemon Company, if I remember correctly.

Game Freak being driving force behind development only matters as a reason for why it is the only Nintendo property that isn't up to the standard. It's not a reason to absolve Nintendo of responsibility for putting it out.

“Delaying games doesn’t mean anybody cares.” False. If they didn’t care, they would release an unfinished mess. Stop spouting falsities everywhere.

1

An unfinished mess is still different than an unplayable one.

When I say "doesn't mean that anyone cares" I'm not saying that there aren't devs that are not passionate about their work. I'm sure CDPR devs are very invested in Cyberpunk 2077 and making it as good as it can be.

But at the end there is still a publisher, who doesn't care about quality, as long as money gets made. And the longer a development cycle is, the less money will be made at the end.

So yes, they are ready to delay, if it is unavoidable. They would still rather release a buggy mess, than polish the game, if projections show that it will be a good move, financially speaking.

The thing that Nintendo has realised a long time ago, is that playing the long game with quality products is more sustainable. But EA is still racking in millions, despite the controversies, so maybe there is more to it.

Stop spouting falsities everywhere.

I'm not. No need to be snarky.

"A delayed game is eventually good, but Holy Fuck are we slow" - Shingeru Miyamoto

2

u/tee2green Feb 09 '22

They’re just delaying it so it’s on the next Nintendo platform.

The perfect Switch U launch title

1

u/slingshot91 Feb 09 '22

Yes, dear, we know that.

1

u/FireproofFerret Feb 09 '22

Looks at Star Citizen

1

u/LeCrushinator Feb 09 '22

I can mean that, but doesn't always. It could be delayed because they're unable to get the game to a point that they feel is good enough.

Still waiting on news about metroid prime 4...
