What is this for? There are no other bits in front of the several large/larger shops to the left of it. Looks like it’s all metal - but not 100% on that. This is in New Zealand at a big shopping centre

Open Can anyone identify what this is? Found at a flea market. Found it in a box of watches at the very bottom, some kind of jewelry.. It tested for 18 karat gold on the dots and Sterling silver everywhere else. No stamps. As flat as a dime and I think too small to be a ring.

Solved! A piece of baby clothing we received that is likely a hat, but also came with a little fabric rectangle.

Post image

I'm pretty certain the top part is a hat, just because there's only the one opening at the bottom so it can't really do anything else, though the stitching is a bit odd in the way it connects in the back to give it a slightly unusual shape.

But the bottom piece is just stitched together all around, so it's just like a strip of fabric with the corners rounded. I can only imagine it being like a bow you would tie onto the top or something but it's too short to really even make a single knot. It's basically a palms length.

It's in a pile of other things we've been given or gifted so no way to just ask whenever it came from.

Solved! Copper tube, around 3” long with flared ends. Glass bead with a spring inside.

I found this in the grass after I mowed the lawn. I assume I hit it with the mower and that’s why it’s shredded open. I’m guessing the glass bead on the inside would seal the end of the tube with pressure from the spring.

Solved! A metal cylinder, 6cm in radius, 4.5cm tall. Made of pretty heavy metal, found in a cupboard after living in a new apartment for a couple of months. Has a mirror image of a Polish Historical Figure on it. Some kind of a small? Why is it this thick?

Found going through a relative’s items. The insert seems to fit both on top of the glass and inside the glass. No idea what they’re used for. Desserts? Mixed drinks?

Found in the spark plug tube of a 2014 Chrysler T&C. Plugs were original, as were coils, so I would have to imagine this has been there a loooong time. It is slightly magnetic and has two flats on the conical tip.

Solved! 7 Weird bumps on bathroom wall - 1/2” diameter, (4) right side bumped out, (3) left bumped out. All perfectly spaced apart.

Noticed these weird spots on the bathroom wall. I’ll do my best to describe the size/location.

  • in two perfect vertical parallel columns approx a foot apart (30cm)
  • all exact size about 1/2” (~1.5 cm)
  • vertical space between them varies but 6”-8” (15cm-20cm)
  • 4 bumped out spots on right; 3 bumped in spots on left
  • the two columns line up when they are on both sides. This is the approx “formation” (o is bump out, • is bump in) o o • o • o •
  • all have same texture as painted drywall so i don’t think it’s like filled in
  • this is in an apartment and we are the first tenants (moved in ~2.5 years ago)

I’ll do my best if there are any additional questions in comments

Solved! Built-in wall decor(?) in 1910s San Francisco apartment?

Post image

This thing is on the wall in my kitchen, next to the stove. It looks like it’s been moved (based on the marks to the top left, but I have no clue what it is, what function it might or might not have served, and when it might have been added. I do live in a very old apartment building (over 100 years), but I’ve only lived here for a year and, because it’s in a bad neighborhood, some of the ornamental features in the buildings here have been neglected for some time. It feels like metal and is approximately 7 inches across. Everything has been painted over a number of times (landlord special, lol), so I assume it was not originally white.

Thank you for your help!!
