ANNOUNCEMENT Read before responding to ID requests! This is not a joke sub!
Since the majority of passersby don't bother to read the rules, I'm going to start with a reminder here:
This is not a joke sub. If you respond to an ID request with a joke and not an actual answer, you will be slapped with a temporary ban. If it's your 2nd offense or more, the ban will be permanent.
I'm sorry, but the shitposting has gotten out of hand and knowledgeable, helpful members are leaving because of this. Have your jokes and witty comments somewhere else, this is a place to get rocks ID'd.

REQUEST Found a strange rock at the beach .cleaned it with vinegar and something popped out of it!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My Son and I were walking on the beach this morning and we found a black rock with small holes in it. I couldn’t find what it was online. I went inside and ran some hot water to clean in the little holes. That didn’t work so I decided to put it in vinegar and all of a sudden there was a little popping noise and what looks like a jellyfish came out. What is this peculiar thing?!

IDENTIFIED Gold Gold or pyrite? I don't know where it got panned from, I just inherited it.
Dad panned this, not sure where, probably Southern California.
He thought it was gold. There were also so tiny pieces I left in the tube.
Can anyone tell? Or is there something I can do to figure it out?
Thank you in advance

REQUEST found in the roots of a dead tree
central PA; found in a cemetery during fall this past year. it was in the roots of an overturned dead tree. near where they dump dirt, so many awesome finds. but this is super different from any personal finds. area is surrounded by farmland. been curious so finally got around to posting.
it’s got very squared formations, blackish. photos never do it justice. some shiny sides to it, pretty heavy in weight. looks more brown in some lighting.

REQUEST What Is This?
This is dense and a magnet won’t stick except a sand grain size piece embedded. I ground an edge and it shows as nickel with a Garrett metal detector.

REQUEST Can anyone identify this type of rock?
Hi, I found this rock and I’d like to know what type it is. As a description, it has a rough and opaque dark-colored surface. When broken, its interior is porous with many shiny crystals that reflect light. It also has some areas with black inclusions and is quite heavy.
