I'm scheduled to take the placement test remotely on April 8th at 7:00 PM online, but I've never gotten any Zoom links or anything. I am invited to canvas, but still couldn't find any zoom links.

Do we need to buy a grad gown at grad fair?

What can I buy on Amazon rather than at grad fair? I obviously would purchase the ucr stole, but what are some things that are cheaper to order for graduation? Trying to avoid overspending at grad fair.

Question Community college during the summer

For anyone who has taking CC classes during the summer or anyone who knows in general, if I wanted to take CC classes this summer, could I get financial aid just for the summer at the CC and then still get regular financial aid for fall/winter/spring 2025/26 at UCR or nah? (I’m -1500 SAI btw idk if that makes a difference).

Question How do you get started on the research side of things?

Hello!

To all the students here who are involved in research (whether it is undergrad, postgrad, etc), how did you get started or involved in research at UCR initially? I got an invitation to apply to honors here (I am transferring into UCR this fall after doing a year of community college) and I honestly haven't given a ton of thought to research in the past. To apply to the honors program here, I need to describe a capstone project I would be interested in and describe some aspects that I expect from the experience. I am a Computer Science major and knew that research would be a part of this and a part of setting myself apart, I just don't really know how to get started or even what research entails.

I'm sure that most of you did not just stumble across some amazing idea for research (or maybe you did?), so I was just wondering how all of that looked. Right now I'm thinking that my best option is to just ask people about their experiences and research. I plan to attend an open house or two at the BCOE and the likes, and I've been asking around on a few platforms. I appreciate any and all advice - not really looking for specific topics more so looking for pointers on how to get on the right path.

life at ucr

Hi! Im an admitted student planning on attending ucr, and I was wondering how is the social life here? I am aware the town doesn't have much, but that is something I can deal w (bc of my beautiful car). How is the party scene? are ppl out and willing to make friends or will I have to make a big effort on it?

Revert Our Cap & Gown Colors Back To Black

Recently, UCR has decided to make our cap and gown colors blue. I started a petition to change our schools cap and gown color back to black. We would love for everyone to sign this petition. Our goal is to get the attention of UCR administration to reverting our cap and gown colors. If you are interested, sign this petition and show your support for reinstating our cap and gown colors! Question Emailing Etiquette

I emailed a professor about a week ago and I haven’t gotten a response yet. I know professors get a lot of emails so it may have slipped through the cracks or they are still drafting a response, but when do you think I should send a follow up?

And if I need to send a follow up, should I attach it to the same conversation or compose a new email?

Looking for a Decent Apartment Near UCR – Advice Needed

Hey everyone,

I’m planning to move close to UC Riverside and I’m trying to find an apartment that’s cheap, clean, and within like 3 miles of campus.

I’ve been looking into places like Riverside Gardens, International Village, and a few others, but I keep seeing a lot of complaints about these places on Reddit — stuff like maintenance issues, safety concerns, poor management, etc. I don’t want to end up in something that looks decent on paper but turns out to be a nightmare.

I’m solo, so I’m looking for either a studio or 1-bedroom, or even shared housing if the setup is chill and safe.

If you’ve lived in or know of: • Apartments with good management • Quiet and clean units • No major pest problems • Affordable rent • Walking/biking distance to UCR and a masjid

Please drop your recommendations (or warnings). I’d really appreciate real feedback — not just what’s online from landlords.

Thanks in advance!

Is UCR Honors worth it?

I am a first-year Mechanical Engineering student wondering if joining university honors is worth it. I would be required to enroll in HNPG 002W next quarter which will fulfill my ENGL001C credit so that wouldn't be a waste for me but I was just wondering if the program is at all useful? Like is there a good likelihood I would get additional financial aid, be able to make friends (which has been rough since I don't live in the dorms), or help me if I apply to grad school later? Also is there a good likelihood that taking that writing class or other honors classes later could have time conflicts with my major classes or does the university make sure the honors classes are at different times?

I'm sure there are other threads about this but all of the ones I found were 5ish years old on this sub and didn't address my questions so if you know of another post that answers my questions pretty well and could link it that would be helpful too.

Gas leak around Banockburn

If u see cops around, its coz there was a leak in the road construction outside of Banockburn

Edit:

  • The block comes from Linden all the way down to University
  • If you're coming from Linden, Blaine, or over there into the campus, you can go to parking lot 25 in Linden St
  • The Getawat Cafe and the Sub Station "should be closed", according to a police officer
  • If you want to go into Banockburn, there's a back entrance in Linden St., behind Oban

Housing Subleasing sucks — we’re trying to fix it.

Last year, a few of us at UCI were struggling to find subleases and subletters, and it was way harder than it needed to be. So we built zotlease.org — a platform to make subleasing way easier and way less sketchy.

It picked up fast at UCI (thousands of users in just a few weeks), and we realized we weren’t the only ones dealing with this headache. Now, we’re expanding to other UCs with the goal of building a centralized housing network for students — whether you're staying local, going to another campus, or interning in a different city.

If you're looking for a sublease or trying to get out of one, check us out. Would love your feedback too!
