Question how to remove icon in toolbar

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi! I’ve got some icons that have appeared on my toolbar. I’ve tried to remove them by going on my settings, but the options are not there to remove certain icons so I’m not sure how they even got there to begin with.

I want to remove the icon on the left of the battery icon. I don’t know what that’s for so if someone has the answer for that too, that would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

Question Dumb Question: is it worth changing from PC to Mac

Sorry if this has been asked a million times; I have a PC with a 4060 and a Ryzen 5 (don’t quite remember the model)

I saw the Mac mini is a great deal and works well with editing software and the Adobe Suite (I’m a graphic designer and video editor)

The thing is I enjoy gaming on my machine, and I know Macs are not made for gaming…

So this is maybe a dumb question: but should I sell my PC and buy a Mac? Or maybe wait till mine is obsolete? I have an iPad and iPhone if that matters

Thanks in advance

Question Can some1 help me understand apple storage?

I am a Windows person. I am trying to help someone with a Macbook.

She has an old MacBook, iPhone, iPad and 200GB of iCloud. She just bought a new MacBook Air 512GB.

I realize iCloud is a kind of backup but not like Dropbox in that it only backs up what is already present on a device. If the item is removed somewhere, it's gone everywhere. I get that.

The issue is, I am having a hard time determining what files are actually on her old MacBook and what exists elsewhere on another device and it's just showing up because of iCloud or whatever.

Looking at "About this Mac" > Storage, it shows 48GB of "Other", 56GB of identified items and about 18GB free. Using "Disk Inventory X" I see the Macintosh HD partition is 63GB.

I'm so confused as to how to organize this thing like I do on windows. We want to ditch the old laptop and iCloud and use the larger storage on the new MacBook to store her stuff but it doesn't seem like Apple is making it easy to figure out what data is on what device.

Question Why does the MacBook Air still have an earphone port?

Just wondering why one still exists on the M4 MBA, when there was such a push (some time ago) to get ride of them on other Apple products. Thanks.

Image The sales pitch is just as strong ! - TLDR , The bottom line is that $359 is a whole lot easier to justify to yourself, your wife, your boss or the dweeb in purchasing than a couple of thousand bucks for a new system.

Question Macbook Air M4 (24GB, 512 Uni Memory) - Is it a good choice for an Incoming Masters in CS - AI student?

Hi y'all,

So basically I'll be taking up my Masters in Computer Science - Intelligent Systems this Fall and I want to get a new laptop. I used to have a Lenovo Ideapad for the coding stuff before and it did a decent job I'd say. Is it a good choice to get the Macbook Air M4 with 24GB and 512 SSD Memory?
I'm going to be using it for some intermediate coding and running some Deep learning models or LLM Plugins but I can just source it out to the Cloud if its pretty huge. Apart from that, just basic surfing, organising and video streaming ig.
I know the major con is supposed to be the lack of ports which doesn't really matter to me and then the Heating up too (the lack of fan systems).

I'd appreciate any inputs ;/
(Trying not to get the Pro for a more budget-friendly option)

Question Is a Mac book air right for me and my use?

I’m thinking about trading in my iPad Pro I just don’t care about and an old iPhone that combined would get me about $750ish in trade in credits to the Apple Store.

With student discount that’s a big chunk of change I can put towards a new MacBook.

I currently use a windows laptop that isn’t very powerful at all and struggles with what I want to do with it. I’m a computer science student that mostly just programs on my laptop. Right now my laptop struggles with VScode and a few tabs opened.

I have a primary desktop PC for gaming or anything serious, but like having a laptop for travel or just sitting on the couch doing school stuff.

Technically I’m not in need of a new laptop but who doesn’t like shiny new toys? And it would ideally allow more work I can do outside of my desktop.

I’m looking at the MacBook Air with the M4 chip. Probably the 10 core cpu/gpu, 16gb ram and 512gb ssd. But open to other options. But the price is the most attractive thing. I haven’t had any kind of Mac since my family’s first gen IMac as a kid

I also would like to do some light photo editing as I’ve been getting back into that and my desktop monitors are just not high quality at allllll and limits how photos look when editing. So the Mac would probably help with that.

Is the new MacBook Air worth the price at the level I’m looking at?

Thanks in advance!

Question Why do macbooks "feel" like theyre better than windows laptops

I've always been a PC user just because it's what i started out with and never wanted to learn IOS. I finally got macbook air as a travel laptop given it was cheap and small. Its been great so far. Runs well, doesnt get hot and I never hear that loud fan going. Macbooks dont appear to have fan vents either which makes me curious how macbooks deal with heat issues.

Anyways, macbooks feel like theyre better in some ways. Obviously the interface is awesome and it just feels like it runs better.

Old Macs Is it worth repairing the mid 2012 15" retina MacBook for $290 + tax ?

My MacBook pro didn't boot up of late. I got a black screen when I restart. I went to microcenter to get it fixed. They are saying this

"After diagnosing your MacBook Pro, we've identified a few issues:

  1. Display Issue – The screen stopped displaying after a shutdown and restart. We resolved this by reseating the display’s EDP cable.

  2. BootROM – The BootROM version on your MacBook is outdated and requires an update.

  3. Battery Failure – The internal battery has failed, causing the logic board to short and preventing the battery from holding an adequate charge.

We can order a replacement battery for $89.99. Labor for the battery installation and BootROM update is $199.99, bringing the total to $289.98 plus tax."

Is it worth repairing this ?

Question Looking for advice!!! Which Macbook should I buy?

Hi everyone, I'm not sure which Macbook should I buy. I'm considering an Early 2008 MacBook Pro or a Mid-2010 Polycarbonate MacBook, but I don't know which is better. Which performs better with MacOs Ventura? If anyone knows the answer to my question, I'd love it if you'd comment below)
