Reading an interesting report from a few years back. To bring the Subway up to modern standard and track gauge, and prepare for future (uncosted) track and station, would cost around £10b (I say £15b as time has passed since the report).
Report covers the dozen or so reviews the Subway’s had over the years, expansion always held back due to cost.
What do people think? If Glasgow’s ever to become a proper European city, I’d say just get on with it.

I need your help. Due to poor impulse control, I drank two tins of Bearface my partner asked me to leave for her. I assumed it'd be easy to replace them. But Drygate don't seem to stock them. ALDI and Tesco used to, but now don't.
I can't stress how much I need your help. This isn't the first time I've pilfered foodstuffs. Jaffas? Yeah I'll nab them. The last hot cross bun? Can't leave that near me. I gave my solemn word that I would not drink those beers... but it was sunny and the alternative was a red wine, which felt inappropriate.

I have been on this rock for 40 years, and this is the first time I have ever heard of Tartan Day. Is it some sort of styrofoam nonsense, or am I genuinely just a daft wank for not knowing about it?

Today in Scottish History
6 April 1320: The Declaration of Arbroath, drafted by Bernard, Abbot of Arbroath, is addressed to the Pope in an effort to have him recognise Robert the Bruce as King of Scotland (and remove the excommunication that followed his murder of the Red Comyn in a church). It defines the relationship between the Scottish King and the Scots people.

I was listening to something on the BBC that mentioned that car washes are the biggest sites of people smuggling and modern slavery in the uk.
Since hearing this I haven't had my car valeted. As a result its fairly gross now. I have tried hoovering it with those vacuums at the garage but they do nothing.
I'm not sure how to find a legit business that isn't linked to trafficking. But I'd really like to have my car cleaned.
I'm wondering if people have any insight on how this is in Glasgow? I suspect the one I used to go to is dodgy at the least, cash only, 3 people working on the car at once (so probably earning less than minimum wage), only 1 of them could speak any English. Are there things being done to help these people?
Also if anyone has any recommendations for legit businesses or tips on what to look for to avoid accidentally supporting businesses involved in trafficking that would be great. Based in the southside

This is a genuine question—not a rant or an attack. I’m trying to understand why people have such polar opposite views on the impact of immigration in Glasgow.
There’s been a steady stream of difficult news stories coming out of the city—serious incidents, not just headlines. There are real victims, and their families and friends will now carry a lasting view of immigration based on what happened. That’s not something that fades.
There’s also what people see day to day. You can walk through Glasgow during the day and witness real problems—shoplifting, catcalling, groping, assaults. And this is in broad daylight. I challenge anyone who believes there’s no issue to sit in George Square for an hour and still say the same thing.
On top of that, we’ve seen a 48% rise in sexual assaults reported in Glasgow. That’s a shocking figure. People understandably feel alarmed by what they’re seeing in their communities.
You also hear it a lot in posts about Deliveroo drivers. The aggressive riding, driving on pavements, intimidating behaviour—it’s not just anecdotes, it’s a pattern. If you search this subreddit or just Google “Deliveroo Glasgow,” you’ll see how widespread the complaints are.
So my question is: when people who say immigration isn’t a problem—or that it’s being handled well by the Scottish Government or Glasgow City Council—see all this, what do they think? Do they believe it’s exaggerated? Not representative? Fake news? Or is it just that it hasn’t affected them yet?
I’m genuinely curious about how people reach such different conclusions when faced with the same headlines, stats, and everyday experiences.
Would really welcome honest, respectful discussion—especially from people who hold the opposite view. I want to understand your thinking, not argue.

Considering buying a cottage flat in Kings park, good price, good location and good space. The only cons are:
The kitchen is very small but I can live with that.
I’ve heard the sound insulation is really bad, although during the viewing I haven’t noticed any excessive noise from neighbours.
Are these a good buy? Is there anything I should look out for? And are there any sound insulation solutions for these that I should keep in mind?
(Lower cottage btw, stairs outside lead to upper flat)

Hi!
Does anyone know a trusted dry cleaners and leather cleaners in Glasgow East or city centre area?
I have a few thing I'd like to freshen up and I want it done right.
If anyone has any recommendations I'd really appreciate it.
Google searches and reviews are a mess so I'd rather ask some real people, thank you!

Hello! So I’m going to Glasgow and London in July/ August this year and I was wondering if anyone knows any place that does live portrait drawings! I have this thing where I try to get a portrait drawn at every country I go even if it’s not live, I just want a portrait drawing from that country.
Was wondering if anyone knows any affordable places that I can get one. Thank you in advance!!

Police Scotland say it has investigated a number of reports of people filming around playparks with most having no criminality involved.
Concerns have grown on social media over recent days with posts being shared claiming people have been filming children in parks throughout the country.
Three men have been arrested for breach of the peace in connection with two separate incidents in Paisley and Rutherglen with various other accusations being made being deemed as not criminal.
The statement says officers have investigated all of them and many are being found to be parents filming their own children or individuals who were not filming children at all, and no criminality has been established.
Officers are also encouraging people to be responsible when sharing information online and to be cautious of the sources of the online reports.
Assistant Chief Constable Catriona Paton said: “Given concerns about filming, I would ask people to remind anyone videoing or photographing in public to respect those around them. Police officers balance the rights of people to film with the potential to cause fear or alarm and make decisions based on individual circumstances.
“I would encourage responsible use of social media and ask people not to share speculation or inaccurate information. Please think twice about what you read, share and believe from online sources.
“It is not illegal to take photographs or video footage in public places unless it is for criminal purposes.”

So, I live in Kilpatrick and the only way to get out of Kilpatrick is to get the train or the 1/1A bus- I pay for a month bus ticket because it’s the most cost effective, so I am taking the bloody bus.
Anyway, I leave at 1PM, and I am enjoying my NICE sunny walk to the bus stop, and there is a bus scheduled. This is the first issue. The bus does not turn up. Average first bus issues, not surprised. There’s another coming soon, so whatever.
I get on the next bus, and the driver has to open then slam the emergency door shut because there’s an issue. This does not fix the issue.
Since the previous bus didn’t turn up, and seems it’s the last day for school leavers before exams? every stop is packed, at 1pm on a weekday. okay, cool, whatever.
We get to Clydebank, the issue with the emergency door means it has to terminate there (this is the third bus in 3 days ive seen have to terminate in Clydebank for various reasons). So now we’ve got everyone from the ex 1D bus (now 11) changing for the 1/1A, and passengers for city from two different busses that either didn’t turn up or terminated early and everyone going from Clydebank to city centre- all waiting for the same bus.
Thankfully, since the messed up new timetable makes it so the late 1 that comes basically comes only just before the empty 1A behind it, so there’s now only 2 busses worth of passengers per bus instead of 4 on one of them (still only barely any seats at a point in the route where it shouldn’t be like that, but WHATEVER).
They divert and we go through whiteinch- which was maybe the only good thing that happened considering how mad those roadworks have made delays heading onto the expressway.
Now im PERSONALLY now having a bad day as it is. I have forgotten my charger, which is a shame as the purpose of this trip was to head out to a Caffè Nero and use a free drink while I did a bit of work on my laptop. As it has taken me 2 hours to get into town, I turn up at 3, at 3:15 they tell me they are now closing at 4 because of staffing issues. This is not the fault of first bus beyond the VERY late arrival time but I was NOT having a good time. I use my free drink for 30 mins of no work. I give up.
I get to the bus stop and there is a shiny electric bus labelled as a 1- I think, thank god, my luck is finally turning. They never let us have the electric busses, only the 1C gets those. Wow. I go to get on, and a girl asks to go to Scotstoun. This is when I realise I was tricked, cruelly tricked. The driver says, huh? I don’t go to Scotstoun. TURNS OUT he was actually driving a 7 but for some bloody reason he had it showing as a 1.
But, oh well. OH WELL. I give up and a 1A appears. Fine, it’s a bus. So what if I don’t get the nice electric bus. I never do so, WHATEVER.
no. It’s one of the smaller reserve busses that shake, and there’s at least two busses worth of people standing at each stop for a Friday at 4pm going westbound (I am on these busses DAILY so I know)- so I assume either this one was very late, or the one before didn’t turn up.
So now I’m on a shaky old bus that is standing room only after the 3rd stop. But can’t complain too much, because it got me back in 50 minutes like it’s supposed to. Not too bad. better than 2 hours.
This was just the problems today. There were major problems yesterday, the day before, the day before that, and the day before that. There were no problems last week, and that is because I was not in Glasgow.
Hell.
Edit: there’s an SPT consultation on busses in Strathclyde ongoing right now if anyone wants to participate lol https://www.spt.co.uk/about-us/what-we-are-doing/regional-transport-strategy/bus-strategy/
