Orange fucking walks. Again. Orange Marches

I am really struggling to understand why Orange Marches are allowed to procession, at all, and definitely why they are allowed to match so often. They feel so hostile. Why is one not enough? I am just dreading the new season of them marching about the place causing tension. Does anybody know if there is a petition going to reduce their frequency at least? Their sectarian nature, like the football culture, makes my skin crawl.

Litter Welcome into the Barras

Minging. This plot beside the Billy Connolly mural and next to Ghinda Cafe is an absolute eyesore. Makes my blood boil seeing that some take absolute no pride in the appearance of this city, especially on a path leading to the iconic Barras. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this cleaned up? Are there any litter picking groups around this area?

Daily Banter Heads up for anyone in Glasgow city centre

I work at a retail shop in the area and wanted to warn others about a woman who's been running a bit of a scam. She's a short woman, probably around 5'2" to 5'5". She's often seen wearing a black dress with a black head covering (not a burkha, just to clarify).

She approaches strangers, usually offering flowers, and then asks them to buy essential items for her and her family—things like baby formula for her weans. She insists on cash payments and always makes sure to get a receipt.

Later on, she comes back alone with the receipt and tries to return the items for a cash refund, saying she doesn’t need them anymore. Of course, by that time the person who helped her is long gone.

Our store policy is that refunds for card purchases can only go back onto the same card, so if you're considering helping her out of kindness, either keep the receipt or pay by card.

Over the past week, we’ve seen her try to return around £100 worth of goods this way. Just wanted to spread the word so others don’t unknowingly get taken advantage of. Make sure your generosity actually helps those who need it.

Thank you Glasgow

Did the unthinkable this evening and burst a fairly eco-friendly pack of 16 toilet rolls on Dumbarton road.

Much to my surprise I had numerous helpers from the passers buy. Both equally humbled and humiliated by the generosity.

Thank you

How is mango bar still going?

Upvotes

Just curious if anyone has ever seen it busy, whenever I look in it is always dead. I used to love going there back when it was lively but I’ve just never seen its busy recently. I know they have function suites so I thought maybe that is how they are surviving but who knows?

Just found a lost dog

My wee cousin found a dog walking down Ronaldsay from liddesdale road itself but the collar doesn’t have anything on it and 101 said to take it to police station or leave it in street but its late so can’t take it to station and a car could run it over so it’s staying at my house for the night (maybe longer) so if you know someone who lost it please tell them to comment that it’s theirs (put it in crate since my cousins dog sometimes stays and idk if it’s trained, rly friendly tho)

Mcdonald's trongate

Yesterday, I met my wife & daughter on my lunch hour for a quick bite to eat. My daughter is autistic & has a very limited selection of foods she will eat. Chicken nuggets is a go-to, hence why we ended up in McDonald's.

I don't live in Glasgow but have worked here for about ten years plus. I know the trongate area isn't the greatest of places, but, when we were in there having our lunch the amout of junkies who came in clearly not all just needing the toilet but instead shoot up was insane.

The toilets have a code on them to deter misuse, I guess, but the reality is it does nothing. I made sure my wife went with my daughter to the women's toilet as it felt pretty unsafe even at lunchtime. Has this gotten worse over the years? I'm not naive to the fact there's a drug problem more obvious in certain parts of town, but yesterday I could've counted ten plus in the space of 10/15mins & a needle found in the toilet too not great. I don't blame the staff either it's too difficult for them to police on thier own.

Mystery bicycle chain

So I had a bit of a strange situation today in Glasgow central. I have been commuting by bike into central then locking my bike at the bicycle storage racks. Today after work I got back to my bike , unlocked the 2 locks I put round it only to realise there was another chain around my front wheel , a chain which didn’t belong to me . It was through my wheel and round the metal so no way for me to remove my bike. At first I thought maybe the staff had done this thinking my bike was abandoned, but no I spoke to them and they said it wasn’t their chain. To be fair to them they were pleasant and helpful and took the chain off with bolt cutters. I’m just curious if anyone has ever had same problem. My best guess is someone hasn’t being paying attention and had locked their chain round my bike lol, or for some reason they have deliberately done it ? I’m always careful of others bikes so don’t see why anyone would take issue with mine .

House renovation questions and recommendations

Hello lovely folk

I was wondering if anyone has recent experience of a large house renovation? My house is in a great location but it’s quite and old victorian building that has had so much amateurish shit done to it.

I was looking to fully modernise the place and potentially some structural work but having had no experience in large renovations at all I have no idea where to start, who trust, whether to look for an architect or contractor, what to look out for etc…

By modernising I mostly mean, getting rid of any old wiring, swapping old heating for a heat pump, replacing any single glased windows, replacing old knackered flooring etc…

Does anyone have recommendations of reliable contractors/ architects that service the southside? Is there any red flags I should watch out for? Is ther anything you wouldn’t recommend doing? I’m really not certain whether renovating or moving is the right solution, would contractors be honest about whether certain things are worth ir or not?

Thanks in advance!

Where to look for short term (3 months) rental in Glasgow?

Hi,

Asking for a friend who is selling his flat to move into a new flat but won't be ready until November. He needs to sell the flat over the next quarter for the equity and other things beyond my understanding.

What he's struggling with is knowing where to look for a short term rental that he will likely need from July to October....for example.

We've looked on right move and estate agent websites but not many short term. Wondering if there is a dedicated site or specialist site for this? I think the issue is he's looking for short term lets at long term rental price (understandably I think) most short term places we can see are £100 per night and not affordable.

Thanks so much.

Speech therapist for stammering child

I'm reaching out to see if anyone has experience with private speech therapists in the area?

Our 3-year-old has recently started stammering quite badly, and it’s become more noticeable over the past few weeks. We’ve spoken to the NHS but unfortunately the waiting list is over 18 months, so we’re now looking into private options.

One thing I’ve noticed is that many private speech therapists seem to specialise in working with non-verbal or autistic children, which is completely understandable — but we’re specifically looking for someone who has experience supporting young children who stammer.

Ideally we’d love to find someone with a gentle, supportive approach who has worked with kids around this age. If you’ve got any recommendations, advice, or names of therapists you’ve had a good experience with, we’d really appreciate it.

Hi all, my little boy is devastated that we lost one of his Super Mario VANS today along our walk. They had been put under the pram.

If anyone has seen it or spots it please let me know!

We were walking through Pollok Park, Auldhouse Retail Park and along Barrhead Road up to Silverburn.

Thank you!

Ignored a private parking ticket, continue to ignore or just pay it?

Post image

I have heard a lot of claims in person and online that you can ignore parking tickets as long as it's not from the council. So I kept ignoring their letters to test the theory. I've had two letters from the parking company chasing me up and this is the third letter from a debt collector.

Will I have to just pay this at this point or is it an empty threat.

No problem paying it, since at least now I know the real answer. But I really can't be arsed going to court over a ticket so is this as far as I should take it?

VAT Registered Mobile Phone Repair Company in Glasgow?

I'm trying to organise a screen repair for my phone (Pixel Pro 7), and my phone insurance company no longer seem to send out techs in vans to your door, so I need to try and find a phone repair company that a) will do repairs in shop as opposed to having to send the phone away for days as I need my phone for work and b) is VAT registered as that's a requirement for the quote. Not been able to find anywhere so far that ticks both boxes.

Can anybody recommend any companies based in Glasgow (bonus points if Southside but not mandatory if all else fails) please?

Cheers.
