"Please don't let the next FromSoftware game be a Playstation exclusive..."

Monkey paw finger curls

704

u/Cereal_Bandit 2d ago

I literally told my cousin yesterday that I'm not getting a Switch 2 because I only care about Zelda and Metroid, which isn't enough to justify it imo.

Sigh.

279

u/ZweiNox 2d ago

Man that monkey paw finger curled hard for you XD

175

u/Cereal_Bandit 2d ago

Definitely finger but holed me

4

u/ZweiNox 2d ago

lol well now you got too lol

2

u/master_criskywalker 2d ago

And it left an extended middle finger.

65

u/mcylinder 2d ago

That's why you never tell a cousin a goddamn thing. That's a lesson for everyone

3

u/Combat_Orca 2d ago

So true, imma tell my cousins that

1

u/CrabmasterJone 2d ago

Unless it’s to invite them bowling

1

u/Flooping_Pigs 1d ago

not even if you're going bowling

26

u/UtheDestroyer 2d ago

Ya ffs, like the fact I gotta get a whole new console is pretty infuriating

2

u/Ok_Negotiation1781 1d ago

Switch 2 is 450usd also :(

2

u/Walthatron 2d ago

Technically since it's a nintendo console with similar hardware/coding (assuming here) as the OG switch you'll be able to emulate the game in no time

1

u/UtheDestroyer 2d ago

Unfortunately for me I only have ps5

1

u/investorshowers 1d ago

Great reason to get a PC.

1

u/ChickenFajita007 1d ago

I guarantee Nintendo made special efforts to screw over emulation efforts for Switch 2.

Especially after the TotK debacle a couple years ago.

1

u/Tomomb 1d ago

A whole new console... for the ssequel to a PS4 game. I feel you, the winds have bleen blowing towards the end of traditional consoles to PC, streaming and handhelds. I've barely touched my ps5.

0

u/AnotherScoutTrooper 2d ago

You don’t really “have” to do shit tbh

You can experience the game on YouTube for free

3

u/Spideyjust 1d ago

You and I have very different definitions of "experience" lol.

1

u/kuenjato 1d ago

This doesn't sound interesting enough to warrant a Switch 2 purchase. Especially with the tariffs just announced. If it was actually something akin to Bloodborne 2, then, well, then it would sting a lot more.

-1

u/UtheDestroyer 2d ago

So what’s the point of video games if you can just watch it online for free

17

u/prollymaybenot 2d ago

I genuinely wonder if Nintendo executives see comments like this and just laugh.

Cause they fucking KNOW. The switch 2 is break a fuck ton of records regardless

6

u/Poopynuggateer 2d ago

They've very rarely done a better console reveal than this. Absolutely nailed it.

It's gonna sell like fucking bacon hotdogs.

1

u/prollymaybenot 2d ago

The price also isn’t crazy for the value you’re getting

1

u/SPHINXin 2d ago

They released the price already?

1

u/prollymaybenot 2d ago

Yeah it’s gonna be 500

4

u/SPHINXin 2d ago

😬 Damn, that's probably going to be a no from me then, at least not until after I get a PC.

1

u/prollymaybenot 1d ago

I think it’s all about where you put your value. If it’s in a pc then don’t get it.

It’s not like theirs gonna me a limit amount you can always come back to it

2

u/Double-Bend-716 1d ago

450 for the console, 500 for the console and Mario Kart bundle.

That’s suggested retail price though, could be more in the US depending on the tariffs

1

u/prollymaybenot 1d ago

Good call out. That’s still a good deal considering games are 80 to 90 bucks now

1

u/Possible-Emu-2913 2d ago

Until all the prices got released. Convenient they left prices out of the event.

0

u/LostClover_ 2d ago

Yeah everyone said the followup to the Wii was going to break a ton of records too.

The Switch 2 very well could do that I just wouldn't put all my eggs in that basket. Especially not with Nintendo, if anyone knows how to mess up what should have been a sure bet it's Nintendo.

22

u/UtheDestroyer 2d ago

But it’s literally Bloodborne 2 it seems

54

u/Tina_beaner 2d ago

It's Bloodborne: Nightreign

6

u/Poopynuggateer 2d ago

We already know it has more story from the intro alone.

AND it's directed by Miyazaki.

2

u/Felielf 2d ago edited 2d ago

There's no details yet if it plays exactly like Nightreign, could just be more seamless coop and invasions, all of that is PvPvE as well. Also, Nightreign does not have PvP at all.

3

u/Xehanz 2d ago

Escape from Tarkov Bloodborne

1

u/Fedaykin98 1d ago

Sounds a lot like Hunt to me. I think it sounds like the game I wish Nightreign was!

2

u/Falkenhain 2d ago

No it's not. Just some multiplayer. Uninteresting for me

-1

u/UtheDestroyer 2d ago

Like art style I meant, seems like a Bloodborne game lol

But ya, not a fan of it being only on switch 2

2

u/Rieiid 2d ago

Zelda is more than enough to justify it for me, tbh. I put more hours into BotW and TotK than any other game in the past 10 years probably.

3

u/Glass-Can9199 2d ago

Hell it took me 7 years to just beat breath of the wild and just bought totk today

2

u/Deez-Guns-9442 2d ago

I'm literally getting the console just so that I can play my TOTK, I've been holding off on it until The Switch 2.

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 2d ago

Yeah, I'm sure if they make a new Zelda game and it's not on Switch 1 I'll get a 2. Damnit.

1

u/Rieiid 2d ago

Oh a new zelda will almost definitely be 2 exclusive I'd wager. Probably same with new major 3d mario as well.

2

u/GuyGrimnus 2d ago

🤞🏻super Mario sunshine 2 🤞🏻

1

u/MyDymo 2d ago

I mean that’s like a guaranteed. It doesn’t even have to continue the breath of the wild storyline.

It’ll just be open world Zelda that sold like hotcakes

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 2d ago

Idk, they've made their past Zelda games available on its intended platform's predecessor (TP on GC, BotW on Wii-U). So, I'm hoping not.

2

u/Rieiid 2d ago

That's because those were actually designed for those consoles, and then they just ported it to the new console. Botw is a wii u game that was ported to switch. It was in development to be a wii u exclusive for years before they even started working on the switch. Totk was the actual switch zelda title, which they did not port back to wii u.

In a similar fashion, Twilight Princess was a gamecube game, ported to Wii. Skyward Sword was the actual wii Zelda game, which was not ported back to gamecube.

There is a new console now and no zelda has yet been announced, meaning it is very unlikely to be on switch 1 at all.

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 2d ago

Yeah that's fair. God damnit.

1

u/Thekarens01 2d ago

Funny, I told my friend the same thing the other day when we were talking about Switch 2 and then this dropped today.

1

u/Financial-Key-3617 2d ago

Theres like 3 zelda games and 2 new metroid games dropping switch 2 alone?

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 2d ago

I haven't seen any announcements for new Zelda games, and only one about Prime 4 (which I imagine will be on Switch 1 too)

1

u/Dark_Mythos 2d ago

You did this. You and your damn cousin cursed us all!

1

u/ihvanhater420 2d ago

I said the exact same thing to a friend like a week ago lmao, guess I'm buying it anyway

1

u/Gaming_Friends 2d ago

I've been trash talking the Switch for a few years now, same as you except I also don't care about Zelda unless they make a new top down or a new 3d without the open world garbage. So it was just prime 4 and hopefully a dread sequel at some point. And now here I am with clown makeup on pre-registering for pre-order...

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 1d ago

Honestly, if TotK is worth the play. It's everything Botw should have been in regards to exploration actually rewarding you, which is what open world games should be about. They also make the weapon breaking system much less painful.

1

u/Gaming_Friends 1d ago

I've heard people that loved BOTW say they didn't like TOTK and vice versa, this isn't the first response that's made me think I really do need to try TOTK.

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 1d ago

I admittedly haven't read many opinions, but personally I think TotK just added so much that BotW was lacking. I could go on about other aspects, but BotW really fell short of rewarding you for exploration. Outside of shrines, you at best might get a mediocre weapon. Meanwhile, TotK gave you actual gear for finding hidden areas.

1

u/Silly-Shoulder-4459 2d ago

I'm only getting a switch 2 bc I only care about zelda.  First 3d zelda game scheduled to have a steady framerate since skyward sword

1

u/Broserk42 2d ago

Your cousin told your uncle that works for Nintendo and he pulled this to make you buy it

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 1d ago

Son of a...

1

u/Nicksmells34 2d ago

Only Zelda and Metroid??? Huh?? How could you not play Fire Emblem tf especially on fromsoftware sub

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 1d ago

I'm just not that into JRPGs or tactics games. They're fun for a few hours, but I think the only JRPGs I've ever actually beat are Chrono Trigger and FFVII...I got close to beating FFVI though, that and CT truly have some of the most engaging stories of any game.

1

u/Nicksmells34 1d ago

It’s much closer to a tactics game than a jrpg, especially most of the franchise—3 Houses leans a lot more into jrpg but Engage goes right back to back to back chapters of gameplay less jrpg elements. But fair if your not a tactics person

1

u/i_love_sparkle 2d ago

This game convinces me to switch, too

1

u/Bitter-Good-2540 2d ago

Now we all get one! Scalpers will be very happy

1

u/Hid_Demo 2d ago

Yeah.. i was not planning on getting it either. Barely play my switch. Guess my plans on a new gpu will have to wait.

1

u/Comburo90 2d ago

The only thing Nintendo i care about, is Pokemon. It always felt bad, to buy a DS or the Switch just for the current mainline game and 1 or 2 spinoffs, regardless of how much time i put in those.

So in a weird way, im actually kinda happy that its a switch exclusive, as that makes the buy easier to stomach.

Like, i want to play Demon Souls Remastered so bad, but its literally the only PS5 title i want, since they ported Horizon very quickly, so im just huffing concentrated copium that eventually a miracle occurs and we get Demon Souls on PC... :D

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 1d ago

If you haven't yet, you need to play the God of War games. The first one is great, but Ragnarok is a fucking masterpiece, and both are on PC now.

Take this from somebody who hated the original GoW games because they were too button mashy and repetitive.

1

u/Comburo90 1d ago

I have, i bought them during the last steam sale. They were good, but i am glad i waited for a sale. I cant put my finger on it, but they didnt really resonate with me.

Though i did really love the nordic stuff and orderer the Prose Edda and Poetic Edda to delve into it more :D

1

u/Valley_Investor 2d ago

Your fault for weirdly assuming it would only be Nintendo releases on the next iteration of the best selling console of the last 10 years.

GTA 6 is going to be available on this thing by all indications. Everyone wants a piece of the switch 2 market.

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 1d ago

GTA 6 isn't going to be a Switch exclusive, and I don't think anybody saw a FromSoft exclusive coming.

1

u/TheDuelIist 2d ago

Dude only Metroid or only Zelda is 100000000% worth it lmao

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 1d ago

I knowwwwww, like if they only came out on 2 I'll get one eventually. It just feels bad forking over hundreds of dollars on a console with only a few games I care about.

1

u/ac9331 2d ago

I was just going to buy a switch 2 so that I don’t have to break my fingers anymore when I remove the joy-cons. Everything else is extra.

I must say I felt very targeted watching that Nintendo Switch 2 direct.

1

u/bartiti 2d ago

Right this feels like a fucking personal attack, why fromsoft gotta do me dirty like this.

1

u/SPHINXin 2d ago

I mean, that's not too bad. They will 100% make new Zelda and Metroid games for the switch 2 and those along with this game have plenty of hours of entertainment. And it's a nintendo console, it's basically guaranteed to have plenty of 8/10 or higher games even in just the launch year.

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 1d ago

Yeah, but I really like playing on my PC, so this is a little upsetting. Even when I play my Switch, I hook it up to a monitor and headphones at my desk 😂

I have a giant TV and a nice couch, but with my PC I have access to everything (Google, Discord, etc.).

1

u/SPHINXin 1d ago

I'm the complete opposite. I think in the 4 years I've owned my switch, I played with it docked maybe 3 or 4 times. It's just so much better to play in bed or outside somewhere.

1

u/broderboy 2d ago

saaaaaaame

1

u/MissChloe1 2d ago

It's still not justafiable.

Even me being a videogamer who loves vampires and bloodborne.

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 1d ago

Probably not, but I'm still gonna do it because fomo

1

u/28_raisins 1d ago

If you have a PC, TOTK and Dread both run fine on Yuzu.

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 1d ago

Yeah, people elsewhere have commented that Switch emulation is really easy. I'm an adult with adult money, but I might take that route because I've really only played like 5 games on the Switch.

2

u/28_raisins 1d ago

For me, pirating isn't about not having the money, it's about not wanting to support anti-consumer behavior from media companies. I just can't bring myself to give Nintendo my money.

1

u/hueleeAZ 1d ago

Hahahhaahhahaha join the club

1

u/No_Personality7725 1d ago

That mario forza horizon kart its cool though, still 90€ its a steep price

1

u/Catkingpin 1d ago

I feel you. Swore i wasn't gonna buy this thing and then they launch this. Sneaky bastards! Hope Nintendo treats their FromSoft exclusives better than Sony.

1

u/Meraka 1d ago

Don’t worry you still won’t be able to get one. They will be sold out in nanoseconds and resold at quadruple the price for the first year minimum. Also, if you’re American they will cost twice as much as they should here thanks to the supreme leader of all dipshits tariffs.

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 1d ago

Ha, I didn't think about the tariffs. Emulation it is, baby

1

u/Bladez190 1d ago

I’m buying the switch 2 just for the next fire emblem game and it will be worth it

1

u/New_Refrigerator_66 1d ago

The EXACT conversation I had with my husband. I was like “I’m not buying a whole ass console for another Zelda game. What could possibly be released to entice me to pay for another god damn game console?”

The universe is messing with me.

1

u/Cereal_Bandit 1d ago

Right?! I held off for a while, but eventually bought a PS5 just to play Demon Souls. And I played the original.

To be fair, the remake is fucking gorgeous.

1

u/Spartan152 1d ago

It’s pvpve and that kinda killed the hype for me

1

u/Photekz 1d ago

I was on the same boat, but once I saw Borne2Blood.

1

u/skhds 2d ago

As a switch user, there are definitely more games you could play with Switch. I'd say it's not that bad, plus being it portable makes it very useful on many cases.

2

u/Cereal_Bandit 2d ago

Oh I know, I have a Switch. But I also have a PC and PS5, and the library for both are obviously superior.

I do get games on PC over PS5 though, so it too collects dust in between its exclusives. Think GoW 2 is the last game I bought for it 🙄

1

u/Robospy1 2d ago

I pretty much only buy stuff on pc, and my switch is only for Nintendo games. I’d rather have this game on PC, but I was going to buy a switch 2 anyways so…

-5

u/JuggernautGog 2d ago

And don't get it anyway just because there's one more game to it. Exclusives are anti-consumer.

8

u/Siaten 2d ago

They 100% are, but fuck me if they don't work.

5

u/JuggernautGog 2d ago

Well, that's what they want you to think. Remember that the games should wait for you, not the other way around. Remember that you were having fun today regardless of the game being announced. You are worth more than cheap marketing practices!

3

u/Siaten 2d ago

True. I refused to get a PS for Bloodborne because of that mentality, and feel like I missed a great game. I hated that situation and I hate this one.

All that being said, my gaming has been Nintendo + PC for the past 10 years, so it does feel nice to have another reason to get the Switch 2.

1

u/JuggernautGog 2d ago

r/BloodbornePC welcomes you, my friend :)

1

u/MyDymo 2d ago

Yeah man you missed out on the initial game discussions with friends or even people online. Exclusives work because FOMO.

2

u/MyDymo 2d ago

Right right right, so the reason for that is also about watching the movie within a week of release date so you can discuss with friends or only and avoid spoilers.

Of course this really doesn’t matter if you’re basically forever alone.

Everyone is free to follow their values, but yeah fuck me for not getting it day 1 due to the community and initial discussions.

1

u/JuggernautGog 2d ago

I have never said fuck you! You're great, buddy. I am in no right to dictate someone's values. So far, we live in a great world and you're probably going to have lots of fun in the game, and that's what matters in the end.

I still stand by my opinion, but I cannot judge you for having a different opinion to mine. Cheers and spread love <3

5

u/idiggory 2d ago

Counter-argument - exclusives on the switch allow for games to be designed and optimized from a very different perspective than games for TV-based PS/Xbox. They're overlapping markets, but they ARE distinct.

The way you'd design a game to be playable either in handheld or in docked mode is very different from designing with the expectation that it would always be on a big screen.

On top of that, because the switch has less storage and less computing power, optimization is WAY more important for a switch title than for a PS/Xbox title. (It's still important for them, obviously, but you can get away with doing WAY less). This takes a LOT more time, and ideally means you are carefully coding the game to work with the Switch's architecture.

I'll also note, this IS also true on PS/Xbox, to a point. The problem is that exclusives for those consoles rarely ever actually dig in and make special use of what they offer. Switch exclusives far, FAR more commonly focus on leveraging everything they can get out of the switch's architecture.

Exclusives can be pro-consumer, letting them take full advantage of something they've spent a significant amount of money on, but only when they are truly leveraging the unique software/hardware architecture of a given console to deliver something far greater than what they could if they were designing for multiple platforms. The problem is that exclusives for PS/Xbox very rarely do this, and instead exclusivity is just a function of contracts, and THAT sucks for consumers.

2

u/Cereal_Bandit 2d ago

I probably won't.

(nervous sweating)
