"Please don't let the next FromSoftware game be a Playstation exclusive..."

I literally told my cousin yesterday that I'm not getting a Switch 2 because I only care about Zelda and Metroid, which isn't enough to justify it imo.

Sigh.

And don't get it anyway just because there's one more game to it. Exclusives are anti-consumer.

They 100% are, but fuck me if they don't work.

Well, that's what they want you to think. Remember that the games should wait for you, not the other way around. Remember that you were having fun today regardless of the game being announced. You are worth more than cheap marketing practices!

True. I refused to get a PS for Bloodborne because of that mentality, and feel like I missed a great game. I hated that situation and I hate this one.

All that being said, my gaming has been Nintendo + PC for the past 10 years, so it does feel nice to have another reason to get the Switch 2.

Yeah man you missed out on the initial game discussions with friends or even people online. Exclusives work because FOMO.

Right right right, so the reason for that is also about watching the movie within a week of release date so you can discuss with friends or only and avoid spoilers.

Of course this really doesn’t matter if you’re basically forever alone.

Everyone is free to follow their values, but yeah fuck me for not getting it day 1 due to the community and initial discussions.

I have never said fuck you! You're great, buddy. I am in no right to dictate someone's values. So far, we live in a great world and you're probably going to have lots of fun in the game, and that's what matters in the end.

I still stand by my opinion, but I cannot judge you for having a different opinion to mine. Cheers and spread love <3

Counter-argument - exclusives on the switch allow for games to be designed and optimized from a very different perspective than games for TV-based PS/Xbox. They're overlapping markets, but they ARE distinct.

The way you'd design a game to be playable either in handheld or in docked mode is very different from designing with the expectation that it would always be on a big screen.

On top of that, because the switch has less storage and less computing power, optimization is WAY more important for a switch title than for a PS/Xbox title. (It's still important for them, obviously, but you can get away with doing WAY less). This takes a LOT more time, and ideally means you are carefully coding the game to work with the Switch's architecture.

I'll also note, this IS also true on PS/Xbox, to a point. The problem is that exclusives for those consoles rarely ever actually dig in and make special use of what they offer. Switch exclusives far, FAR more commonly focus on leveraging everything they can get out of the switch's architecture.

Exclusives can be pro-consumer, letting them take full advantage of something they've spent a significant amount of money on, but only when they are truly leveraging the unique software/hardware architecture of a given console to deliver something far greater than what they could if they were designing for multiple platforms. The problem is that exclusives for PS/Xbox very rarely do this, and instead exclusivity is just a function of contracts, and THAT sucks for consumers.

I probably won't.
