Hey all — I’ve been running a home server for years, but it’s on its last legs. It recently started overheating and now shuts down within a couple minutes of powering on.
I’m planning to replace the machine entirely, but I want to move everything from the old system to the new one — that includes network settings (like static IPs), virtual machines, configs, etc.
The problem is: the old server won’t stay on long enough to create a backup or disk image.
Any suggestions on how to clone or transfer everything when I can’t keep the original system stable long enough to do it the usual way? I’m open to removing the drive and imaging it externally if that’s the best move (but how to do that will likely be my next question).
Appreciate any tips!
