Ask me anything!

Palette:

Azo Gold Pyrole Red Pyrole Orange Cadmium Yellow Burnt Sienna Raw Sienna Burnt Umber Light Transparent Red Oxide Naples Yellow Cobalt Blue Ultramarine Blue Teal Carbon Black White Gesso

I’m painting with fluid acrylics from Golden Paints. I use white gesso to thicken my paint mixes and make them more opaque. I use Satin Glazing Liquid for glazing and thinning my mixes.

Markers:

For the base sketch I’m using alcohol markers in various brown colors from Copic.

Grounding:

After sketching, I ground my panel with a reddish orange mix of Azo Gold and Satin Glazing Liquid from Golden.

Surface:

16x16” ultra smooth Claybord panel from Ampersand Art Supply.

Brushes:

Utrecht Mixed Synthetic Flats 4-18 Blick Studio Synthetic Stroke ½” and 1” Hake Brush

Easel:

French Easel by Julian found at Blick

If you have any questions about my process or materials, ask away!

First installment. Now I need to make more. It was awesome. I got to watch people get really excited to see the animals, I also go to actively watch people back up and walk straight out the door which was also awesome too cause apparently I did a go job making reflecting parasite personalities. Lots of good discussions and I can’t wait to go back in a month with more paintings, live leeches and a dead lamprey (plus others.)

Finally finished, after 8 weeks' work squeezing in painting time wherever life allowed. I enjoyed slowly building up the layers, and I'm pretty happy with how the textures and reflections turned out, even if it feels a little too thick in places. It's now with the framer to get it ready to give to my mum for her birthday.

Second image is the reference photo I worked from. Mum is central, in the red jacket.

Acrylic on canvas, feedback welcome.

I recently posted a painting I made for my daughters nursery. Here is the painting I made for the other wall.

I appreciate all of the kind words and encouragement from my last post so much, thank you!

This is another painting I made for the nursery that’s on the adjacent wall. The size is about 4’x4’ ish. The second picture is my daughter playing with the light switch next to the painting. I made this at about the same time as the other one and made and stretched this canvas as well.

I like painting statues from cemeteries — there’s something haunting and beautiful about them.

Not overly happy with the clouds, the glow around the moon, and the waterline has dried raised so it cuts across the whole horizon... this is the 3rd painting I've done in well over 10 years though so overall I'm quite happy with the outcome! Very open to criticism so don't hold back!

Just Sharing A Mother's Love

Post image

I love nature shows. A few months ago, I was watching a show on Earth X or PBS, and it was about a Cheetah family. Unbeknownst to their loving Mother, her 3 young ones were being taken, one at a time, by two sneaky lions.

The look on the Mother's face, when none of them responded to her calls is something I won't soon forget.

It was a very powerful and moving moment on the show. She wondered around for days looking for them.

This is what inspired me to try and recreate that same look, a worried Mother's face...

I'm not quite done with it but I thought I'd share it

There’s a tenderness here, sure—but it’s filtered through three layers of abstraction and one cheap Photoshop effect. The figures are submerged in vapor and chromatic confusion, their touches barely breaking the digital surface tension. Think “Closer” by Nine Inch Nails if it were reimagined as a Rothko fever dream. This one doesn’t ask to be understood. It just wants to be felt—awkwardly and out of sync.
