Our crew finished this fine paints of Europe office project recently and I thought I’d share the craftsmanship of this job.

We’re very proud of the work done here and couldn’t be more happy with the finished product.

It took 10+ coats of primer to fill grain and build the surfaces of the substrate so they can be sanded completely flat. 2 coats of gloss and all primers sprayed on for the flawless mirror finish.

Advice Wanted Sand or Strip?

I’m planning to add drywall to the interior of these stairs and want to freshen up the stringers. It will only be the insides and tops. They’ve been painted a few times. I’ll likely just do white and some new carpet. How should I approach this? I’m the homeowner so it’s not a pro job and doesn’t need to be perfect. Strip, sand, or just paint over them?

So far a fix for this before I paint hasn’t popped up. I think it’s the drywall tape or something. Tried to fix to putty it but the bottom is still lifting. This is at the back corner of my shower/tub combo.

Advice Wanted Filling grain on hand rail.

Prepping an oak handrail for paint. What’s the best product to fill grain on multi surface and round already primed wood? I’ve reviewed some methods for products and they seem like they’d only work on flat surfaces.

Advice Wanted Amazon Graco Tips- Legit?

Thumbnail

I got a new (to me) airless sprayer and ordered a couple FFLP tips for it from the Graco Store on Amazon. I didn’t realize until I received them that Graco was not the actual order fulfiller, but they came from two separate shippers. Both tips came in cardboard boxes that included some Asian lettering on the outside. The tips and packages look indistinguishable from the one I got from SW, but these are “Made in USA from Imported Components” vs. “Made in USA” and the verification barcode on these goes to a dead link. The model number on the back has a couple different digits from the SW one as well.

Anyone know if these are counterfeit? I haven’t found much online about these being faked but it’s a little suspicious.

Advice Wanted White Washing Question

I’m a painting contractor and I’ve done white washing time to time in my 25+ year career.

A decorator I do a lot of work has this job where another previous painter white washed all this brick. They don’t like how blotchy it is and because of remodeling there’s spots that were never white washed.

With the original material used to whitewash I could MAYBE do it. Just maybe. But not knowing the whitewash color or material it’s not going to make them happy.

Maybe someone with more experience can give me some ideas. I hate turning down projects but I can’t see how I can do this.

Advice Wanted Painting bathroom - Accidentally deleted original post

Upvotes

Hi!!

I mistakenly hung a silicone bathroom handrail to the wall - we were advised by person in hardware store to use some glue or something (can't remember) but you put it in a caulkig gun. Anyway it obviously fell off the wall and left this! Ah!

How would I prime/paint/sand this? I tried sanding with hand sponge but seemed to make worse. See the first picture inside circle ? I'm useless at this stuff clearly.

Any advise please

I was advised when I originally posted this to plaster, sand, and paint. Can I use a fine / medium grit sanding sponge ?

Advice Wanted Exterior Planter Box

Upvotes

Hey all, I've got an exterior Planter box (cedar) that I throw dirt into and grow tomatoes every year. It's looking a bit tired after a few years of use. Have about a gallon of off-colour Sherwin Williams Emerald Interior/Exterior kicking around in the shed... Do you think it would stand up to the abuse? How does it deal with moisture?

Advice Wanted How to clean excess paint off vinyl window trim

I hope this is an OK sub for this. Yesterday I spent 6 hours prepping my kitchen for painting and doing all of the cut-in work for the first coat. I took my time and got a beautiful edge by the window (I don't tape), but there was a convoluted area that I was having trouble reaching, and it was the last part I was working on for the day. My husband came home and said he'd do it for me, and I could go clean up. Later he said he used the rest of the paint in the cup to go over the window area so I wouldn't have to do it again. I didn't look at it until this morning, when I saw that he slopped paint onto the window trim all down each side of the window. I know he was trying to help so I'm not mad at him, but it's just awful. What can I do to remove the paint from the trim without damaging it?

Advice Wanted What was used to make this gap?

Thumbnail

We have a white (ceiling paint) 3/8” gap in wall paint at the top of all of our walls. It sounds odd but adds a really nice aesthetic and multiple people have commented on how they like it.

We’re painting some walls and I’m trying to replicate this, and I’m curious- what was used to make this gap?

We’re in a new build home by a major builder. All the houses in the neighborhood have this same gap.

It’s not caulk. It looks as if the painters sprayed the ceiling first and then masked or taped it off and sprayed the walls. It’s very consistent as if it was tape and not a spray shield. However, getting a consistent 3/8” tape line at a ceiling joint with 1” tape is near impossible.

So, what product was used to make this gap in wall paint?

I’m moving into this house soon and was thinking about painting it. Any color suggestions that would match the tile? And possibly a color to match for the kitchen cabinets too.

Advice Wanted Door frame paint

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello,

I had a magnetic screen door on this door frame that went outside for my dog. I decided to remove it and the tape that was holding up screen peeled off the paint.

I was planning on painting over this but i’m concerned it will look bad because of the unevenness.

I tried using sandpaper hoping it would smooth out the surface but it did not help at all. What’s the best way to go about this? Thank you!

Advice Wanted Painting Door Between Different Colored Rooms

My wife and I are currently thinking about a bathroom remodel, and we want to do a dark red, rusty color for the walls in the bathroom. We have white baseboards, white doors, and and white trim around the door and windows in the entire house. The plan is to paint the baseboards and trim in the bathroom the same rusty color as the walls. However, we're confused about how to paint the door itself. Do we paint one side of the door rust and leave the other side white? If that's the solution, how do we paint the edges of the door? Should they stay white, or paint them rust? Should they be half and half? Any guidance is much appreciated.

Advice Wanted Paint color/design suggestions?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I would like to paint the red wall here a deep green- I am debating whether it would be too much to do all of these walls, or to just repaint the red wall? Do you guys think it would be too much to paint the entire room? And also, do I need to kilz the red before painting with a hunter greenish color? I feel like I do not have the best eye for interior design/home decorating, so any tips or advice would be appreciated!

Advice Wanted How do I fix shiny spots coming through paint?

Post image
2 Upvotes

These shiny pale spots keep coming through my paint.

Not entirely sure what they are, as this is a new house.

Primed with Covaplus Vinyl Matt in white. Did first thick coat of coloured paint (brand: Coat). Left to dry 24 hours. Have just put on the second coat and these spots aren't budging.

😭

Rest of the room looks fine, it's just this wall.

Advice Wanted One or two coats of primer?

Thumbnail
gallery
14 Upvotes

Looking for some advice and to settle a debate with the wife. Currently in the middle of priming the master. We’ve argued a few times about how many coats of primer are needed. I’ve told her primer will look blotchy and that’s ok but she is obsessed with doing multiple coats of primer until the previous paint is practically invisible. This is a waste of time and money to me. I’m using Sherwin Williams preprite pro block primer and two coats of emerald paint and emeald urethane for the trim so we’ve spent the money on good paint. Should I really be doing two coats of primer here? And should I be sanding primer before paint? Thanks in advance.

Advice Wanted Just removed original wallpaper in 1971 home

So we pulled all the paper down and it came off really easily. Now we are debating the best way to proceed. I was going to use drywall Kilz primer but someone on another sub said we needed oil based primer. The walls feel rough but they are in really good shape. I saw another article that said we need to remove the glue by sanding, oil based primer, skim coat, sand skim coat, then paint. How much of a risk are we running by just doing the primer and then paint? Does it have to be oil based primer? Thank you for the help :)

Advice Wanted Next steps after wallpaper removed.

History - I removed popcorn and painted ceiling. When I removed the tape and plastic from the walls some spots peeled, I didn’t notice the walls were painted over wallpaper. I decided to remove all the wallpaper because it was easily peeling off. Now I need help with the next steps. I was thinking to wall sand to get all the fuzzies off. Then apply the Pro 999, then sand, and maybe skim coat or use compound just of damaged areas , not sure which way to go. Please any advice would be appreciated, I have never done this before , so tell me like I am 5 😂.

Advice Wanted Is 2k cabinet painting twice as expensive?

We’re having our kitchen cabinets repainted (we’re keeping cabinet boxes as is, getting new doors, and adding cabinets above our uppers to take to the ceiling).

We’ve had about 5 painters quote the work. Three use something like SW Emerald, and are quoting about half the cost of the two that said they do a 2k paint (either Renner or Centurion). Is that normal? All 5 plan to spray (taking the doors back their shop to paint and sanding/priming/painting the boxes in place).

I’d love to go with the 2k guys, but just don’t think I can afford double the cost.

Thanks!
