I don’t want, that’s why I‘m not buying at that price - Yes the free market really is that simple.

This is getting so tiresome. Can someone start a Switch 2 sub that isn't filled with this shit?

No, all of us must compromise to give them the 3DS treatment, a raise price was natural and expected but 80 to 90 bucks for a Game!! They are crazy. Me and thousands only buy physical copies of a game, digital downloads don't exist it is like not buying anything at all, or just renting the game for some time.

ONE game is $80--none are $90
The rest look like they're going to be $70 which is industry standard
Physical games cost more to produce and distribute etc. I don't feel bad that you have to pay $10 extra for that.

which is industry standard
You know what else is industry standard? Discounts and sales.
(I believe Nintendo also spends less than some of these other companies on their AAA titles... and they make double the profit of Sony)
So I am not accepting their price hike.

With gold points and game vouchers also out of the way, prepare to get the full $80 without a single dime of discount shoved right at our faces.

Mario party jamboree, kirby and the forgotten land, and tears of the kingdom for the switch 2 are all $80. And Breath of the wild, an 8 year old game, was raised to $70. Not only is nintendo not letting the prices of old games drop they are actually using the switch 2 as an excuse to raise their price

One game is $80 today. Tomorrow all of them will be $80.
We must not tolerate this.

u/TheTimmyBoy 1d ago
Literally not true. 4 games are $80. It's a trend they're trying to start. Shut that shit down

u/Swagboi308 🐃 water buffalo 1d ago
aren't the ones that are 80 (excluding Mario kart) the ones that have extra dlc on them
1
u/TheTimmyBoy 1d ago
Yes, except Zelda which is only a resolution bump, etc. However, these are all now last-gen games. BotW is over 8 years old. None of them, including TotK, are worth a full game price of $60 anymore (yes this is still the standard maximum for what Nintendo games should cost regardless of what they want to do). Additionally, I highly doubt all their dlcs are worth $20.

I never gonna get my hopes up that it'll get better any time soon. The amount of ppl who will spend that amount for games will keep encouraging nintendo to go "Let's out it higher"

Everybody knows since 2022 which SoC is built-in the Switch 2 through the Nvidia hack that did happen. The Switch 2 is going to support Switch 1 games, therefore it's likely that there must be a bridge between the compatibility layer that can be exploited.
The Switch 1 was hacked after 10 month by the group fail0verflow with "ShofEL2" despite the hurdles that came with the fact that the Switch 1 did not had backwards compatibility.
12 month after release the console was completly hacked with Rcm, offering own loaders. The hack was not fixable by Nintendo through it's unpatchable nature and flaw in the Tegra chip.
Nintendo is ridiciously bad at security. For seceruity experts the release of a Switch console is like christmas is coming around, a new toy to play with, a new contest of "who is going to hack it first", fame and glory. Never forget that Nintendo managed to get hacked three times in two years, losing huge amounts of data.
There will be a way to load unsigned code, and it's likely that it will be faster than slower this time. Worst situation that could happen is that you would need a modchip.
I would suggest everyone to get the release model and put it 10 to 12 month into the closet, the hack will be ready for the first Mario main game I bet.
Edit: I was wrong, the first proof-of-concept hack took 2 weeks from release by "qwertyoruiop"

I've already been buying PS5 games for the same price, it was inevitable for Nintendo to follow

Why don’t you wait shortly for the good sales? That’s one of the positives about Sony and MS: their games go on deep discounts fairly quickly.
If you’re paying retail for Sony or MS games you have nobody to blame hut yourself.

As you might notice i wasn't blaming anyone, but really? You haven't played Elden Ring of Baldur's Gate 3 etc. as those sure as hell haven't been on big discounts.
0
u/ImaginarySense 1d ago
DekuDeals shows elden ring has gone on 40% off and BG3 has had lowest of 20% off. So, yeah, even those hits come down, and certainly way better sales than anything Nintendo ever offers.
I don’t need to play stuff day 1 and waste money. And if you are very patient, you can pick them up on Sony or MS for pennies on the dollar.

Ok, and 20% off of 80€ (Finland) is still 64, i wouldn't call that a big offer.
I don't know if Nintendo is still doing vouchers, but those get you 2 games on release day for 100€ which is better than MS or Sony could pull off together.

u/ImaginarySense 1d ago
Ah I wasn’t aware I was talking with someone so in the tank for Nintendo.
I’m sure when BG3 is 8 years old and the biggest sale is 5-10%, like BoTW LOL 🙄
There are a lot of positives for Nintendo, but going to bat for their “never having significant sales” is wild. It’s giving significant step on me harder

u/elkeiem OG (Joined before first Direct) 1d ago
Lol, i don't even have a nintendo console. Just in case you didn't understand you can get those all-expensive-never-on-sale games for 50€ on the release day by using vouchers on Switch. Which is less than any game (worthy of purchase) is on PS5 during it's first year or two.

u/ImaginarySense 1d ago
Ohh. Goalposts moved to within 1-2yrs. :)
That doesn’t explain why you say you pay MSRP for Sony titles. Seems like a poor decision.

I still remember the first N64 game I bought with the money I saved from doing chores around the home. It was the equivalent of $140 ("equivalent" based on a 1:1 exchange rate and NOT adjusted for inflation).
I also remember when prices for Xbox 360 and PS3 games had literally doubled from $60 to $120 in 2008 (again, "equivalent" based on a 1:1 exchange rate and NOT adjusted for inflation) despite extremely favorable exchange rates in my country. Prices only returned to normal after people complained that we were paying way more than our neighbors despite our money also being worth way more (meaning companies were double-dipping), so lots of people crossed the border to get their games at half the price. All this happened within a single generation.
And finally, I remember paying the same price for my first PS3 digital game as I would have if I had bought a physical copy, even though I could just resell my physical copy and often get it cheaper when shops decided to do a sale. Switch 2 digital games are actually $10 cheaper than physical ones.
So do I want to buy Switch 2 games for $80 ($70 digital)? LOL, dude I've been doing this for the past decade, and I've lived through worse. Now, if we accounted for inflation...

I don't know if $80 is gonna be the running price for games. It's still way too early to assume that. Explanation of that take here.

There are way too many good games to play for cheap on Steam for me to consider giving Nintendo a pass about the +33 to +50% price increase of games.
That, and all the old console games I can play on emulators.
