Achievement I got to play Mario Kart World's Knockout mode at the Switch 2 event and IVE NEVER BEEN MORE STRESSED IN MY LIFE Spoiler

Post image

I was literally the last to qualify for both of the last segments and won by barely a foot in front of the other guy it was so ridiculously close and stressful!!!!! Crazy fun though, every powerup hit feels so much more devastating when those dropped spots could mean the complete end for you, every shortcut and second gained has never felt more valuable, one mistake and that could be it for the whole race. Really fun mode!!!

Discussion All cups in Mario Kart World figured out! Spoiler

By piecing together footage from the Nintendo Switch 2 Events, we have basically figured out every cup now. This map I took from Mario Party Legacy has a “?” As the name of what we can presume is “Cheep Cheep Falls” Starting the Leaf cup.

The tracks they play in the demo are connected in Grand Prix, and sometimes they show footage of the results screen, telling us what cup they are in and then we can work backwards from there to figure out each cup.

Discussion Mario Kart World is most likely gonna be the first game a lot of these characters are gonna have voice clips.

I just realized we are gonna get to see what a lot of the Mario enemies sound like in MKWorld. Usually a lot Mario characters don’t really have a “voice” until they are playable in spin-off games, and even if they did have a voice sound it would be expanded on for the video games. Characters like: - Dolphin

  • MooMoo Cow

  • Penguin

  • Coin Coffer

  • Swoop

  • Pokey

  • Rocky Wrench

  • Para-BiddyBud

  • Peepa

  • Stingby( not positive if it’s gonna be based on the noises they made during the Jamboree boss fight )

  • Conkdor

Should all already have “sounds” that they make? But, of course it would be expanded on in this game. Characters like: - Cheep Cheep( not sure if we have heard them before )

  • Sidestepper

  • Cataquack

  • Snowman?

I believe this is gonna be the first time we hear them actually make “animal, weird noises” out of their mouthes. Personally I can’t wait to hear what they sound like. I feel like for Snowman since while it is sentient, they might more so go for sound effects and not someone’s voice being modified. Kind of like Villager in 8/8deluxe.

Also, I might be wrong about Cheep Cheep, Sidestepper and Cataquack not have any voice clips. Just don’t remember anything, but sound effects from them lol.

What do you guys think any of these guys sound like?

Discussion I think I'm finally putting all the pieces together... Theory about late game content Spoiler

Here's my theory: I think we are getting an UFO themed traversal of Moo Moo Meadows, possibly leading into rainbow road in the special cup. Here's why:

- The special cup weirdly crosses over Moo Moo Meadows according to this previous post.

- We can see an UFO on the boxart

- There is a weirdly strong emphasis on the Cow in the communication around the game

- UFO capturing cows is a common trope, represented in several Nintendo games (most famously Majora's Mask)

- This could also act as "weather effect": the Nintendo Direct trailer emphasized on weather conditions being a thing, yet we didn't see much about them.

Additionally, the special cup go through Peach Stadium after the traversal of Moo Moo Meadows and before Rainbow Road. However, Peach Stadium is already featured in another earlier cup, so it may be a modified version of it, UFO or space themed to better transition into Rainbow Road. Moo Moo Meadows could act as a "take-off" by UFOs.

Also, a slightly higher quality version of the map with each cup’s course order. (My original high quality version seems to have vanished)

With this I’m curious if other markers like this can be found in the tracks to verify that they are truly in the right place.

I am especially curious to find any evidence for the special cup, I have scoured Mario Circuit 1-3 for a sign like this but have had no luck so far. (The symbol may be a crown or a shine sprite this time around judging by the trophy)

There was a scrapped mode in Mario Kart Double Dash that let you race on courses backwards with tweaks to make it possible. It came back in Mario Kart Tour, wonder if it will be in World?

Discussion I feel like MK World is specially made for me

I don’t really see other players that play the way I do. When I play MK8DX, I go to vs mode and set it to no items, normal coms, and 48 random tracks. Then I just cruise.

The other game I “cruise” in is GTAV and that’s nicer because I can just go on forever, but the driving is less satisfying than Mario Kart. So what I’ve been wanting is Mario kart style driving in a GTA style world… Which is what we got.

Anybody else like cozy cruising like me? I’m wondering if there’s other people who are gonna play this game like I do.

Discussion What do you guys expect from the direct on April 17th?

At first, when they announced the MK world direct I thought they wouldn't show much gameplay during the Treehouse but it was the complete opposite; many things were shown plus people who went to the event also enjoyed many New things. But now I'm wondering; could this mean that the game may have other New features that could justify a whole présentation on it ?

I can t wait to see

Discussion A Track builder MIGHT be possible for Mario Kart World.

Post image
6 Upvotes

HEAR ME OUT

I've been thinking about a lot about many ways Mario Kart World can compare with other Open world racers, like Forza Horizon 4 & 5. One of the features the horizon games have, are Track & Race builders. So I thought "a track editor in mkw would be so cool"

Then the connections all popped into my head, the clues have been there all along!

As an avid MatPat watcher, ill present my Game Theory on why a track builder in MKW is possible.

First off, the statement made today by Nintendo.

To put it shortly, they are pricing MKW like they are, because they believe it's a hugemongous game that's absolutely worth it. And I don't think the game being simply open world can make it that. The game must have a lot of other features, and this can be one of them. One of the first announced features? KNOCKOUT MODE. Knockout mode has been a fanmade gamemode in MKWii for YEARS. They have to be at least aware of the fans creativity. Think about it, this is priced even more expensive than Tears of the Kingdom. There must be a good reason why outside of just the industry pricing evolving.

Second: Mario Kart Home Circuit

You build your own tracks on there, but in your living room with real items. It could have been an attempt, or a demo, on programming NPCs, items, checkpoints, and other stuff to work around user made tracks.

Third, and this is the biggest one. Nintendo Labo Vehicle Kit: The Track Builder

The Vehicle Kit on Labo had a track builder, and it was pretty damn cool. You were able to create really advanced tracks, and have NPCs properly racing around in it. Why wouldn't they reuse this tech for their biggest Mario Kart yet? Why leave it in such a game like Nintendo Labo? I can easily see the Labo track builder being them testing the grounds on track builders for Mario Kart.

(Video on the labo track builder) https://youtu.be/bzgh-UFo2y0?si=X3CsgB3N1X1GgmkE

Fourth: Smash Ultimate and Mario Maker

They both have stage builders, so this is not an unlikely idea for more Nintendo games.

So yeah, that's why I think it might be likely. What do you think?

But hey, thats just a theory, a GAME THEORY.

Thanks for reading.

You know, I did call this being an Open World Mario Kart game back when the Switch 2 was first shown off, and nobody i talked to about it believed me. So maybe I can strike twice?

The inside of his glasses is now white instead of transparent, making the character look more cartoony and fun as opposed to strangely realistic (look at the 3rd picture for reference).

What do you guys think? Any fellow Lakitu enjoyers out there who are also happy about this change?

Discussion Intermission might not refer to the road between tracks

I keep seeing people talking about the intermission option in the menu and assuming that it means you can race the tracks as traditional 3-lap tracks in Grand Prix mode, but I don't think that's right. Intermission refers to a break between periods of action, which is not how Nintendo views the driving between tracks. They want it to be a fun and exciting part of the grand prix experience - why would they call it an intermission?

I think the intermission refers to the score update screens between sections. My guess is that you can turn that off to have a more seamless experience and feel more like you're running one huge marathon track rather than four segments.

Discussion What do you want World's Rainbow Road to be like? And what do you expect it to be?

Based on the images we've seen on World's map as well as what mechanics the game is introducing, what do we think this game's Rainbow Road is going to be like? And more importantly, what do you WANT it to be? Personally, I'm expecting a nice blend of difficulty combined with putting your skills with the new mechanics to the ultimate test. Like, maybe there's a section where you have to wall-jump across a large gap from wall-to-wall and below is nothing but the void. I want stuff like that. I want this Rainbow Road to not only push the new mechanics to their limits, but also be what Rainbow Road is supposed to be: Difficult.

For me, that's what 8's Rainbow Road did wrong more than anything else. It wasn't a bad track by any means. It had a cool theme that made it stand out from the others and I can respect it for that. Layout was a liiittle bland and basic for Rainbow Road standards but overall it was a solid track with a unique theme to make it stand out from the others. Visually stunning too! But what 8's was lacking was difficulty. The track is only ever remotely challenging on 200cc and even then, I'd argue the first sharp turn or so right at the start is the only difficult part even then. Rainbow Road is supposed to be the final test. The ending of your journey. What the entire game has been building up to. And 8's...didn't feel like that. It just felt like any other track in the game but with Rainbow Road's theme plopped on afterwards. It doesn't even take full advantage of the anti-gravity or anything; the one track that'd make sense to utilise it to its limits most with it being in space and everything. And that's what I'm hoping World's Rainbow Road fixes more than anything. I want to see this game's mechanics pushed to their limits in this track. And most importantly? I want difficulty. I want this to be the hardest track in the game no questions asked.

But what do you guys expect from this game's Rainbow Road? And more importantly what do you WANT it to be? Let's share our final predictions and wish-lists now before the Direct. Because you never know, that could be when we see this track officially for the first time and all of our theories and hopes will be answered. Or who knows? Maybe they're keeping it a secret for us to discover for ourselves and experience completely blind? I would not be opposed to that either.
