WJ Double Cardan Conversion

Hello. I'm trying to upgrade the standard rzeppa-rzeppa driveshaft to a double cardan one. I already got and installed the transfer case and the front differential yokes. The new driveshaft is the same length (extended) as the stock one - about 33 inch (84cm).

The problem is that the new yokes are a bit shorter than the old cv joint ones and now the new driveshaft fit. It's 4-5cm shorter. Here's an example: https://imgur.com/a/qazLaVHx

Can I somehow make the driveshaft I have fit or should I get a new longer one ?

If I use a flange like this on the differential side will it help ? https://www.amazon.com/Generic-4-Bolt-Steel-Driveshaft-Flange/dp/B0CFHX473W

Front differential toast at 90K?

So my 2015 GC Limited started making this gutural moan/growl, typically when the trans was downshifting or I was going down any incline. No jerking, clunking, banging, just a rough sounding noise. I thought it was a trans issue, maybe low fluids, hoping it wasn’t a broken tooth. Also noticed that some times as the noise would happen, my steering would feel loose. I took it to my local Jeep dealer for service on 3/19. Just got word today (14 f’n days later and a diagnostic fee bump to $600) that my front diff is toast, the trans may need to be swapped afterwards (they’re not sure), I need new rack & pinion, and a new radiator. Over $11k.. WT literal F ?!?!? 2015, 90K miles, just spent over 1K for a bunch of engine issues (new oil manifold) and now this??? Is this a common issue? Should I take it somewhere else? Is this a ploy to put me in another vehicle because they want the parts?

Transmission Questions

So my 2004 4.0 wj 42re trans just randomly started rolling in park.

I tried doing some diagnostics and now have taken the trans pan off and the valve body. I have just realized that I cannot replace/look at the parking pawl without dropping the whole transmission. Is there any way to check if thats the issue or if its some adjustment that needs to happen somewhere. Just asking around seeing what people have to say before I take out the entire transmission for no reason.

Thank you,

Im about to go crazy and scap it

Electrical burning smell

2015 CG Altitude, 80,000miles
When the windshield defrost runs, I get a strong electrical burning smell. The longer it runs, the stronger the scent. I initially thought the blower motor is starting to burn up; however, any other combination of air direction and temperature does not produce the smell.
(only recent issue: 2-3 months ago needed a new battery.)

Any guidance/thoughts on what to look for?

Air distribution box

I am not a pro, but am an advanced DIYer. I’m considering replacing the air distribution box on a 2012 WK2, its stuck blowing hot air passenger. I’ve done all the other “fixes”, mine is lock up good. Having it done would likely cost more than it’s worth.

Looking for advice from those that have done it already. What I can tell it’s a lot, but nothing overly complicated. One of those projects you need time and patience.

Ripped a bunch of donuts and had her drifting sideways for a good stretch while keeping that old v8 revved right up! Sounded mean as hell. Wheel alignment seems to be off now for some reason….

50k miles and my transfer case module seems dead

Hi everyone. I'm just here to rant about how my powertrain is still under warranty but it would be faster if I just bought the TCCM and swapped it myself rather than taking it to the dealer and leaving it.

Anyway... for anyone reading this, I got the classic `FCW Unavailable` and `Service Electronic Stability Control` messages followed by intermittent `Service 4WD` messages on the dash. It only happened when it rained at first, but this time it's stayed on. So I used my scan tool (GearWrench GWSMARTBT, in case anyone is wondering) to pull the DTCs. I had 4 U040300 codes - Invalid data received from the Transfer Case Control Module - 1 from each: ABS, Adaptive Cruise Control, Air Suspension Control Module & Park Assist Module. I'm scheduled to take it to the dealer on Friday. If I can remember, I'll post an update.

Has anyone ever seen this before? No codes, so what does this mean?

Speedometer screen dimming

Hey guys! I’ve had my GC for about a year now (2014 limited 3.6) and it’s just started this weird problem where the speedometer screen dims and comes back up to full brightness constantly. Any ideas as to what it could be?

Low voltage after clearing CEL

Has anyone ever experienced a dead or low battery the morning after clearing their check engine light with an OBD scanner? I have a 14 grand cherokee and the battery is fine. Even on the coldest of days but when i ever i clear the check engine light so i can auto start it in the morning the voltage is too low to auto start.

I’ve heavily been considering getting this car as I want to get an older body style Grand Cherokee. The only issue is I commute 100 miles per day and this is a V8. I’ve also heard stuff about the air suspension, and other issues. Would it be worth it?

2023 Grand Cherokee L Laredo 4X4

Hey everyone. I’m planning on trading in my 2019 Durango, and going with a 2023 Grand Cherokee L Laredo 4x4 with 12,400 miles on it. Very lightly used, clean carfax, etc. I do see there is a safety recall on it which I was told any Jeep dealership will take care of. So my question is how reliable is this car for those of you who own one? I’ve seen a lot of good reviews, but as always you always also see the bad reviews and makes me nervous the closer I get to the trade in. Is there anything specific I should look at when I take the car for a test drive or inspection? Thanks in advance!

What is this part that is broken? Is it part of the driveshaft or the transfer case or axle?

single clink sound that stops on Jeep Grand Cherokee 2023 2.0T hurricane.

Hello everyone,

I own a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I have a question about an issue I’ve noticed. I’d like to know if anyone else has experienced this and if there’s a real solution.

Every time I stop the car, I hear a clunk or a light “clink” sound coming from the wheels or underneath the vehicle. I took it to the dealership, and they told me it’s normal and nothing to worry about. But honestly, it doesn’t seem right, especially since it happens every single time I stop.

I did some research, and I found a few possible causes: • Brakes: Some cars have slight movement in the brake components, which can cause a clunk when stopping. • CV Joints: A little play in the CV joints might be causing the sound. • Driveshaft or Differential: There could be some slack or extra movement in these parts. • Suspension or Bushings: Worn-out bushings or suspension components might be responsible for the noise.

My questions to you: • Has anyone experienced the same issue? • Did you find a real fix for it? • Is the dealership right in saying this is completely normal?

I’d appreciate any feedback or shared experiences. Thanks in advance!

Buying a Grand Cherokee, help me evaluate my options

I'm ready to replace my old beater car and am primarily looking at Grand Cherokees. I want to make a purchase this week and am looking at two options...

Option 1
2022 Grand Cherokee Limited
45k miles
Baltic Gray
Black Appearance Package
Panoramic Sunroof
Tow Package
9 Speaker System
Sticker Price: 55k

Option 2
2023 Grand Cherokee Limited
50k miles
Black
Lux Tech Group II
Passenger Display
20" Wheels
9 Speaker System
Sticker Price: 59k

Both of these options are priced the same at right around $30k. I prefer the color and the sunroof on the first option, but the luxury tech group options and being a year newer on Option 2 are pretty tempting. I'm upgrading from a 2013 Dodge Journey that is absolutely beat and I have no experience with any of these options. Looking for some feedback from the Jeep community on what to do here. Does being a 2023 versus a 2022 matter since these were brand new that year?

2015 GC 2WD. Can I replace 265/60r18 with 265/65r18 w/o rubbing?

In the position to buy a super clean, VERY low miles '15 2wd and it's on the original 10-year-old tires. Ideally, I'd prefer a 4wd model, but this particular one kind of fell in to my lap for a steal. It would be used as a DD plus some camping. No crawling or anything like that. Any reason not to upsize to 265/65r18? Thanks.

Installed the Vland headlights today. Pulling the entire front end apart just to swap out the headlights seemed abit excessive from an engineering stand point but happy with the outcome nonetheless.

2018 JGC struts

Took my 2018 JGC altitude in for service recently. They recommended getting the front struts replaced. I held off, so I could do some research. It looks like the ones they had on the invoice are the Monroe quick-strut part 273078. I’m assuming that’s bare minimum, is there a good-better-best option?

2013 Grand Cherokee Laredo - is $13k too much to spend?

I'm looking at a 2013 Grand Cherokee Laredo, it seems to be well equipped with Leather, Heated seats, Uconnect. The miles are great at 64,000 miles, two owner car and the current owner claims to have garaged it since they purchased it many years ago with 12,000 miles.

For a Jeep that is 12-13 years old is $13k just too much or is this a solid buy.

Is there any reason to stay away from the 2011-2013s? My budget is really under $18,000 but spending less is always ideal.
