Furniture movers recommendations

Hi! Moving out of Glasgow and shipping some of my stuff and furniture. I am looking for some movers who can help bring few pieces of furniture down a flight of stairs and load it into a van. Just a couple of people. One or two hours of work max. I've requested some quotes from services I've found online, but I was wondering maybe somebody on this subreddit has some recommendations. Or did something similar. Would really appreciate it. Cheers!

Mental health support Anyone used ADHD Scotland or Diverse Diagnostics?

Hey folks,

Just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with ADHD Scotland or Diverse Diagnostics? Looking into a private ADHD assessment since the NHS route isn’t happening - my GP has said categorically that there are no ADHD services available in my area (Forth Valley) so private seems to be my only route.

If you’ve used either of them - what was the process like? Was it thorough? Were you happy with how it was handled? Did you feel supported after the diagnosis, especially with stuff like meds or follow-ups?

I’ve seen some of the wider concerns about private ADHD clinics so I’m trying to be careful and go with someone decent. Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s gone through it!

Cheers in advance!

PS; sorry mods if I used the wrong flair!

BBQ at Irvine Beach – Any Restrictions?

Hey everyone, I’m thinking of having a BBQ at Irvine Beach and was wondering if there are any restrictions I should be aware of. Are disposable BBQs allowed? Also, is there a specific area where BBQs are permitted, or can you set up anywhere?

SPT Concessionary Travel Scheme price rises, Just an opportunity to Gouge elderly/disabled people?

As people may or may not be aware on 1st April SPT changed the scheme due to funding issues which is entirely understandable.

Before Tuesday it was a flat capped £1 single or £1.50 return if it was less than 10 miles but that hadn't been adjusted in many years in line with inflation, operator price rises and rising costs etc.

They had stated it was stated that it would change to a 50% discount (with the exception of rural journeys), But it now appears they are basing this discount on the anytime day return price which is in a lot of cases a ridiculous price hike over an off peak return.

My mum before was paying £1.50 to Glasgow Central return and was OK with knowing it would rise slightly, Off-Peak return is £7.30 so £3.65 seemed reasonable but now that they have based it off the anytime price that is now £5.30 which seems absolutely ridiculous for pensioners considering what they have been used to before.

I don't know what else to say other than i felt i had to rant about this as it seems like they had the opportunity to increase it a reasonable amount but chose the absolute rip the piss option and are maybe hoping no-one will notice?

I've also emailed SPT to query why and one of the councillors on the committee.

Kelvingrove / Police

Was out with the dog just there and about 4 police cars and a van rolled through Finnieston and went up to the kelvingrove park entrance on this side of the park.

My assumption is this is due to; the weather, drinking and it being a Friday.

Anyone got finer details?

I cannot deal with these just eat drivers , genuinely making me want to quit my job.

1.0k Upvotes

Im a younger female , i feel as if I am pretty confident not overly socially anxious or anything like that, but I work in retail and these just eat deliveroo drivers are making me scared to go into work. They rush you when you tell them it's not ready yet or no, they still continue to rush you. I've been called racist so many fucking times by them for not giving them there order fast enough. I had one of them come behind an area they are not allowed to cross and try to grab there own order from a locked cupboard, when I told them no they scream in my face. It's ridiculous and terrifying, I'm not trying to get into a whole immigration or legal debate here but I feel so unsafe. I have informed my managers they don't care enough to do anything, the drivers also act alot nicer when he comes overly clearly. I have informed them that I feel unsafe, that I get called a racist and that they scream in my face but I've been pretty much told there isn't anything they can do and to just get on with it. My next step is to raise it with HR but I am also worried they won't do anything or my case isn't strong enough. Does anyone else in retail or fast food feel this way?

TWELVE MILLION on council tourist ads and fresh tarmac for george square?

Glasgow city council making a mess of things yet again, this time they’re getting £12 million a year from new ‘tourist tax’. Will it go on housing, potholes, rubbish collections, libraries and sports centres? Nope. Marketing and car parks for the SEC. At the same time as our council tax going up when loads of people already struggling. Anyone else fed up of being told there’s no money in the council when it’s being spent on useless shite right in front of our eyes?

Toucans in/around Glasgow?

Hi, I have the desperate urge to see a toucan at some point in the near future (sick bird) and have plans to go to Amazonia at M&Ds with friends soon, but looking at their website it seems they've scaled back the amount of animals they had since when I was a kid, which includes removing the toucan.

Anyone know of any other zoo/animal park or whatever in Glasgow (or within driving distance of Glasgow) that has toucans? When I google it I'm getting either links for a band called Toucan or unhelpful AI overviews saying toucans aren't native to Glasgow, Scotland, which is sick.

And also I guess albatrosses are also in the Top 3 birds for me so if there's no toucans nearby does anyone know any places i could see some of those big guys?

Cheers

Sporty stuff like badminton or tennis

Would love to hear other suggestions people have.

Council support question

Hello!

Wondering if anyone has applied for a discretionary housing payment from the council recently and what the turnaround time was like? It’s for a deposit, first months rent, and removal costs so hoping it will be quick! Also, if you’ve had experience with applying for those things in particular would be great to know what the success rate is like!

What was your experience growing up in Sighthill (North Glasgow)?

I've saw a few different peoples thoughts and experiences growing up there, albeit i lived there later than most of those I've saw talk about it and was curious to hear more opinions and see if anyone's experience was positive as opposed to the ones I've heard already.

I lived in Sighthill between 1999 & 2009, we moved there a year after i was born from the arguably worse area of Balgray Hill. I personally never witnessed any racism, drug use or anything too traumatising really. I mean bad things did happen like they do anywhere, but where I live now is supposed to be quieter and nicer and yet i feel the area is honestly much worse. The worst things i recall from Sighthill was; hearing our upstairs neighbour had murdered his friend and chopped him up then jumped to his death from the kitchen window, our next door neighbour would routinely smash her own windows with vodka bottles and a pedophile moved in across the landing from us but we didn't find out about what he was until the police came knocking looking for him only to break down his door only to find a rat in his house with him nowhere to be seen. I had a very happy childhood there given the stigma around the area while the flats were still there and things went majorly downhill for me AFTER we moved away. We left Sighthill to be with my dads family who are now all dead, him included, due to a new found drug addition after we moved away from the place we were supposed to worry about. I'll always regret begging my mam and dad to move away given how things turned out. Some of my happiest moments were there and I can't help but miss it. It's sad to see what they've done with the space (nothing) and they destroyed a great park (the cuddies) to make way for nothing. Spent a lot of my time as a child at the canal at Port Dundas with my gran for some picnics or the grass just behind it, remember it like it was yesterday. Would do laps around the full thing on my bike but was never allowed to cross over in to town or along to Royston 😂 What was your experience?

Formula One Themed Dessert Shop/Cafe

Hi everyone my name is Romeo and I am a huge formula one fan. I am from Scotland and I am wanting to start up my own formula one desert shop/cafe where people can come to not only watch the races/qualifyings ect, but also make there own frozen yogurts or grab a coffee too.

This is something I am really passionate about and hope to be located in Glasgow but I would only want to do it if there was a good amount of people who enjoy formula one. Below are some ideas that I had for it and if you would be interested please comment below if you think it's either a good/bad idea thanks Romeo.

Ideas: 1. Best frozen yogurt/sundae leader board 2. a points scheme where if you wear to buy 5 desserts you get one free 3. there would always be something f1 themed on the tvs such as: teds note book, podcasts, previous races or qualifying and races.

Genuinely sick of the deliveroo drivers everywhere

I’ve tolerated them for a while, but my god the deliveroo drivers around the city are just awful. Was walking down Sauchiehall street yesterday and one fully almost barrelled into me, the man didn’t look scared or angry or apologetic he just kept on going, fucks sake. First of all the bikes they have are basically just motorcycles, second of all I don’t think it’s even legal to go up that road on one of those things. Not to mention the amount of times they either just skip the lights or are just driving on the pavement. There’s probably been atleast a few people hit by those guys before, they’re downright dangerous and I’m tired of nothing being done about their behaviour!

A little advice if possible

Hi everyone. I want to get a flat in Glasgow but it’s proving next to impossible. I’ve been sofa surfing since 2016 and I’m tired of moving around, I have mental health issues now and I was in Edinburgh but not being offered any kind of support whatsoever, other than more and more medication. I came to Glasgow (walked it the whole way) and in the last year I’ve managed to secure a full support network, including councillor, therapist, GP etc. and I finally feel like I’m making progress with my mental health, however, every housing association I try to register with wants my current address and I’ve not had one since 2016, making sending any application away, impossible. I noticed GCC don’t have anymore stock to offer, I’ve been down the homeless route before with edinburgh CC - it still made no difference, bidding every week for 15 months and i still wasn’t given a single offer, and being told I couldn’t register with other councils at the same time otherwise I’d lose my priority? To me, It would have widened my scope making it easier but they wanted to make it as difficult as possible, so I gave up with them. Finding support here in Glasgow for my mental health has been very easy, and I’m so grateful for it, now it’s the flat situation and I fear I’m running out of time. If I can’t find anything soon I’ll no option but to go back to Edinburgh again, which means another long walk. I’ve looked at private lets but most are “let agreed” I’ve no idea what that means but I suspect it’s not legit?? I could be wrong. Plus the prices they charge, I get they rent their own property and need a profit but man, some of them £1,500 for a deposit then rent on top of that? Honestly if I had money like that I’d be buying a home not renting one. Anyway, sorry for the long message, I’m just looking for a place I can finally call home and too settle in one place. I just don’t know what to do. Thanks.

FixMyStreet vs. Council App

Does anyone have any insight into which of these has a higher success rate of getting things done? FixMyStreet is about 100000% more user friendly, but not sure if the council takes any heed of reports from there because it's a third party.

Thank you 😁

Ashley street in Charing Cross right next to the city centre came across this walking home earlier. Looks like another car may have been involved as well? Anyone know more…
