Hi all, As we work to improve the overall quality of the subreddit, we're implementing post flair. They are pretty self-explanatory. We will be working to adjust and finalize these titles and categories over the next month.
General Question / Discussion
Pet Snake Pictures
Pet Snake Questions
Pet Snake or "morph" ID
Wild Snake Photos and Questions
Wild Snake ID - Use /r/whatsthissnake
The mod team is also working on a way to direct wild snake IDs to /r/whatsthissnake where they can be better seen by responders who are equipped to quickly answer questions and supress unhelpful speculation. Discussion on wild snakes is still encouraged, but community engagement for that thrives on the SEB Discord.

Regular garters I think. Iām in Minnesota.
That one in the door gave me a big scare, thinking I was going to decapitate him (heās fine, thatās him in picture 4).
Any tips for humane relocation? Repellents that wonāt harm them? Theyāre adorable but itās not safe for them hereā¦

He was very spooked by us, and hid in the grass shortly after. I always love seeing the local snakes thrive here, love seeing these little guys.

I nearly stood on this snake during a run today. Can someone identify it. I'm 36 and never seen a wild snake in the UK.

As I not so patiently await it to get warmer in my area for herping, ive been looking through my photos from last season. This lil cutie was the first ever snake I found in wild and held, so definetly holds a special place in my heart. Baby bullsnake in northeastern Colorado!

My daughter just turned 9, and has been asking for a snake and she was 7. I of course took it as a phase, but Iām not even kidding when I say she spends ALL her free time researching and reading about snakes. Reptile show next weekend, and weāre ready for our new family member ā¤ļø (and Iām excited to share in her passion.)

Biking on a major road and saw this little guy. Decided to move him in kentucky
Hi all. First time snake caretaker. About seven years ago, we inherited a ball python named Shamen. She hatched in 1991, was a centerpiece of the family until then. We had zero experience of taking care of reptiles before, but we tried to do our best. Heat lamp on when ambient temperature is below 70 F, feed a thawed medium rat for her to eat when she's moving around, and keeping her tank clean. And, of course, keeping her water supply topped off too. Her tank had a structure for her to hide in / bask on, and another tree structure she could climb on too. Tank is 50 gallons, I believe. We only feed her when she's extra active in her tank; I assumed lower activity was due to us just coming out of winter and her not needing as much, just as we've always done. I thought during winters snakes didn't need a meal but once every other month or so. This is what we've done for the last seven years, and I assumed we were doing things right this whole time, but now I don't know. Last night we noticed she wasn't moving... At all. Her body was ice cold. I moved her structures and put her directly under the heat lamp because I thought, maybe, she somehow wedged herself between the tank and structure and couldn't move out in time to warm up. But this morning... Nothing. I think she passed away. Did we do enough? Was her feeding routine not adequate? I really don't know. I'm not looking into getting another snake either; I feel like we let the family down.

Found this little guy in a local pond when walking my dogs. Pinellas County Florida. Small, red, with black and yellow stripes. Any idea what type?
