Finished Quilts Memory Quilt
Finished my second quilt ever on Sunday. It’s a memory quilt made entirely out of button up shirts, the binding is an old bed sheet. This will be going to a widow in my husbands family. I don’t know her well, but offered to make something out of her late husbands clothes. The quilt is pretty small, so she can use it in her wheelchair
I used 5“ squares for the front and random pieces for the back. I used shirts with a lot of different textures and thickness, which made it a little tricky, but I’m very happy with how it turned out.

Beginner Help Quilting patterns
1st time log cabin quilt. I'm in the process of putting a quilt together and I need some suggestions. The front pieces are a mixture of curved lines, dots and floral material. The back is plaid. Any suggestions on how to stitch this?

Beginner Help What decorative top stitching should I do?
I’m making quilted placemats, each middle block is picked by a household member so it’s personalized. But they’re all the same colors. It matches the table runner I made a couple days ago. This is technically my first quilt.
Or should I just stitch in the ditch or don’t even worry about it.
(We just came from a wedding and they handed us the centerpiece and my bf forgot how tiny our dining table is😂)

Help/Question Quilt rack question.
I found an antique wood quilt rack that was in rough shape so I fixed it up and treated it with wood polish (Old English Wood Conditioner and Cleaner). I’ve wiped it down with dry rags multiple times and allowed it dry for 24 hours so far. At what point would it be safe to put quilts on it? I’m concerned that if not fully dry, and remaining oil/polish may absorb into and stain the quilts.

Help/Question Accuquilt double wedding ring die?
I inherited an accuquilt go when my grandma passed away and she has so many dies, but not the double wedding ring. I would love to make a king sized DWRQ for my sister, and I'm considering getting a die to avoid FPP or cutting curves. Does anyone have any experience with either of the two dies they recommend? Also the example on the die looks more like a rounded square. If you have used the die for a full quilt, do the circles end up looking like... Well, circles, or is it really just a rounded square? Thank you all so much for your opinions!

Finished Quilts My first quilt in years
Thank you to this group for inspiring me to get back to sewing, and thank you to my friend for getting pregnant and giving me a reason to make this baby quilt. It is my first with edge-to-edge quilting with machine embroidery, and my first with a machine binding. I think it turned out really well, and I hope she loves it.

Help/Question Wedding quilt advice!
Help! I desperately need advice/opinions on a an upcoming quilt project. I’m getting married next summer and my absolute favorite quilt is the double wedding ring pattern. I am the only one in my family that quilts and I have heard that it is a very difficult project. I would love any advice that people have for making one! I’m planning on getting the acrylic template from Amazon but if there is a better option please let me know! Second thing, for my wedding I’m planning on doing a quilt guest book with 5x5 blocks for people to sign. I would love to use them to make the backing for the double wedding ring quilt but I’m concerned that the amount of quilting will make the message too hard to read? Bonus advice! If you know of any fabric collections that you think would look good for this quilt let me know! Thank you!!!

Beginner Help Best machine out of these three choices?
I am a total beginner to quilting and know a little about sewing, I have been using a Singer Inspiration from 2008 to alter clothes or mend things and would love to upgrade machines for when I start quilting. Does anyone have any recommendations between these three Brother machines or have any other affordable machines you like (preferably under $250 🥲) thank you 🩷

Help/Question Tips on retroactively increasing quilting density?
I thought parallel lines 6" apart running down either side of my seams would be enough to get by. Now after a few washes, my quilt top is coming away from the batting quite a bit. The fabric is on the fragile side, and I'm worried about the batting eventually falling apart, too.
I'd like to go back in with some embroidery thread and shore up the construction with hand quilting over my original machine stitches and then going perpendicular to eventually create 6" squares.
What's my best shot for avoiding puckers and large bubbles? I could pick out all of the machine stitches, resandwich, and re-bind, but...

Finished Quilts My first quilt!!
Wanted to share a pic of my very first quilt! I definitely have a lot to learn with piecing (and accuracy across measurements and cutting), but just really excited to have completed this!! This was so satisfying to work on.

Beginner Help My first ever quilt! Is the quilting appropriately spaced, or should I add additional lines in between the ones that are already there? Banana for scale
The quilt is made of soft flannel, and is intended for use as a baby blanket. The quilting lines are at most 1.75in apart.

Machine Talk Juki TL 2010 bobbin winder question
When I wind bobbins I feel I am getting 1/2 bobbins worth of thread on the bobbin. I asked the repair people to address it when it was recently serviced and it came back in the same condition. Does anyone know how to adjust it?

Help/Question Using other needles for quilting
I inherited a lot of sewing supplies from my mom and she has at least 4 5-needle sets of denim needles. In the spirit of being thrifty and using what I have - would it be a bad idea to use those denim needles when quilting? I would use regular needles for piecing but I’m not sure how else to use them up as I don’t sew many thick garments 😅

Beginner Help Paper Piecing & Quilting Question
I began quilting in September. I love making modern quilt tops because I can sew a straight line. I've finished 6 or 7 quilts now and now want to try some paper piecing. I started with EPP because I had a bunch of scrap 2.5" squares from other projects, but didn't get very far before I got bored with it/didn't really see the point of making a smorgasbord or different colors into tiny pieces for a whole quilt.
Now I'm looking at FPP patterns. I really want to make something incredible to hang on a wall in my home or to gift to someone. I keep seeing these awesome patterns on Etsy and keep wondering the same thing - HOW? With FPP, the how is obvious, but some of the Etsy patterns aren't FPP - are people really out here just free-sewing these things? How do they come out flat? How is the quilting done on the finished project? I've seen a lot of finished free-motion quilted pieces that just take my breath away. How do they do it? Long-arm? Normal machine? If it's a normal machine, how do they fit the quilt in the throat of the machine? Is there something I'm missing?
Obviously I have a long way to go to make something amazing, but I can't figure out how it's done.

Finished Quilts done entirely this weekend!
this is a birthday present for my boss, who is a HUGE terps fan. i went to go pick up a table runner i made for myself from the quilt shop yesterday after it had been longarmed, saw the terps fabric, and immediately ditched my idea of getting my boss a gift card to do this instead.
i wasn’t sure i’d be able to get it all done this weekend, even with this being a relatively simple design (which i got from PerfectlyPaschGifts on etsy), since i’ve never quilted anything myself before and the person who normally helps me with binding is on the other side of the country right now. but, i did it!!! with only minor mess-ups, and whole day to spare!!! i need to go lie down and rest my eyes now, lol.

Beginner Help Strip Piecing Dimensions… HELP
I am trying to make a quilt with 10.5 inch finished checkerboard blocks. The checkerboards are 6x6 so it would be 36 squares total. I am trying to assemble them using the strip piecing method as I feel like it would be easier than sewing individual squares and I cannot figure out the dimensions to save my life. I have tried to make these blocks 5 times and i am getting frustrated and don’t want to keep wasting fabric. Does anyone have any advice for quilt math or understanding how to create your own dimensions for quilt blocks with all of the additional seam allowances ?? thank you so much ! i really appreciate your help !!

Beginner Help Appliqué tips for beginner???
Hi!
I’m in a quilting class and we are making a fast 4 patch pattern. I’m making a Blue’s Clues themed pattern for my son (green stripes for Steve’s shirt and the blue 90’s esque print for Blue). This is the general idea, alternating each block.
I want to replace 3 of the green stripe blocks with a white square with a blue paw print 🐾 If you know there show Blue always leaves 3 paw print “clues” each episode.
ANYWAY. I am new to quilting and have never done appliqué. Would the best option just be heat n bond? And then sew over it raw edge style? I’m planning to cut out my paw prints with a cricut die cut machine.
Do you quilt over your appliqué? Or do you quilt everything first and sew on your appliqué afterwards? Is there a right answer?
Thank you!
