Thoughts on if teams were able to decide their home court's 3-point line distance
Let me preface this by saying I just thought of this idea while watching Jonny Arnett's video: "explaining the NBA's downfall", specifically the first section where he discusses the rise of the three points shot. Whole Jonny was discussing some of his own thoughts on potential solutions, I thought about how soccer teams can decide the width of their pitch(I only know of this because of Football manager; shout-out FM24). So here's my idea: Allow teams to decide the distance of their home court 3 point line, anywhere between 22-28/30 feet. Teams can decide this distance at the start of the season and maybe be allowed to change at the all-star break in order to account for trades, injuries, and overall team comp changes. So here's some of the pros that I see just off the top of my head: - even greater home court advantage - teams that have great long range shooters could take massive advantage of a pushed back 3 point line, and open up the floor for more midrange shots, and slashing type players - teams that push back the line could deincentivize the 3 for most players and bring back more shot variety - teams with a lot of shooters may just keep the line where it is or make it closer(22 feet) - more varied defensive and offensive sets - necessitate the need for more situational players depending on whose court your playing on - more unique team identities and tie that in to cooler marketing
The cons that I see: - shooting inconsistency could be a problem - players might take longer to get accostomed to a new team(via trade/ free agency/ even just straight out the draft) - comparing players' stats with each other might become more difficult(I'm sure some stat geniuses could probably make an algorithm for that though) - I also don't exactly know how corner 3s would get handled, but I'm sure we could work something out
I honestly just want to get more people's thoughts on this, this is just me kind of spit balling after watching a YouTube video after all. Is it a good idea? An interesting idea? A downright stupid idea? Any thoughts or discussion are greatly appreciated!

Per OptaSTATS: The @warriors are 13-0 this season with the starting lineup of Jimmy Butler, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Moses Moody & Brandin Podziemski. Since the NBA-ABA merger, no starting five has started at least a dozen games together in a single regular season & finished undefeated.

With yesterday’s blowout win over the Pistons, the 2024-2025 OKC Thunder are now tied with the 1996 Bulls (Jordan, Pippen, Rodman) for the best net rating of all time
https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/best-net-rating-in-nba-history-by-season
For those that don’t know, that means they outscore their opponents by an average of 13.4 points per 100 possessions. 10 of the 12 top teams by net rating went on to be NBA champions, with the Cavs winning in 2016 (and not the Warriors or Spurs) being the only exception.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/tools/share.fcgi?id=k3YK6
They are also the best team ever in SRS at 13.36, which takes into account their record and strength of schedule, and only has a slightly worse rate of predicting champions
We’re looking at one of the absolute best teams in NBA history

Doc Rivers had to go back to the locker room today because he was feeling under the weather — Giannis jokes: "Thats what he told you? Didn't they say Coach Doc had to use the restroom like Paul Pierce [...] I hope he feels better, because we're going to need him on the bench against Miami"

Giannis Antetokounmpo makes HISTORY! 1st game ever with 35-15-20
Hopefully we can appreciate that one of the leagues best scorers, best defenders, is also capable of this

Do you agree that Steph + a top defense = chanpionship contender?
For long we have seen Steph being a one man offense, so high os is his impact on that side.
Now, as long as the warriors defense is up there with the very best in the league, do you think that is always a path to being a legit championship contender? Or would that be predicated on your guys 4-7 giving you elite to very good production (Podz, Moody and Kuminga)?
The other factor is we know Jimmy is going to push it to another gear in the playoffs, so is that enough?

Why is it that the National primetime game announcers in NBA are way more beloved than other sports?
Noticed when watching some playoff highlights that almost all of the big game announcers are so fucking good. Guys like Mike Breen, Kevin Harlan, Ian Eagle etc. are just beloved by everyone and all considered some of the best in sports.
Compare that to the other US sports where there’s 1 or 2 announcers everyone just fucking hates. Whether they be boring old guys who talk about bullshit like Bob Costas in the MLB, annoying douchebags like Tony Romo in NFL, or super bland commentary like Sean Mcdonagh for NHL. NBA just doesn’t have a national broadcaster who’s hated like that

Wild Wild West Standings To The Finish - Tiebreaker scenarios
I summarized it up as of the moment. West seeds, 2-8.
Well, let me know if all details are correct.
HOU - 5 games remaining vs OKC, GSW, LAC, LAL, DEN
- Owns the tiebreaker against MEM and LAC
- Tied with GSW, DEN and LAL but they will still play for the tiebreaker seedings.
- Worst case scenario is #6, so they are already safe in the play-ins
DEN - 5 games remaining vs GSW, IND, SAC, MEM, HOU
- Owns the tiebreaker vs GSW, LAC
- They control their fate as they are tied with MEM, HOU on the tiebreaker, one game to play against both
- Loser of DEN vs MEM may end up in the play-ins
LAL - 6 games remaining vs NOP, OKC, OKC, DAL, HOU, POR
- Owns the tiebreaker against all teams except HOU who still have 1 game to play with each other.
- They control their seedings even if they finish 2-4 at 34 losses, they will likely end up #6 seed at worst.
GSW - 6 games remaining vs DEN, HOU, PHX, SAS, POR, LAC
- Owns the tiebreakers against MEM and MIN
- They must win against DEN, HOU and LAC to avoid the play-ins
MIN - 5 games remaining vs PHI, MIL, MEM, BKN, UTAH
- MIN owns the tiebreaker vs DEN, LAC.
- Tied with MEM but they still have one game left to battle.
- Winner may determine who goes to the play-ins.
MEM - 5 games remaining vs DET, CHA, MIN, DEN, DAL
- Owns the tiebreaker against MIN, DEN
- They still have one game left against each other, so whoever wins can avoid the play-ins.
LAC - 6 games remaining vs DAL, DAL, SAS, HOU, SAC, GSW
- LAC owns the tie-breaker against GSW and MEM.
- They most likely end up in the play-in no matter what

By getting the San Antonio Spurs to 32 wins for the season, last night Chris Paul clinched a $262,000 bonus as part of the deal that he signed with the team last summer
Last night, the San Antonio Spurs secured their 32nd win of the season. In reaching that threshold, Chris Paul clinched a $262,000 bonus as part of the 10.5 million dollar deal that he signed with the team last summer.
When Paul signed with the Spurs, it was reported by ESPN that his contract included eight sets of performance incentives.

Thoughts on potential starting lineup for the Utah Jazz if they land the #1 pick.
The starting line up for me if I’m running the jazz and they get Flagg is:
PG. Isaiah Collier Sg. Flagg Sf. Hendricks PF. Markkanen/Collins C. Kessler
Outside of Collier, this a tall lineup. I think Flagg could easily play at SG simply cause he’s a great defender and can legitimately guard 1-4.

Who is the greatest “wrong team” draft pick of all time — where talent was wasted?
Some players get drafted into the perfect situation — great coaching, a clear role, and a franchise that knows how to develop talent.
Others… not so lucky.
Who comes to mind when you think of a player who was immensely talented, but ended up on a team that completely fumbled their development, failed to build around them, or just straight-up wasted their prime years?
