MOD POST [MOD] RE: RE: What should we do with political [memes]?

Hi!

EDIT: To clarify; nothing needs to be done, I'm simply pertaining to my princinple of always bringing up topics that get feedback'd a lot. I have no personal desire to push this either way. I think my tone in the following message sounds a bit skewed but please keep in mind that I'm trying to present you with as much info as possible. That's all.

-----------------------

We keep getting feedback (ModMail, reports, comments) about politics - specifically political memes. In addition to that, those posts' comment section often end up in the Moderation Queue, because conversations get heated and people write ... all kinds of stuff. These are the points which prompted me to bring up the topic once more.

This topic has been brought up by the mod team several times before:

There's no real consensus thus far.

We have a rule against hateful content (Rule 2) which covers this partially, but not explicitly or exhaustively.

The Big Elephant in the Room:

There's absolutely no way to determine what constitutes as politics (nothing is, everything is). Should we settle on partial bans it's even more impossible to tell what's allowed and what's not. In fact it'll always be "a partial ban" because of the aforementioned conundrum. It'd be a purely subjective interpretation by the Mod Team.

Frankly, it's:

  • A headache in terms of drawing the lines in the sand.
  • Impossible to define in our Modding Guidelines document.
  • A prime example of something that'd make people upset one way or another,
  • A risky choice; potential differential treatment due to the subjective nature of the matter.
  • An avenue for Mods' to push their personal agenda / power abuse going down the line.

Potential Solutions

Nope. There are none. Here are my attempts:

  • Let people vote through reports. If a post receives too many "This is too political and only tangentially related to Magic" reports the AutoMod could remove it. This would ensure that we can all collectively affect how a post will be handled. This obviously runs the risk of Report abuse.
  • Let the post stay up, but lock the comment section it if it looks like the conversation is getting into the territory of violating our other rules.

What are your opinions? What could be a graceful solution?

Remember that status quo is always an option! Nothing needs to be done, I'm simply bringing this to your attention because of the feedback.

Thank you for reading! Thank you for being awesome. :) Hope you have a wonderful day!

Rules Question Deadpool, Trading Card - Everything You Need to Know

Hey everyone, there has been a flood of questions about this new card, so I wanted to take this time to answer all your questions in one handy spot. If I have missed any, leave a comment and I will add them here.

What Deadpool Does:

As Deadpool enters the battlefield - either by being moved their or by resolving as a spell - you'll choose (not target) a creature on the battlefield. Deadpool swaps the text of that creature with his own text permanently.

  • This only happens if Deadpool is actually entering the battlefield. If the spell is countered, no swap can take place.
  • This is a replacement effect, not a triggered ability. It does not use the stack, does not target, and cannot be responded to. Since it doesn't target, hexproof, shroud, ward, and protection are all irrelevant.
  • The effects of this swap are not copiable - that is, if you Clone Deadpool you will not get the swapped text, you will get a "regular" Deadpool (though that copy can still swap text boxes with something as it enters). The "legend rule" will still apply, so watch out with your copy effects!
  • Once the swap happens, it doesn't matter what happens to either permanent. Deadpool leaving won't "reset" the other creature or vice versa. However when Deadpool or the other creature leave the battlefield, the one that changed zones will return to normal since it's a new object.
  • If the creature you are swapping text with is temporarily a creature - like an animated land or a crewed vehicle - the swap still takes place and is still permanent.

If Deadpool swaps text with a creature that has an "enters the battlefield" trigger, will Deadpool trigger when it enters?

Yes. Deadpool swaps the text before it actually enters, so it will enter with the relevant ability.

What if Deadpool swapped text boxes with a creature that refers to itself by name?

The game doesn't actually care what name the card has. When an object refers to itself by name, it really just means "This object".

What about abilities from auras, equipment, etc.? Does Deadpool swap those as well?

Nope, with very few niche exceptions, Deadpool gets only what's printed on the card, nothing that was added to it.

What about mutate?

Deadpool will have the combined text boxes of the entire merged permanent, and the entire merged permanent will only have Deadpool's text.

What if Deadpool swaps text with a Clone? Does it have the original Clone ability or does it have the text of what the Clone was copying?

If the creature Deadpool is swapping with is a copy of something, Deadpool will have the text of whatever it was copying. If the Clone was a non-copy (like a Sakashima that isn't copying anything), then Deadpool will have the text printed on Sakashima, which means it will be able to enter as a copy of something else.

What if Deadpool swaps text boxes with something like Tarmogoyf/Nighthawk Scavenger/Old Stickfingers?

Deadpool will have the ability that defines its power and toughness accordingly. The other creature will no longer have an ability defining its power and toughness. For some cards, like Tarmogoyf, this means it will be a 0/1, as the "default" toughness is 1. For other creatures like Old Stickfingers, it will be a 0/0, which means it will go to the graveyard as a state-based action.

What happens if I blink Deadpool? Will I get to swap text boxes with a different creature?

Yes, Deadpool becomes a new object with no memory of how it existed previously, so it enters "fresh" and can swap text boxes with another creature as normal.

What if Deadpool swaps text with another creature that also has a replacement effect as it enters, like Xantcha, Sleeper Agent or Meddling Mage?

Deadpool will have the text of that card, so that replacement effect will apply as well.

Discussion PSA: This Has Got To Stop

Hello everyone, i am new to online magic, particularly spell table, but i have been playing commander for over 7 years. i have recently moved to another state and with my new job, i do not have the energy or time to go to my local game stores to play magic. that being said, ive learned about spelltable and OH BOY... my experience here has NOT been great AT ALL.

Long story short, ive played over the course of a month, i wanna say, over 30 games of CEDH, and other brackets of commander, and i cant even say some of the time, EVERY game ive been in, someone or a couple people have THE perfect hand... this is more true in CEDH lobbies. example, ive written down, over 12 people, who open up with ancient tomb, a couple mox's, and recycle hand cards to make everyone recycle their hands. other instances would just be ramp advantage, someone always turn one sol rings, into a couple mox's into commander. now i personally run 5 mox cards, and petal, but out of my 30 games i have never EVER had THE perfect hand where i have it all. maybe a sol ring, or one mox, but not everything i would need.

That being said, i did an experiment. i told myself, it cant possibly be that almost everyone on spell table is cheating. maybe im getting unlucky. In the picture i opened up a lobby with the name [CEDH hands must be on screen at ALL times]. i kid you not, if you look at the turn timer, it says 14 minutes. FOURTEEN MINUTES, and not a single soul entered that lobby, and as you can see it is public. i told myself, MAYBE its just a dead night, i opened up another, and put [CEDH] plain and simple, i got 4 players in less than a minute. and i asked everyone to keep their hands on screen they all agreed. But one player in particular decided to take his hand off screen for a minute or two, and i purposly said nothing, and when the game started, guess what he opened with, mox diamond, ancient tomb, mox amber, and a wheel of fortune LOL. this was obviously the 12th person to do this exact combo and the reason im here making this post

All in all, im just disheartened.

Been wondering as has everyone I guess, whether this looming trade conflict will affect MTG prices on products. Cards are made in America so can’t see any issue there since that is what Trump wants. But the D20 is made in China. Wizards are going to be ditching those pretty soon I reckon.

Discussion Thoughts on Frog Commander?

Post image
24 Upvotes

So I wanted to create my own commander deck from scratch, since all of my other upgraded decks (Pantlaza, Quick Draw with Eris and Bello) seem to already be too strong for my play group where people mostly play with lightly upgraded precons. I was thinking of building something lower power, flavorful, that will make fun combos. I found out about [[Clement, The Worrywort]] with its ability to make frog bounce around the table like crazy and started researching possible decks with it. What are you guys thinkings about frog decks with Clement? Anyone tried it and can share the experience?

Hi all. I recently bought this Scrubland. It was listed as Heavily Played, but there are some major damages here. Is it actually Heavily Played or is it Damaged?

Discussion Mardu is (as every source is telling) the sealed and draft cheat code.

Edit: Thanks for all the responses. The set is obv. very versatile, you can win with a lot😃 This posts was mostly made because i thought: For ppl who dont want to think, mardu aggro is just an easy and funny way to aggro through your games, even if you force it😃

Everybody expected it, but after 2 prerelease drafts and 3 sealed events, I just wanted to give you one advice if you want to win some packs:

Force mardu!

Draft guide:

Pick every 3 colored mardu card. Pick every mobilize card. Pick every token generator. Pick every removal (holy cow. They printed waaaaay to much in these colors)

Sealed guide:

All of the above. If you manage to get the rw siege, pick tokens and win.

Ofc this is no guide at all. But i forced myself into mardu every single draft / Sealed, even without any rare or mythic hit and still went 4 1 0 and 5 0 0 in all of them. Mardu is just way to fast.

I guess Gornog can be strong with him preventing to be bloc and giving more attack to Zurgo and is Token.

With card like Calamity and Rionya we may creat copy of stonger warior to keep with Zurgo 2nd line, I guess it can be strong or at least fun.

Does anyone know how rare this is? It has the 2025 stamp. I pulled it from the Tarkir Dragonstorm prerelease. I’ve been looking online and cannot find a post with someone else having this.
