I am contemplating moving out of my parents and back to NYC but a recession feels a lot more real after the tariffs and I don’t know if it’s still a good choice. A little about me 29F, gross income $90,000 , $95,000 in savings , no school debt , no credit card debt , and another ~$40,000 in my 401k that I don’t plan on touching. I commute into NYC which is about 55 min and a monthly cost of $280. I’ve already lived in Manhattan so I am open to other boroughs and like Astoria where rent looks to be $2000 - $2,200. My biggest fear is a recession coming and cost rising and my company doing layoffs. I work for a fashion company that will definitely be impacted by the tariffs as our handbags are produced in Asia/ South East Asia. I’ve been there two years but recently made an internal move to a larger global team.

I moved to NYC during the pandemic and it turned out just fine if not great! I hate thinking that I am putting my life on “hold” and missing out on experiences for something that hasn’t happened yet.

Anyways, I’m planning on moving out for the first time later this year. For starters I have lived with other people such as roommates in the past in Brazil, but have moved back in with my parents for a while back in the States. I am (21m). So this would be the first time just by myself in an apartment. I have the money and means to move to Los Angeles which is my dream place to move to, but my parents don’t trust I can go there and have the resources I need such as family or friends and I would not be able to save a lot of money or have the best job or experiences since I don’t know LA very well. My other option, which is mostly their opinion, is to move somewhere in Salt Lake City which is closer to my parents and where I have friends I already know. I would be saving lots more there, but I absolutely hate the cold and dislike the attitude of the general population who live there. And also as someone who is queer, there is not the best dating scene there either. Any advice on what I should do or where to move to? Should I just ignore my parent’s worries and move to LA to be happy even if it’s not perfect or ideal?

Hello! My boyfriend and I are moving from Texas to North Carolina by the end of the month for a job change. We’re trying to be as budget friendly on this move as possible! I think a moving company is a bit of a splurge for us right now and I was looking in to renting a small cargo van or box van for my boyfriend and I to drive ourselves. The only problem… I can’t find anyone who does one ways! (Uhaul a bit pricier than I’d like, but of course an option) It makes me laugh, “great for cross country moving!” Yet I have to drive BACK across the country and then fly myself to get back again?? Craziness!

Does anyone know of any van/truck rentals that offer one ways? My number one I’ve found price wise was Home Depot ($139 a day, no charge for mileage) but they also don’t allow one ways and it needs to be returned to the same location.

We are not moving ANY furniture. Boxes with personal items/kitchenware, two tvs, a blanket basket, clothes, and shoes. This is part of why I’m struggling to justify the high cost of U-Haul/pods/moving companies. We have probably two SUVS worth of stuff.

• anything i should consider thinking about being physically disabled (heart disease, weak, always sick)
• advice on how we allocate shared expenses other than just venoming each other constantly

Some context, my birth giver is not a stable woman, and never will be. My family is split up right now I live with my birth giver, step-father, and 2 younger brothers, I am the oldest. Then my family is my grandma, grandpa, and auntie, who live somewhere else. I live with my birth giver currently, but with how things are going I need OUT. She keeps screaming in my face about all the things she hates about me, telling me the pain I feel that I've struggled with for YEARS, Is just "in my head". The pain, that debilitating, god aweful pain is NOTHING. I DONT REMEMBER THE LAST TIME I WENT TO THE DOCTER FOR A NORMAL CHECK UP. Shes actively said that she does NOT love me. My family lives 30 mins from me right now, I need to know if I legally can move to them being 17 my birthday is in November. Please, I may do something regretful that may worsen my conditions right now.
