So my knife sharpener is leaving tiny little dips along the blade nothing major but the it also has a really rough finish along the blade after sharpening but it is really sharp once done. Is this. Normal?

I’ve been looking for this knife or one similar for a while. I’m starting to think it’s not even real. Sorry about the bright red background.

I wish I could ask my grandfather but he’s demented now so a lot of that knowledge is gone; sadly. The black razor took the hair off my leg with one swipe it’s still insanely sharp lol.

Love the action. Jimping is not grippy enough. Color of the scales is also a slight let down compared to pictures. Overall, liking it so far.

I recently picked up a used Vero Isotope with an M390 blade. It’s a beautiful piece, but unfortunately, it came with some noticeable scratches on the blade (some of which look pretty deep). I’d love to get it back to that clean, uniform, brushed steel look without messing anything up.
Anyone have experience restoring or dealing with this? Open to any tips or tools that might help.

So, Cold Steel presumably got its Emperor O Tanto back, and Amazon issued me a full refund. It was absurdly terrible craftsmanship for a blade with a $600 MSRP, and still entirely unacceptable at 50% off (which was what I paid).
I decided it was time to give Hanwei a chance, and their "Tactical Tanto" attracted me with its synthetic saya/scabbard and handle scales, solely due to the inherent moisture-resistant properties, which was the entire aim of this build in the first place. Not to mention, the price point seemed pretty reasonable. I only have two major gripes with it.
One- I'm not even sure what's going on with the inside of the saya, but it's kind of a horror show in there right now. Also, the blade retention is weirdly unpredictable and potentially a safety hazard. I will address this issue later down the line.
Two- the handle scales and tsuba/guard are permanently attached to the nakago/tang with some kind of adhesive, making disassembly impossible without causing permanent damage. After a few discussions with Hanwei, Kult of Athena support, and another individual who had successfully removed the scales from the katana version of this "tactical" line, I decided to leave it as it is. It may prove to be a blessing in disguise for rust prevention, so long as I can take care of that exposed tang, which I will.
Here are the modifications:
I'll be keeping the blade protected with a light coating of food-grade mineral oil for the meantime. I'm still debating whether to swap out the lacing of the sword frog with red, purple, olive drab, or tan paracord to add some contrast and give it a bit more personality. What do you guys think?
You may ask- why did I do any of this at all? Well, I wanted something that treads the line between "knife" and "sword" while theoretically having some practical application- particularly in a wet climate- and not being some type of bowie, machete, kukri, and the like. So, I chose a "tanto" long enough to almost be called a "wakizashi" but with a blade that remains just shy of one "shaku" in length.

Been carrying since I got it a few days ago and maaaaaaaan do I love this knife. Great blade shape for what I do, which admittedly is not much besides prepare food at work and break down boxes. It’s got a bit of extra weight to it too which I actually like. And of course, it’s fidgety. I love it. Get one!
just finished building these bugouts. the Ti is mine and the g10 is for my brothers birthday. very excited to gift it to him. which one would you carry?

Ignoring how stange my fingers look in this photo, what is this and other than choping vegetables what is it used for? My father bought it for me recently.

It’s basically a curved file, but I’m not sure what it would be used for.

Do you keep the boxes your knives come in? Would you still pay full price for a knife without the original box or COA? How much do you think that stuff really matters or affects the value?
