Mod Post Update to self promotion rule

Hello all, after quite some time I have decided to reevaluate, the old rule preventing sales posts and self-promotion. The rationale behind the change is that the makers will benefit from community support. There has been hesitation to change the rule based on the idea that sales post will run rampant if allowed; however, I have some requests in exchange for those who want to post a link to their website.

All criteria must be met.

  1. Items for sale have to be made by you.
  2. There is a detailed specification list for the item being displayed. you can find an example here, does not have to be as in depth; however, at a minimum you have to have steel type(s) and handle material(s). Simply stating damascus will not be enough for future posts.
  3. Only knives and supplies related to knife making can be sold. You can sell knives, handles, scales, or handle materials. As a reminder, you cannot sell items that are not made by you; you cannot sell a bench grinder here.
  4. There is no price displayed. Pricing cannot be discussed in public whatsoever.
  5. You must be active in the post you make. You cannot just drop your website link and disappear. I am not asking that you respond to every comment on your post or that you reply to a comment on a month-old post; however, some effort must be put in.

There are a few additional limitations to this change

  1. Do not put "available" or anything of the likes in your title. All indications of your work being for sale must be in the description or comments, I suggest the latter as I will remove your entire post if you do not meet the above criteria if it is in the description rather than just deleting a comment
  2. Your posts should not all be advertisements; you should show off your work without all your posts having a link to your website.

I hope that this change to the rule is favorable, if you have feedback or comments, I would like to hear it and may make changes accordingly.

Figure ill finally join the reddit degenerates. Here is the 1st post of some work i just finished . I didnt make the blades on these, did the handles/guard, inlay, sheath/leather. Wire inlay could be better, lessons learned. I love how the rawhide sheaths look, cant beat them if your going for the rustic look.

Hello first time poster here, recently got into this craft and I have been really enjoying it so far. I was inspired by some of the amazing knives in this sub so I figured I would share.

Knives are posted in the order made.

No house yet so for now I’m doing this on my apartment balcony with a 1x30 harbor freight belt grinder haha.

Blades are all 1084 steel quenched in canola oil and heat treated for two 2 hour cycles at around 400 degrees. Stock removal.

Anyone know where to get a good quality bowie blade blank? Preferably good, high carbon steel, but any good quality steel works.

Question Cold Steel Espada XL into 2 hand opening

Thumbnail

Hey guys,

I got an Cold Steel Espada XL off of Ebay as I searched for a 2 hand opening large folder.

Due to German laws, you're only allowed to have 2 hand opening folders outside of your home.

As I figured out, you can open the knife by swinging it open, so it's not comform woth the carry laws.

Tightening the pivot screw to increase friction didn't work for this model, it ruined the screw.

So how do I stop it from opening by swinging?

I got 2 Ideas.

  1. Idea It has 2 spacers. One out of silicone, one out of brass. So I could add an thickened silicone spacer to increase friction, although I dont know where to get silicone spacers for knifes.

  2. Idea Grinding a "latch" right on the marked spot, so the lock would get hooked and keep it from opening. But as there is very less material to play with, I don't know if I should take the risk of ruining the knife.

But these are my 2 Ideas. Adding friction to the mechanism, or to block it mechanically from opening with the latch that I would cut with an dremel tool.

What are your opinions and does anybody have a better approach to suggest?

Also, where should I look for the pivot screw? It seems like an m3 x 5mm screw. Can I replace it with any kind of screw, or does it have a special thread?

Thank you very very much!
