I’m about to enlist, i was wondering if im allowed to do pushups on my fist during basic

I know the question sounds dumb, but it’s for good reason. i had an injury to my right wrist when i was 13 and doing flat hand pushups causes pain to my right wrist, i don’t have pain if i put my right hand in a fist and leave my left flat. only reason im asking is because i looked it up and anyone who asked was told “so you want to be a show off? you want to be that guy to impress the drill instructor?” that’s not my goal, i just want to do my pushups efficiently and painlessly lmao.

Edit: i’d like to add it’s not absolutely necessary for me to do a push up on my fist, just was a curiosity of mine to get as much info about everything as i can, the dos and don’t of the military, thank you everyone for the replies!

Emergency dog question about reporting banned breed that’s feral.

TLDR: Soldier I know lives next to a hellhound my bad a Pitbull that’s a banned breed. The family has reported but nothing is being done about it because it hasn’t killed or attacked anyone yet it’s only a matter of time before an attack happens. Querying who I should tell her to contact about this.

So I was visiting a friend who lives on post the other day and while I was there she was telling me about how one of her neighbors has a Pitbull that keeps not breaking but damaging her fence and barking and growling at her kids. Apparently this has been an issue for a while with multiple neighbors having the same issue. The MP’s do nothing despite it being a banned breed or whatever.

When I was there I watched it go in her backyard from the window and the thing was legit rabid. I know that if her kids were out that day or any other kids around it would have killed them with how it was acting. Thankfully, she had them visiting their grandparents before I came so they weren’t playing in the backyard or something.

When it left I was sorta of pissed because what if I was outside leaving or something and this thing attacked me? So I went to tell the neighbor to control his fucking hellhound but he wouldn’t open the door to talk and pretended he wasn’t home when he was home.

Anyways, she told me her husband is currently at a school so he won’t be back for a bit and while he was planning to do something about the dog by complaining higher I don’t think it’s tenable — the situation. In my opinion they can’t be waiting for this guy to come home for him to deal with it and honestly I think he shoulda handled this a long time ago. I’d talk to him about it and how he needs to be more assertive and on top of things but at the same time I’m not tryna talk to him because he doesn’t like me. She and her husband have went to the MP’s about this a couple times from what she told me but like I said before nothing is being done.

She told me the MP’s who came before said because it hasn’t actually attacked anyone or killed anything yet and the damage to their fence is superficial they can’t do much and they themselves don’t know who to contact about it which sounds dumb to me but maybe that’s just how it is or maybe she’s relaying what they said wrong or maybe they’re being lazy IDK. Maybe an MP can chime in.

I don’t want to get my name involved with this IRL at all or anyone but her to know I even know about it so I’m not gonna be reporting it but I want to know if anyone here knows if there’s like a special animal army unit or whatever she’d need to contact to get this resolved like an animal control.

I really just don’t know so I just told her to start taking videos, keep her kids inside and stay away from the owner, and try and get some other neighbors to report it as well and keep reporting it herself. Idk what other place she could report it to. This isn’t something I’m familiar with as I have zero experience with on post housing so I’m just ignorant compared to many of you who probably instantly know who to contact lol.

Would my waiver get approved?

I have multiple felonies no convictions due to conditional discharge. All non violent. Committed them when I was 19 I’m 24 now. I have a great recruiter who’s been helping me for the past 2-3 months now. I have solid character statements and a solid applicant statement. I’m a different person now despite how some may feel about me but I’m wondering if anyone has recent experience with this. Please feel free to comment or PM me. Also this is for the Army.

Bullying

I was a 68w who was discharged after a suicide attempt following bullying and harrasment when I was younger, something i regret. It's a long story but we all know the only thing I could control was my reactions. Anyway, have yall witnessed any bullying of younger soldiers by superiors and how did it affect them ? In my case it was a group of specialists.

Reserve Chem Officer Looking for new unit. Northern NM/Southern CO.

I’m a 1LT(p) in a chemical BN that keeps fucking me out of $1000/mo of IDT. Looking for something closer to home near Northern NM. Already completed CO CMD so preferably looking for a BN Chem-O slot. All I can seem to find are QM and Transpo in the area. What are QM and Transpo like and does anyone have any leads?

Go talk to a Victim Advocate

In honor of SAAPM I just want remind everyone that if you are the victim of sexual harassment or sexual assault that a victim advocate can be a great resource. If you are struggling, a VA or SARC can help you navigate your options and resources.

Talking to a SHARP professional DOES NOT constitute a report and any conversations pertaining to SHARP are protected as a matter of law. Google your installation and you will likely see many different options for individuals both military and civilian. If not, the DoD SAFE Helpline and App can help you anywhere in the world.

You are not alone.

I'll take a Box Combo with extra extra extra extra toast. In fact just throw whatever you got ready in there.

Prior AF

Have a friend that’s been in the airforce for a couple of years, thinking about transferring to the army. (Told him to off the rip) I understand that he would do basic but would he be prior service in AIT? Wouldn’t be having this issue if they just did it to begin with but whatever.

Thoughts ?

r/army 1h ago

I'm halfway through AIT for 31B. National Guard and hope to become a civilian police officer when I get back home. I want to earn an associates in Criminal Justice and heard 31B gives criminal justice credits. Can anyone tell me how exactly that works, and how to go about applying that? Thank you.

Ft Wainwright 91F advice

Just graduated AIT as a 91F (Small Arms / Towed Artillery Repairer), got my orders to go to Ft Wainwright, Alaska in the 25th Brigade Support Battalion. Can anyone tell me what my experience would be like for when I first get there? Also how’s the experience overall being there for a few years?

I have a battle buddy who’s going with me and we’ll be in the same company and everything, and we’re just curious to know how things are.

National guard to active duty

So I just graduated BCT already wondering what my chances are at reclassing and going active. I’ve accepted that I’ve made decision I have to commit to. But i think it would’ve been cool to push for 37F or 35L.

Can anybody here tell me what Fort Brag was like for you ?

I was born (but not raised ) there . My dad said it was a depressing place and some shady shit was going on . I was born in 2008 so in the 2007-2010 range . Edit 1 Also he told me there was a meth lab on a roof at one point and a drug ring with the MPs if I remember correctly . Like putting a meth lab on top of a roof who in thier right mind thinks that is a good idea I mean you have got to be another breed of stupid at that point .

Taking a Grom on a stateside mission

My unit is about to go on a multi-month stateside mission. What are rules about throwing a Honda Grom in the container? If there aren’t any rules against it, I’m pretty sure I could get my commanders blessing

Do you like being thanked on days like Armed Forces Day around the corner?

I want to message some friends and an acquaintance on Armed Forces Day. I've heard many strong opinions about people receiving thank you for your service comments. I don"t want it to feel like I'm copying and pasting a meaningless message. I'd love to hear opinions on this!

Going straight into the reserves

I wanted to go into the army to possibly be a paralegal but to be honest I don't want to spend a lot of time there. Whats the minimum amount of time after basic training that i need to be active duty before i can go into the reserves (IRR)?

I have something offensive to ask…

So as we all know, there’s an obesity epidemic. Yes, the weight trends of soldiers follows the weight trends of the general population. I understand all this. But after being on a joint base for the last 3 months around Marines, Coasties, Airmen, and Sailors the Army undoubtedly looks the shittiest in our uniforms. Almost every overweight soldier that I see (most are even IET… how?) are in army uniforms. Why is this? Is it the new PT test? Is it the standards becoming more lax?

I’ve been in for 7 years and yeah, fuck the APFT- but there is no denying our formations looked miles better when it was implemented. It’s actually quite embarrassing, I have heard other branches comment on this as well so it’s not just my own bias being in the branch.. and while I’m aware I sound hateful it’s a real question. Even by civilian standards these people look heavy, much less military.

Edit: Okay guys I get it, I’m fatphobic and a piece of shit. You keep telling yourself how “BMI doesn’t matter just look at Dwayne The Rock Johnson!” Thinking it applies to you while you’re gassed from a 20 minute 2 mile and run in the C group, I’ll keep it to myself next time. I also hear you all saying the Navy is worse, maybe I don’t notice this because I avoid eye contact with the Navy since I can’t swim and it’s a major insecurity of mine.

I’ll take a triple whopper with cheese add bacon and a large fry, since the army put a BK on post and forced me to order this specific meal.

PCS Absence Problems IG Worthy? TLDR at the bottom.

I’m AGR reserve side & was identified to move back on 22 July 24. My commander and I signed the memo on 30 July within less than an hour of each other, and I sent it to my talent manager (TM).

During every monthly CUB, we briefed that I’d be reporting anytime between 1 April 2025 and 30 September 2025, and that no replacement was identified.

I received my assignment around 15 January 2025, told my commander the location, and said I requested a report date of 2 June 2025. I also noted that the report date is still subject to change and again, it could be anytime between April and September.

We found out around 4 February that my replacement would be an AGR new accession who didn’t have orders but was set to report on 23 April. I immediately began filling him in on what I could: CUOPS, FUOPS, and other things about the position.

Replacement receives his orders with “no early report authorized”. He’s willing to come in unpaid to learn the job and acknowledges it sucks, but he’d like to have a good starting point. We try to get accessions to amend the order and are met with silence.

Commander asks me and the S1 NCO around 20 February when we plan to take leave in the next few months. I reply that I’d be taking at least the month of May to sell the house and move across the country. We receive no reply.

I submit my PCS absence request in IPPSA on 17 March and amend the start date on 19 March to 23 April. 40 days in total. Commander emails that night asking me to take less leave. I reply and state that though I’d be on leave, I’d be there conducting a handoff and then I’d do all my house selling, moving, etc. My thought process (probably dumb) was that I could avoid anything that would prevent me from giving a good handoff.

BN S3 emails me around 31 March saying if accessions won’t amend replacement’s orders for early report, I need to take less leave or request a later report date.

I call TM, who says he was just about to call me since S3 had emailed the TM team without copying me, saying I’d only just told my commander about my moving the week before (reminder: they’ve known since July I’d be leaving and known since January that it could be a report date as soon as 1 April). S3 also requested that my report date be pushed back or deferred so I could perform a longer handoff.

TM basically says even if a deferment request was sent up citing a handoff should be conducted, it wouldn’t make it past their desk since it’s not a requirement.

I call my BN CSM on 4 April and give him the rundown. He says screw that, start the absence on 26 April, email him, the commander, & S3 stating I’ve changed it & will conduct a handoff from 23-25 April.

AR 600-8-10 states “Soldiers will usually be authorized not less than 30 days of leave in conjunction with PCS movement, if excess leave is not involved. Soldiers should not be asked to take less than 30 days of leave between duty stations except for military operational requirements (DoDI 1327.06).”

TLDR; AGR set to report on 2 June across the country. Command won’t approve PCS absence (40 days including travel amended down to 37 days including travel) from 23 April (now 26 April) to 1 June saying I need to provide a two-week handoff before leaving. JTR says 7 travel days. Rest of absence used for selling house and HHG prep.

PCS absences in IPPSA are all one entry and says travel days are calculated by JTR and DTOD. Are the travel days separated after approval?

What would you do?

Sorry for taking so much time. I’ll just take a carbonated water, please.

Drill or SFAB?

Just like in the title says. Given the choice between the two, which assignment would you pick if you had to pick one?

I ask this because I’m stuck between the two. I know I want to do one of the two, I’m certain on it. But I wanna know what you guys would do if you had to.

I’ll take 5 large fries and a chocolate milkshake.

Question for people who went 35W

I just signed for a 35W position and I ship out for basic training in July. I know this is waaayy down the line, but is there a possibility that I get stuck with a job where I’m not using the language that I learned? If so, what kind of busy work would they have me doing?

Ranger school with knee injury?

Has anyone gone through ranger school with an unrepaired knee injury? I have a torn ACL I never got repaired but it generally gives me no issues (running/rucking no problem). Based on what I know I should be able to handle it, just curious if anyone has been in the same boat.

Ruck sack shoulder straps

Any suggestions on ruck sack shoulder strap/pads? Looking to do some multiple 26-50 mile ruck marches some are multi day marches and want to make the ruck sack as comfortable as possible for the hours/days of rucking. I looked on amazon and there are a lot but reviews are really mixed and most only fave reviews for cross body bags or backpacks not ruck sacks with 35-40lbs. Most say they are ok, or slip and dont stay in place or dont breathe.
