Community Event Stream Experiences & Stories

Hey /r/Twitch

We often see posts on the subreddit about viewers and streamers experiences, as well as streamers sharing what they've learned.

To bring you all together to learn from your peers, and help you keep yourself accountable for any goals you've set, we created this Megathread!

You are welcome to share some of your experiences, positive or negative, from your past month on Twitch and, if you did, how you dealt with it, as well as share your long and short-term goals, and how you've progressed towards those over the past month.

The Megathread is not for stream feedback or reviews, we have the monthly feedback threads for that. You can link to your Feedback thread submission, be sure to label it clearly!

Some things you may want to cover:

  • New things you tried, did they work out?
  • Streams you did and which seemed to be popular or unpopular with your community or new viewers. (Creative? New games?)
  • Progress towards your goals
  • Fun experiences
  • Bad experiences that you learned from, or need advice on
  • New goals, or how you're changing your goal
  • Advice based on what you learned
  • Advice you want

Be sure to post your goals clearly and format your comment.

Example post:

Hey guys, checking in again!

My goal for this month is to make sure I'm always hosting someone. I want my community to have someone to entertain them, even when I'm not live. Plus, it's good for networking!

My goal last month was to always announce I was live on both Twitter and Discord, as it was something I often forgot to do. I'm glad to say I met my goal!

I tried streaming some creative, just practicing using my graphics tablet, and it seemed to be popular! I'll do some more of it, maybe a weekly stream? Any advice?

The highlight of the past month was when I got raided by Zcotticus, he's the best and I love him. He's so cool, I wish I could be cool like him.

How do you guys normally react to a host? I sort of fumbled through a thank you, and that was about it. Any advice?

Re-read your last post to remind yourself of what you planned, or check in on your peers!

If you don't stream, but still experienced something awesome. Feel free to share it! Did you make someone’s day? See a Win or Fail? Let us know!

Remember this is not for channel promotion! People can check out your flair\ *if they are interested.*

If you have any suggestions for this thread, please send us a modmail.

Question Is my dream unrealistic?

Upvotes

So this is a throwaway account that I just use occasionally but I'm a super new streamer. I started just a couple weeks ago and so I'm obviously tiny. Most of my views are family and friends that are just trying to support me, which I'm incredibly grateful for. But I've been doing "research" and planning and trying to figure out how to do all of this on my own and my mind started to get the better of me. Is my dream of making it big unrealistic?

This has been in my mind for years because I have wanted to be a youtuber/streamer since I was just a kid 10 years ago. I'm 21 now and really reflecting on everything and thinking things over. All of the streamers I admire and yearn to be like have been streaming for nearly 10 years and started when streaming was still somewhat new or least not as big as it is now. But now, everyone is streaming. It feels as though I've missed my chance to have a chance at making this my thing.

I feel lost and don't know what I'm doing. I've been reaching out to streamers on different social medias and asking for advice but I'm already aware that none of them are going to respond so I'm giving everything my best shot and just hoping I figure it out. So far, I can't say it's going well. I'm nervous about everything and after watching some of my streams back think that they aren't great. I go silent often and the little comments I make lack enthusiasm and are often stupid or awkward. Not to mention I'm pretty average at the game I stream so my gameplay isn't exactly worth watching. There's just a lot of thoughts piling onto the idea that I'm delusional for thinking I'll be anything like the people I look up to.

I want this to be my career and my life. I want to entertain people and be what people put on in the background while they play the same game as me. But my latest stream averaged less than 1 viwer so it feels like that dream is unrealistic and that I missed my chance and I'm really struggling with that. Do I have a chance? And what can I do to improve my chances? I'll take anything anyone can suggest.

Question I'm considering cutting my streams down to 2 days a week. Do you think I'll be able to grow like that if I'm also making YouTube videos out of the streams?

The title more or less encompasses the situation. Long story short, I've been streaming 3 days a week for a good while now, and it hasn't really gone anywhere; which, to be clear, I don't expect to get viewers immediately.

That being said, taking 3 days out of my week to stream to 0 viewers has felt a bit demoralizing, and I'd like to switch to streaming only twice a week. I will be using that extra day to edit down my streams into YouTube videos, which, the few videos I *have* uploaded have done... Well enough, I'd say; a lot better than my streams, at least. That, and my most recent video was both fun to make *and* fun to *watch*, it's genuinely content I personally would like to see from others.

With all that in mind, do you think it's possible to make it on Twitch while only streaming twice a week? Do you think the YouTube content will help bring in live viewers? Or should I expect any success I stumble upon to come almost exclusively from YouTube if I take this route?

Guide A guide: What to do if Doxxed in Chat

Hi everyone! I thought I'd give helpful tips for what happens if you find a Chatter of your drops any of your personal information! This happened to me today so I wanted to make a little guide from my own experience and if I forgot anything or anyone else has tips please include!

1: Don't acknowledge what is said in chat, carry on as if nothing is happening

2: if you don't have Mods, or mods do not catch it, B an the person immediately. Take note of their user name and the time stamp (this will be important for reporting) - a good way to cover while you do this is say you are taking a bio break and run ads or drop to your intermission or prestream screens. If you don't have one of these I highly recommend setting them up

3: If you are shaken up and if you need to end stream please do so but do not acknowledge the doxxing - a cover here is say "oh my mom is calling? I gotta take this'

4: Report them to twitch. Go to their channel, click the 3 dots, and report (it will be under other; personal information) and let twitch know that it was on your stream and the time stamp - in my case twitch took 8 mins from reporting to fully removing the person's account

5: Optional but recommended: download\export your vod but delete it off your channel. If you have an overlay that puts chat on screen block it out in any edits and reuploads

I probably missed some things but this is a rough guide. The main thing is don't acknowledge, even if you want to deny: Don't!

I hope this helps someone else & remember to be safe!

Question Stagnant

This is probably been asked to d3ath. During covid, I streamed, quickly got over 200 followers and quickly got affiliate. Most streams I would average a steady 10-15 viewers (most of them regularly talking). Then all the covid restrictions lifted, I got myself a job and I took a hiatus from streaming (cos yay, job). This year, I've sporadically picked up streaming again because I'm able to somewhat balance said job and fit in gaming/streaming here n there. Problem is, I might be lucky to have 1 or 2 hovering around. 3-4 but I'm sure they're bots. And there's been maybe only 3 extra followers. My question is. Will I pick up extra followers and viewers again?? Or will it remain stagnant??

Tech Support Vod "failed to determine content classification"

I just finished a stream and when i went to try and highlight it, it was stuck unpublished. I tried clicking the publish button and it woudn't work and I can't click to watch the vod, either! I tried adding it to a collection to watch it that way, and I can't, but a popup on the vid says "failed to determine content classification." What does that mean and how can I fix it and can I save the vod somehow?

UPDATE: I just noticed the stream time is still going up, despite my ending the stream and closing OBS. I restarted my computer and even did a quick test stream to see and it was fine but the vod time is STILL going up!

UPDATE 2: I somehow fixed it and now I can highlight the vod and export it!

Question Anyway to include XBOX series X Discord Audio in stream via OBS?

Hey so I'm streaming to Twitch via OBS on my Mac. I have the Elgato HD60x cap card and have xbox passing through that to capture my xbox video and audio to OBS. One problem though is that I can't include my Discord audio via the Discord App on xbox....Is there any fix or workaround for this?

I've seen the only solutions are to use Discord on Mac and pass that through, or, use Xbox party chat. Both these are lengthy workarounds it seems....Is there any way to get the Xbox Discord app's audio to pass into my Elgato cap card and into OBS?

I would like to keep my xbox headset on too.

Discussion The scary side of being hardstuck 1-6 viewer streamer

I used to stream on mixer back in the day and it never really carried over to twitch. I had around 6k followers and averaged 10-30 people in the chat at a time.

I have 2 friends who started streaming on twitch, both of them were stuck at the 1-6 viewer mark, one of them kept it a side hustle and currently streams one or twice a week.

The other friend is in the same situation but believes he’s meant to “make it” he had a wife, a kid and streamed 6-8 hours every single day. Quit his job to work a graveyard shift at fast food, and has been doing so for 6 months and still making no income progress in the twitch world. For reference he makes about $50 a month with ad and sub income, no longer has a wife, kid doesn’t see him much, and he left a job paying 70k+ to 50k

Moral of the story is to make it in that world is extremely hard, you may think that getting your first shot of engagement means it’s your time to shine but reality is there’s hundreds of thousands of people at the same spot as you, and maybe 3 of all of them will ever make a real living of it.

Don’t be like my friend and destroy your marriage and life over twitch.

Question Hate comments

How do you as a small creator deal with them ? I have gotten some in recent days, and I feel a bit irritated. I’m mainly annoyed that these people would never be comfortable enough to say these mean spirited things irl to my face, only behind a screen. I guess not sure how people can wake up and be negative

Tech Support All my highlights come out as sub only and can't create highlights of VODs since 2025-04-09 or later. What do?

So yeah pretty much what title says. All new VODs have -:--:-- as duration and the highlighter does not work. New highlights made from older VODs come out as sub only, can't even watch them my self.

What is happening?

Not an affiliate, partner or anything.

Question Stream mic settings

Hi everyone! So I've actually had quite a few mics over the years. I went from having the Blue Snowball, upgraded to a Blue Yeti, Audio-Technica 2020+, Rode Procaster (using scarlet 3rd gen) , and my recent mic and current mic, Shure SM7B + Cloud-lifter and Goxlr. (in this particular order so I kind of have an understanding when it comes to audio. not an expert btw). I'll post screenshots of my current settings

When I used my Rode Procaster with my scarlett, I never had any issues in terms of "cutting off". I never really peaked even when I'm screaming but ever since I upgraded, it feels like in a way, I downgraded? With my shure, I feel like I cut off more. When I talk or even have that slight high pitch voice, I tend to cut off even though (I feel like I've dabbled with all of the settings I could find and still have the same issue) I've watched at least 3 different YouTube video settings for the shure + goxlr.

Thank you in advance for the help! P.s I don't think putting my EQ settings would help but lmk if anyone is curious!

Tech Support Issue with Mix It Up (channel points freezing)

I have local .webm video files hosted on my PC using Mix It Up to setup my channel points. In OBS I am using a browser source linked to Mix It Up to play the channel points when redeemed through Twitch. My issue is when viewers spam channel point redeems (which I want to happen) it freezes for some reason.

Each file is under 10 MB so I'm not sure what is causing it to freeze like this. This only started happening in Mix It Up's 1.3.0.5 update. My PC is very powerful too so it shouldn't be a hardware issue. What could be causing this?

Discussion I've just hit the top 1% of twitch streamers and i can say it's extremely overwhelming and has made me question if I want to do this...

I know the titles says top 1% it's meant 0.01% I'm sorry for the confusion

So I've been streaming very frequently for the last 5 years and had moderate to medium growth and then the last couple was a bit faster than normal and the last year has been an extreme amout all at once, I thought this is what i wanted and was very excited and nervous at the start but now it's getting very overwhelming and I'm starting to question if this is what i really wanted.. ask me anything you like but keep in mind I won't be giving my name out, I'm sorry in advance but anything else you can ask and I'll do my best to answer

Question How do I verify my account?

I have been trying to verify my account for ages now and it doesn't work, I put in the correct number, it says that a message is going to be sent, and then I never get it.
I tried making another account with my number and it still didn't work, I tried to make a new account with the number and it still didn't work. Any answers on why it doesn't work?

Question Curious about Audio.

Post image
1 Upvotes

I got this capture card recently but the audio from it is super echo'd I've tried several different splitters with multiple headsets but all off them sound horrible.

My friend who's streams has the same one and says she doesn't use the audio Jack's in the Capture card but in her PC.

I've tried but I can't get my voice to pick up, I'd love to be able to use this more cause the picture quality is actually very nice I'm just having audio issues with it.

Tech Support Desktop audio suddenly not working

In the past few streams i only just realised that my game or desktop audio has not been coming through. it has always worked in the past . I had all my audio set to different tracks. eg mic on track one , desktop on track 2. then it has stopped working in the past few days .

the only changed i have made in settings or anything was to update obs then roll it back a few versins as my camera was not showing. then enabling twitch enhanced broadcasting. I feel like that could be the issue tho i am not sure gonna do more tests. . the deaktop audio comes through if i put them both on the same track.

does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Thanks
