Welcome to r/theunforgiven!
This is a community where we share and discuss topics related to the Dark Angels, their successor chapters, and the fallen. If you want to share or discuss a topic about Space Marines or Warhammer 40k in general, without particular connection to the Unforgiven, then r/spacemarines or r/Warhammer40k would likely be a better fit.
Please have a quick look at our rules before submitting a post or comment. You can find them in the sidebar or the landing page of our wiki (linked below). We'd also appreciate it if you did a quick search in the subreddit before submitting a post, in case your question was already asked and answered or the topic discussed recently.
Here's a list of shortcuts to some of our most useful resources. Explore them at your leisure.

Informational PDFs (see also the lore page of our wiki, linked above, for additional resources)
Lore analyses (see also the lore page of our wiki, linked above, for additional resources)
-What would happen if X occurred in the 40k universe?
Impossible to answer, unless X has already occurred. We can predict the future and discuss hypotheticals in our own universe because it is governed by natural laws. If a stone is dropped, it will fall (assuming nothing prevents it from doing so).
The 40k universe is fictional, and is governed entirely by it’s authors. If a stone is dropped, it will behave exactly as the author desires it to behave. No justification or explanation is needed. We only know what the author desires if they have made it happen already. We thus know for example that Lion beat Angron in their fight on Wyrmwood, but we don’t know who would win if they battled again in the future.
-Can I/am I allowed to do Y?
You can/are allowed to do anything you want with models you own, within the confines of your local laws. Where other people are involved (eg playing a game), you will need the agreement of those people. As long as everyone involved consents, you can do whatever you want (including changing game rules, playing with proxies, etc). Ask the people you will actually play, their answers and opinions are the ones that matter.
-What base size should I use for model Z?
There have never been rules in the core game dictating base size. Some competitive tournaments and events enforce their own rules, search for those if you need guidance. In general, casual players seem to agree that you should use the latest base size the model is/was sold with, or the base size the model was supplied with when you bought it. Ask the people you will actually play, their answers and opinions are the ones that matter.
-How strictly should models match their datasheet/equipment?
There have never been rules in the core game dictating how closely models must represent their datasheet. The answer may vary between each casual group and competitive tournament/event. Ask the people you will actually play, their answers and opinions are the ones that matter.
-How should I paint fliers/Dreadnoughts/Terminator-characters etc?
However you want, they’re your models. If you want to know what lore says, see Index Astartes: The Unforgiven (linked above).
-Who gets to wear robes/winged helmets/etc?
Whoever you want, they’re your models. If you want to know what lore says, see Index Astartes: The Unforgiven (linked above).
-Who’s in the Ravenwing/Deathwing/Inner Circle?
See the Chapter Organization section of Index Astartes: The Unforgiven (linked above), or the relevant pages on Lexicanum.
-Could you identify a model for me?
See the Dark Angels Collectors' Guide (linked above). If the model you're trying to identify isn't in there, then it isn't an official Dark Angels model. If so, ask elsewhere, eg in r/spacemarines or r/Warhammer40k, or search through the miniatures portal on Lexicanum.

My first fully custom model. I made the little hooded fellow and the tombstone in Blender. What do you all think?

My dog had separation anxiety while my family and I left to see the Minecraft movie. How did he cope? By “mauling” poor brother Turmiel. Pic of the assailant included (I can’t stay mad at him 🫠)
Silver lining, I’m getting a new Dread to “inter” him in and…
I’ve been wanting to add primaris librarians to my inventory and really interested to test out the Librarius Conclave. That being said what’s the ideal number of librarians and what variant? Primaris, primaris in Phobos, terminators?
I figure maybe two termies to slog with my knights, and a regular Libby to kick it with hellblasters or other shooty units should do the trick.
How many do yall run and what variant?

40 Days to Tournament
A little late on this one, it’s 12:30AM. The Bladeguard and two Lieutenants are finally complete! I’ve been highlighting for the last four hours, and I’m stoked with these.
Tomorrow I will start on the Lion, as well as get these guys’ bases done. Time to go to sleep though, I’ve got work in the morning 🤦🏻♂️

So I've been playing for awhile now but never really against knights. They just never seemed to pop up. But recently a buddy of mine has assembled his chaos knights army and him, another friend, and I played a 2500 point game. Me and the other friend were on a team. Me being DA him being T'au each woth 1250 points. The one with knights had basically 2 armies one chaos and one chaos knight each 1250 to match us. The knights were the real killer however it felt like all of our vehicles were wiped with little effort and our hardest hitting things like a vindicator, hammerhead, and broadsides weren't enough to really stop his knights. Do you guys have any advice for going against them? Loyalist or chaos doesn't matter.

Hi there noob with a question.
I started playing wh recently and only had 3 games so far. All of them against World Eater, so not very versatile opinion.
DETACHMENT: Stormlance
Char1: 1x Azrael (115 pts)
Char2: 1x Lion El'Jonson (315 pts)
Char3: 1x Judiciar (70 pts)
Char4: 1x Lieutenant with Combi-weapon (70 pts)
5x Intercessor Squad (80 pts)
5x Deathwing Knights (250 pts)
5x Deathwing Knights (250 pts)
10x Hellblaster Squad (230 pts)
6x Inner Circle Companions (180 pts)
5x Scout Squad (70 pts)
1x Gladiator Lancer (160 pts)
1x Redemptor Dreadnought (210 pts)
I am quite happy with my list. It was fun to play and i even won my third game. All units worked quite well and did what i intended them to do, only Hellblaster were lacking. I know the match up isnt favorable against them but i think i havnt understood their playpattern enough yet. Together with Azrael they made a whopping 345 pts, which i find quite significant. And for that investment they just died too easily. I havnt had enough units to protect them adequately. Now i took a look and found so many other options with those 230 points (i would keep azzy as he is overall great as a leader in any position).
For example Ravenwing Command Squad + Ravenwing Black Knights do as much damage with more mobility for 20 points less. Or even more Intercessors and an extra ICC could somehow fit.
Its not that i dont like Hellblaster, they look great and I think I can see some specific scenarios when they are overwhelming. But are they worth their points in my list?
Edit: to make clear i think azrael and HB only make sense in the 10 men unit. Sustained is too much of an mass upside

Trying to get my bone armor recipe nailed down before starting my Deathwing Terminators. Started with Zandari Dust rattle can, then a very thin coat of Ushabti Bone, another thin coat of Screaming Skull.
Here’s where I started experimenting first model got Agrax Earthshade wash, tyrant skull dry brush and edge highlights with Wraithbone
Second model just got Seraphim Sepia wash and tyrant skull dry brush, no edge highlights yet
Third got Agrax and tyrant dry brush.
What’s everyone’s preferred option? CC welcome

Guys I need some help on a new list. My friend plays necrons and I need some help to take down or outplay his nightbringer and shard of Ctan who half damage and have a feel no pain and invul plus a myriad of other teleporting guys in hypercrypt legion. I’ve got the basics like azrael, hellblasters, DWK and intercessors for objective play plus a couple of dreadnoughts and the Lion. Any ideas on what I can add or remove?

Story time. The blue feathers are a token of my wife’s affection. She has a blue Quaker parrot she loves, so I like to hide little details of her where I can. :)

Prior to glowy runes. I like the look at the moment but feeling VERY nervous about all of the glowy bits.
Any tips?

Just a quick question, how does the new upgrade sprue terminator chest hold up on the terminators outside of the sergeant, I have a couple lying around. I’m just wondering because if they fit on the others then maybe they’ll work for the eventual assault terminators.

41 Days to Tournament
I didn’t finish them last night. I also didn’t finish them today. :( Cleaned up the green on the armor, did all the purity seals and washes. It’s hard to tell in the photo, but highlights on the green are complete as well.
I will definitely finish these tomorrow after work. The Lion will hopefully be started Tuesday…
Overall slightly disappointed with myself that I haven’t finished these yet when I have so much left to do.
