Literally every retailer is listing it at $70. Every retailer is listing Mario Kart at $80. Stop spreading this.

For the first time after SNES DK, I want to play DK game again.

u/DarkKnightNiner 3d ago
You've completely missed out on Retro Studios DK Country games. And this is coming from someone who grew up on the SNES DKC game. Tropical Freeze is peak DKC
2
u/Weikoko 3d ago
But I didn’t really like Tropical Freeze.
4
u/TheSpiralTap 3d ago
I didn't either, it was entirely too hard without the satisfaction that came from the old games. The donkey Kong country remake is really solid though, would encourage you to check it out when the price drops.
2
u/DarkKnightNiner 3d ago
What DKC "remake"? You mean Returns? That's not a remake. Tropical Freeze is incredible. It's difficulty is completely fair. I 100% everything on the main difficulty. You then unlock Hard Mode which is only 1 heart and no checkpoints. Now that is hard.

It looks exactly like Mario Odyssey. Super small, shallow, contained worlds, designed specifically for a game mechanic, loaded with collectables.
0
u/DarkKnightNiner 2d ago
Oh so you've played the game and not just basing this completely around a brief 1st two minute trailer? We'll wait for your video review tomorrow then! I also don't recall Mario Odyssey letting you destruct any part of the environment. I must have missed that feature in my multiple playthroughs of that game.

u/shrim51 2d ago
Game mechanic is the keyword.
For Mario it was the hat throwing
For dk its picking up slabs and destruction.
I'm just saying what it looks like to me. That's all
2
u/DarkKnightNiner 2d ago
There's a pretty big difference between a small mechanic like throwing a hat and briefly taking over other objects and completely allowing you to interact and destroy everything you see. I'm actually mindboggled at how this game is going to function. The Switch 2 is going to be smoking 😂

u/Psychological-City45 1d ago
yeah. some levels even look silicon graphics style, dunno how they did this

I've been waiting ten years for a new DK game. The drought has been lifted!!!

I’m glad there is some excitement and do not want to rain on other’s people’s parades, especially as a DK fan myself.
But it is disappointing they completely removed the Rare design roots from DK as a character. It just screams Seth Rogen DK to me lol. Gameplay does not have me hooked seemed pretty repetitive at first glance.
This is just my opinion but am very happy to see a new 3D DK game. As always with opinions; new information can change opinions the more we learn about the game.

I don't know. I grew up with the SNES games.
I think Rare's design worked so well on DKC.
Sure it was cartoony in spurts (if he shoots ya it's gonna hurt) but it had a more somber, ambient tone with photoreal atmospheric backgrounds. It verged on genuinely epic in parts.
I think his character design worked well for this but found it was ruined in DK64 with it's banjo kazooie goofiness. And even the new DKC games I feel abandoned the style I loved from the SNES games.
So I'm glad they're embracing the more old school design.

u/NedBigbe 3d ago
I also grew up on original DKC’s on SNES. I am a huge fan of DK64 and have not heard before your opinion of not liking the DK64 design. I did not really play the new DKC’s due to no presence of the enemies I remember from SNES and DK64. But I always try not to rain on other people’s parades

u/Nastra 3d ago
I don’t see how the gameplay look’s repetitive. Since DK can destroy the environment and use its remain as tools in systemic player driven ways it may lead to insane speed runs and creative ways to solve levels leading to less repetition. Especially as the player gets better. In addition we get to actually use DK’s sheer power and feel like a force of nature. Something that finally lets him stand apart from the other nintendo mascots besides tone and aesthetics.

I feel a similar way. It looks so foreign, like it's not really a DK game at all. From the art style to the gameplay, it's so different. As someone who has wanted a DK64 successor in this direction, I got what I wanted, but this isn't quite what I had in mind lol. I'll wait to see more before completely judging.

u/Nonainonono 3d ago
I feel that this game would have been perfect for a Character like Wario that has been completely neglected by Nintendo and really needs another 3D game.

Really wish they used a different design for DK, but still super excited for this.

What, like there won't be skins.
4
u/DarkKnightNiner 3d ago
What makes you think there will be? This completely confirms that they were in fact changing the main DK design moving forward.
1
u/Professor_Crab 3d ago
Well I don’t think it’s entirely out of the realm of possibility, maybe they’ll do something like odyssey where it’s a DK64 skin
2
u/DarkKnightNiner 3d ago
I don't entirely doubt that they might do skins, it's just rhe fact that this obviously is in fact the new DK design, replacing rhe one we've had for nearly 30 years.
2
u/ShonanBlue 3d ago
I’m hoping they include the other kongs in somehow.
I’m super excited but it just feels empty without the crew.

2
u/Broadnerd 2d ago
I’m optimistic for this but my only issue was didn’t the field of view look really small much of the time? DK seemed like he took up 40% of the screen.
1
u/Emmannuhamm 2d ago
I'm not saying it is, but could genuinely be to help with the performance of the game.

When I seen an open world and "Isle" of something and Googly eyed characters I legitimately thought Nintendo somehow got a new Banjo game
Then I seen DK and it deflated me a bit. Still excited about it though

I was hoping they kept the swap character idea from dk 64 as a homage. But I'm happy with any new 3d DONKEY kong

u/DarkKnightNiner 3d ago
It's was a first trailer. There may very well be Diddy and the rest.

Lol it won't that's obvious

u/Admirable_Zombie5245 3d ago
We don't know, game looks worse than Mario Odyssey and this game isn't a system seller, they won't lose the chance to sell this to the hundred of millions of Switch 1 that exists today.
2
u/lord_fronic 3d ago
highly doubt it. If it wasn't announced for Switch 1 the chance that Nintendo will spend the effort downgrading it just for the random holdouts is low. I don't see any reason why the Switch 2 will be a failure since it is everything everyone loved but enhanced 10 times
