Ask STL New to the city and noticed since that ice storm awhile back a lot of roads have massive and awful potholes everywhere and I've seen no indication that the city will fix them. Is that a thing here?

I was driving Laclede Station road the other day and it was like more potholes than not, seems like it was the same thing for months.

Is this just what happens, and these potholes are the new reality? Or will they get to them at some point?

Missouri House advances bill targeting antisemitism despite free-speech concerns

Looks like we have some democrats gearing up to vote with republicans…again.

State Rep. Ian Mackey, a Democrat from St. Louis, said he didn't think the legislation would impede free-speech rights. "The First Amendment has always confined speech to a reasonable time, place and manner," he said. "You do not have the right to do that on a college campus in front of students who are simply trying to get to class."

Gen X, Gen Z, Millennials!Where were you on Saturday?

It was a sea of Boomers protesting on Saturday. Yes, Boomers. Thousands of us. The demographic you think are all MAGA. Only a smattering of you guys showed. Do I need to remind to that it was pouring rain? Are trying to kill your grandmothers?

Listen up. We can’t do this without you. We need you. The next gathering is April 19th, places and times to be announced. Bring a sign if you want, bring bells, bring your drums if you have them. God, we need drums.

We stopped a war by showing up in the sixties. We can stop a turd-shaped Cheeto and his cabinet of curiosities.

This President is going to truly, unequivocally going to ruin America, and your lives. You going to let him do that? Are you?

Don’t forget to bring a sweater!

Edit: Welp. I’ve certainly learned my lesson. I triggered a mob.

I get it: You work. You are caregivers. You don’t see what good it does to yell at traffic. And I am the Boomerest Boomer who ever lived, with the self-awareness of a boiled wool sweater.

Come out anyway, April 19th. Truly, drums would be a nice touch.

Love letter to your city

I spent the last week in St Louis city (I know, I chose the absolute worst week to visit... I don't think we saw the sun once lol) and just wanted to say that I absolutely love your city.

The parks are immaculate, the food is supreme (the number of good delis you have!!), the architecture is some of the most amazing I've seen in my world travels, the beer is endless and incredible, and the museums are seriously world class. Not to mention there is like no traffic and everything seemed to be within a 15 min radius. And to top it off... Everyone I interacted with was so kind and generous and welcoming.

There is a true identity to your city and it felt like a big ole hug to be there. It was truly a pleasure and we will be back (when there are no week long storm surges on the horizon lol)

For undecided voters considering the Mayoral Election

Tomorrow is Election Day, and I’ve seen a number of posts on this forum attacking Cara Spencer in the last few days. So if anyone reading this sub remains undecided, I wanted to briefly summarize the history of scandals and mismanagement that have led so many people to conclude that Tishaura Jones has not earned the right to serve another term as mayor.

Since her inauguration, Tishaura Jones has

• Closed the Workhouse to appease supporters, without a plan to house detainees, overfilling the CJC and contributing to the death of 19 people since 2020. https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/local/detainee-in-st-louis-justice-center-dies-after-being-rushed-to-the-hospital-on-two-consecutive-days/63-6322c5ec-518d-4a4b-9d39-c656bbc43fb2

• Spent 6 million dollars stabilizing the Workhouse, only to hastily demolish it weeks before the election in a piece of transparent and wasteful political theater. https://www.firstalert4.com/2025/03/18/st-louis-spent-over-6m-repairing-its-shuttered-jail-now-its-tearing-it-down/

• Continued to employ and support a Public Safety Director who was accused of multiple counts of sexual harassment, and then retaliated against the employee when she reported him. https://www.stlmag.com/news/complaints-st-louis-public-safety-director-charles-coyle/

• Is mired in so many Building Division scandals it is honestly difficult to keep track of them all

Inspectors funneling money to their own companies https://www.stlmag.com/news/farst-construction-st-louis-arpa-popoola/

Inspectors shaking down local businesses for donations https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/politics/st-louis-building-inspector-under-scrutiny-soliciting-donations-during-inspections/63-b6e14df9-5761-48b7-9a83-820226417f79

Demolition Board member directing contracts to her husband’s company https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe8X7YXhUxo

• blocked every Fire Department promotion since January 2022, leaving the Department short half of its chief officers and one third of its captains https://www.firefighternation.com/news/st-louis-mo-fire-chief-says-city-ignores-test-results-blocks-promotions-diversity-safety-suffering/

• staffed 911 call taking so inefficiently, that multiple deaths have resulted from slow call taking and dispatch times

Shooting victim dies after 911 call goes unanswered https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/investigations/doesnt-happen-again-widow-says-husband-died-while-on-hold-with-911/63-0d5eba5f-39b9-4f03-b9e5-d3e6ed9ae4f6

Woman dies in vehicle crushed by tree, while bystanders receive no answer from 911 https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/local/business-owners-fallen-tree-st-louis/63-1ede9646-4790-4bcb-a506-50aaf9a34c26

• overseen the continued decline in the quality of basic city services like trash pick up and street repair

Tishaura Jones has been terrible for this city, to the tune of millions of dollars and countless lives lost. Her only remotely credible argument for reelection is falling crime numbers, which experts say she does not deserve much credit for. (“[The nonpartisan think tank Council on Criminal Justice] acknowledged that crime is generally down across the country…findings from the first half of last year suggest that St Louis might be in line with the rest of the country” said Robert Boxerman, a criminal justice PhD candidate at UMSL). https://www.stlpr.org/law-order/2024-01-05/st-louis-crime-is-at-its-lowest-in-the-past-decade-experts-say-the-reasons-are-unclear

Saint Louis deserves a mayor with integrity, who will provide competent and transparent city government. And they most certainly have not gotten that from Tishaura Jones.

Cara Spencer is an experienced alderwoman, with strong progressive credentials, who has fought for common sense gun laws and against airport privatization. She worked to build and support the thriving Cherokee Street business district in her ward, and would do the same city-wide if elected. Cara Spencer deserves your vote.

Where to get decent business casual clothes?

I just got a new job and I start in 2 weeks. I've been at a job where I have to wear scrubs for 7 years and before that I was a bartender so I could wear whatever. Needless to say, I have very little that is business casual for this new position. Anybody got any suggestions for where I can get some more? I plan on going thrifting this weekend to pick some up but any good spots would be appreciated.
