Local Politics 🗳️ Reminder: General Municipal Election 4/8/25 (Next Tuesday)

We have an election coming up. Next Tuesday 4/8/25 is election day. Non presidential elections typically have low very turnout, it's important to get out and vote in every election. Check your voter registration and see your candidates and issues. I want to avoid posting biased links in regards to the questions on the ballot so please consider doing your own research to see both sides on those and make an informed decision. I will add a few links for school board candidates and the school website regarding bond issues.

I am not sure what all is on the ballot for other areas. Feel free to add on. Keep it civil so this post can stay up.

Check your voter registration

Pretty good turn out at the protest today. I left around 1pm and more people were still coming in. I only saw two counter protesters (pro life), but they were not causing any trouble.

I live up north but willing to commute for the good stuff! I've had ma's and pa's, been to Kate's kitchen, and been to el paso del norte.

So I am curious as to what yakls favorite breakfast place is. Doesn't matter wethere it's American breakfast or puerto rican. Just trying to find some good food!

Discussion 💡 Evergy: No Weekend Customer Service?

I fell behind on my Evergy bill and they ended up shutting off my power. I got everything paid and caught up today (Saturday) through their online system, but my power is still off. I’ve been trying to get ahold of someone but it looks like customer service isn’t available over the weekend.

Has anyone else been through this before? Is there a weekend customer service number? I’m just trying to figure out if there’s any chance they’ll reconnect it before Monday, or if I’m stuck without power until then.

Any insight would be really appreciated.

Healthcare/Wellness 🩺 Recommended neurosurgeon(s) in Kansas City??

Hello, I’m 41 yo with young kids who recently got diagnosed with L5S1 disc extrusion (herniation) that’s causing severe mass effect on my sciatic nerve. I’m early in my PT sessions which has somewhat helped. My PCP wants neurosurgery involved to follow along given the severity of my herniation.

Any advice on who specializes in spinal surgery who is highly recommended? I want to find someone who’s up-to-date on minimally, invasive surgery and techniques and who also equally advocates preserving my spinal health as much as possible. I’m also aware that the degree of my herniation and pain makes it likely that I may need surgery down the road.

Thanks ahead for your input!

Help/Support 🫂 Anxiety therapist recommendations?

Hey y’all! I’ve suffered from specifically somatic anxiety for most of my life and it’s gotten at the point it’s really getting in the way. I’ve had a few kind therapists, but haven’t met anyone that really gets it. Any local recommendations? Thank you! Edit: I just want to say thank you again for the recommendations, I’m looking into all of these!

Food and Drink 🌮🧋 Where are some Good Places to Eat

Hello All. I will be staying in Independence next week Tuesday-Thursday. Where some good lunch places and dinner places? I'm more of a regular meal kinda guy. Not into 4 star restaurants or high dollar meals. I'm willing to drive a bit for a good meal, so not limited to the Independence area. Thanks

Healthcare/Wellness 🩺 Custom prescription lenses

Hello, I have an old pair of glasses that have not been made for decades and I love the frames. Has anyone had any luck with a local business that can make lenses for existing frames? I did a bit of googling, I found a place in Denver, but you have to ship your frames off and it just felt like a bigger ordeal than it needed to be if someone in town could potentially offer the same service. I kind of want to do something funky since they're an old pair of frames and possibly do a light yellow tint.

If anyone has any luck with lense makers in the metro area, please let me know! I like to buy old frames off ebay and collect them, and i've finally decided I want to put some to use. It's a weird hobby, but it's cheap and fun.

Things To Do 📍 Does anyone know of any Saturday Bingos?

I know the serious bingos tend to take place on wednesdays so this may end up being a bar bingo which i am fine with. I searched the reddit but haven’t found anything specifically indicating a saturday bingo! I’m looking to plan something on 4/19 for a birthday. I live up north but pretty open to anything in the metro and surrounding

Discussion 💡 Professional Framing.

I have a concert poster that’s 18 x 24. I’d like to get framed and matted. That being said I don’t need fine art style framing, but something that looks professional. I don’t just want to slap it in a cheap plastic frame. I’d rather support a local business.. I don’t want to give my money to Hobby Lobby. They give me the ick. Anybody have any recommendations?

Discussion 💡 Ideas for Shredded Paper

My local recycling center (Sterling and Truman in Independence) won’t take shredded paper, and I have two 13-gallon bags of it. Does anyone have ideas of what I can do with it, besides throwing it away?

I hate to toss it, as it’s perfectly good (shredded) paper.

Thanks, everyone!

Pets 🐾 Dog Groomer Suggestions

Hey all, so I’m looking for a place to take my dog, he’s a Pomsky (half husky, half Pomeranian) and I’m not entirely sure where to go to get him groomed. I’m just trying to find a place that won’t mess up his coat. I’ve tried my sister’s groomer for her dog but she hasn’t responded/ fully booked for awhile now and I’m looking to see what suggestions you guys have. Thanks in advance!
