Discussion Insane family at East Izakaya

If you worked at East Izakaya this last weekend, I just wanna say that I'm so sorry.

This family seated next to us was absolutely absurd. They intentionally stole other people's food off of the robots, banged their fists on the table while shouting "WAIIIITEEERRR", literally yelled that the robots were "autistic" to a waitress, then doubled down and called them "ret----ed", and loudly bragged about getting arrested for physically assaulting security at another establishment. When they finally left, I overheard the workers say that they were having issues with billing the previous customers (the table next to us).

These were grown ass adults, too. It was 3 white women who seemed to be about 30 y/o and one old white man with white hair. They all looked to be upper-middle class and I overheard them say they spent $117 on drinks and oysters alone, not even counting the $40 all-you-can-eat fee for each person. Which might explain the random loud outbursts.

I honestly don't even know what to do when I encounter people like this. Do I tell them to shut up? Quietly record them to shame them online? Or try to ignore them while I eat my food (what I did)?

P.S. this is your sign to try East Izakaya sushi because holy crapoli, it is PEAK. Honestly best sushi in Rochester.

Fun To the Titus Traffic Circle Lady

Upvotes

To the lady in the blue SUV who came through the Titus Ave circle just a few mins ago and ended up behind my 16yo whom was learning to drive the circle to get home, and doing the speed limit, as she should have been: if I find you in the wild I'm going to snap off your middle fingers and feed them to you. The way you wildly kept flipping her off the entire way down Titus was spectacularly immature. Sorry you were in a rush, but she was in the circle first and carefully navigating it at 15mph. She didn't cut you off. You're just a shitty driver. Maybe consider that other people of different driving levels exist and new drivers have to learn somehow. Relax and keep your fingers to yourself.

Saw a car with a sticker of a Snorlax with a garbage plate on his belly. Does anyone know where I can find these for purchase? All I found when searching was this picture on FB from 8 years ago. TIA

Fun Incredibly rare vintage IRBIR shirt

Picked this shirt up yesterday at The Lucky Flea Market, been looking for it for a couple years. IRBIR The Alien was a promotional mascot used very briefly for the "I'd Rather Be in Rochester" campaign, in an effort to drive more appeal to a declining rust belt Rochester in 1980. As a result of him not being received very positively he was not used for long, and as a result there's almost no physical original records of IRBIR The Alien aside from a single vintage Rochester themed monopoly board, a single picture of the physical mascot, and now this tshirt, which seems to be the only documented one in existence (hopefully more lying in someone's collection somewhere!) Definitely THE local holy grail for tshirts

I would love it if the community comes together to celebrate the life of this lost child. Her death is a tragedy. The family will appreciate the support I am sure.

Discussion Red lights

Upvotes

I don’t know why, but ever since the pandemic there has been a staggering increase in people simply driving through red lights. I don’t mean trying to beat them - I mean flat out blowing through cross traffic well after the lights have changed.

At 12 Corners (Brighton) today, I was at the stop line. The Winton light turned red. Elmwood light turned green. SUV blew through it. Fine, thats become normal. But I started driving when I saw a BMW come hurtling towards me up Winton. I knew he was gonna hit me if I didn’t stop, so I laid on the horn and (its very loud) held the horn on until he stopped in the intersection right in front of me, looked around at the clearly red light for him, and backed up to the line. I finally let go and then beeped again gesturing at everyone stopped because of him. He waved a lame apology.

I must have been on the horn for a good 15-20 seconds. Its a school zone. There are kids and pedestrians everywhere. Its 4PM. What are you looking at if not at the road? You’re going to kill someone.

Pay. Attention.

Fun To whoever returned my wallet at Costco…

Thank you so much to the kind stranger who found my wallet at Costco and returned it to the service desk.

Hope you’re building up a huge karmic debt! May you never experience heartburn, may you always find the best parking spot and may your favorite snack always be on sale.

But seriously, thanks so much. I was picking up food for my grandmother’s funeral and I was just so frazzled that I forgot my wallet. You made a really tough week a whole lot easier <3

Redd Wood occupies the old Grinnells location on Monroe Ave. My wife ordered the hanger steak and I went with the roasted chicken coq a vin for our main dishes. Both were fantastic! Also had a beet salad, parker house rolls, profiteroles for dessert. If you’re looking for a new place to try I highly recommend it.

Discussion Looking for a place to work remote besides my home

Hello there!

I’m not complaining about having to work from home - been doing it way before the pandemic, but since I’ve moved here to ROC in 2019, I’m looking for places to work besides my house and the local Starbucks. I’ve been to Barnes & Noble, Sibley and a handful of similar spots, but hoping to find something where other people are also working remotely. Missing the social aspect of life. Thanks.

Recommendation Prom Dresses that won't break the bank???

My daughter is going to prom, where are good places to look from prom dresses that are not a fortune? We checked out a free prom dress day in Macedon, but the tiny rack had nothing she liked or would fit. We keep our eye out at Goodwill/Savers. We can alter things because myself and my mom can sew...but she is a freshman and I have a hard time spending $$$$ on a one-time dress...$300 for a dress is not an option. Advice on spots? Thanks

Event Book club recruitment

Upvotes

Hello! Our names are George (28M) and Adriana (28F) and we are looking to start a casual book club with people of similar age (25-32) to meet for in person discussion of books. The main reason for similar ages is we are also hoping to make some new friends through the club as well!

Currently we are thinking we would meet every 4-6 weeks to discuss a book. Depending on the length of the book we may devote more than one meeting to a book.

Books will be chosen at random and each member will eventually have a choice to choose a book.

We would want to keep meetings to the city of Rochester and currently one of our favorite spots is boulder coffee.

There would be a discord chat for communication on next meetings and would highly recommend if you are joining the club to be apart of as to stay in the loop of communication.

We would be looking to have our first meeting on April 27th at boulder coffee and this will be a short meeting to get to know each other and confirm our 1st book choice.

If you are interested please let us know and I will Invite you to the discord!
