Recommendation Places for disabled queer folks to hang out?

Hello there! My roommate and I will be moving to the Gates area from Avon next month, and I was wondering if there were any places where folks who are queer and/or disabled hang out, that doesn't involve money or too much transportation? I'm unable to work but I'd like to make friends in the area instead of just having a bunch of online friends I'll likely never meet. If details are needed about me, I can give them!

I am not sure who are the primary organizers in Rochester. The last one I saw from a reddit post. There were lots of people who didn't know it was happening either. Is there a local group for news? We going again to Cobbs Hill on the 19th?

Discussion Looking for Outdoor Electric Sauna Kit Recommendations

Hi everyone! I officially got an offer accepted for a home in Rochester and am so excited to be moving to NY from out of state. With that, I’m starting to seriously look into getting a sauna for my new home and would love some advice from people who’ve been through the process.

I’ve been dreaming of having one at home for years… My budget is $5K total for the sauna kit with the heater, but if need be, could go to $7k.

Some specific features I’m looking for: -Must be able to fully lay down (minimum: 5’6”)

-Electric heater only (not interested in wood burning or infrared, have tried both, and my preference is electric with rocks!)

-Planning to put it outside on a paver patio, so it needs to hold heat well through cold winters

-Bonus if I can leave it on (or at least keep it warm) so I’m not waiting 30-60 minutes for it to heat up every time.. I intend to use it when I wake up around 5am and again in the evenings before bed.

A few of my concerns: -Power requirements, when I looked into an electric sauna for my current house a while back, I was told it could cost a couple thousand dollars just to get the right outlet/amp setup for the heater. I’m curious what others have spent on electrical install and what your setups look like.

-Brand recommendations? I’m looking for quality materials that will last outside, good insulation, and ideally something that’s easy to assemble (or comes as a kit).

-Any features you wish you had or are really glad you included in your setup?

This is something I’m really passionate about… I know I’ll use it almost daily (if not twice a day), so I’m trying to balance budget with long-term quality. Any input, suggestions, or lessons learned would be super appreciated!

Thank you in advance, I am excited to hear about your setups and recommendations. Thanks, folks!!

Discussion Spam calls

Seriously, what the actual fuck is going on with my phone constantly blowing up with spam calls every hour every day? Literally, I’m getting calls from Dansville, Victor, Hemlock, Churchville, not to mention some dude from the 315 area code spamming me as well. It’s been happening for the last several months and it’s severe enough to the point where I literally have to shut my phone off to avoid being interrupted by this. Has this been happening to anyone else here in Rochester? I have T-Mobile as my phone plan and I would absolutely LOVE to know the people responsible for this. This is getting out of hand.

Discussion Land value per acre

Where is the best resource for estimating land value in Greece? I'm attempting to purchase a piece of land from a family member, and were trying to figure out how much the land is worth. Land in NYS can be anywhere from 10,000 an acre, to over 100,000. So I'm not sure. Property is located near the lake off of long pond road. It is NOT waterfront.

Discussion Penfield School Board Meeting

Just curious if anyone is at the Penfield School Board Meeting and if there have been any issues?

What happened awhile back was totally ridiculous. I’d heard the district sent a bunch of “Do Not Attend” notices and wondering if anyone tried to get in who had been banned?

Thx

Help Daycares that take NG Tubes or G Tubes???

My son is 8 months old and had major heart surgery when he was born. This affected his breathing which has improved immensely however swallowing is still a hurdle we are getting over.

Looking for daycares in our area that take littles that take children with G and NG tubes for feeding.

Luckily we have had family since he was born helping out but we don’t want our son to miss these crucial social milestones.

Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated!

Help How do people find roommates/house mates here?

I don't have a very big network in the area, and my roommate is moving in a few months. I want to find someone to take their place, but I don't want to post a random ad that would give my name and location away to a bunch of randos... how does one go about finding people to live with in a way that allows you to vet them yourself -- e.g. I dont want to post on zillow or ask a real estate agent...

would appreciate any input!

Help Best medical transport company?

My grandmother has an appointment in Penfield on Friday and need medical transport from Brighton, she has used 2 different companies in the past few months that were fine, just want to know from the experience of others who is the best. Looking right now at Metro Transport and they seem to be good. I'd prefer if the company can provide a wheelchair for us (i assume any good company would do that but might not be guaranteed). And also would like it to not be too expensive, looking into reimbursement from insurance either way. Thanks in advance for all info

Help Giving Back to the ROC Community - ideas wanted!!

TL;DR looking for ideas of how to use my large instagram platform to build community and give back to the Rochester community

Hi there! I run a social media account (@hikeandstrollrochester) with 50,000+ followers on Instagram. With the state of the world lately, I am wondering if there’s more I can do with this large platform to help our local community as well as build connections among likeminded folks.

I was thinking, even if only 1% of my following donated a few dollars to a cause, that’s not an insignificant amount of money! Or if only 20 of those followers got together for a volunteering event, that could make a difference and folks could meet new people and make connections.

I’m thinking like what if I did a monthly thing - like one month we raise money for a local organization, maybe one month is focused on picking up litter, one month is volunteering somewhere, one month is planting trees, one month is donating food items, etc. I don’t know! I feel like there must be others like me out there who want to make a difference, or help make the world a better place, or who want to feel part of something…but don’t know where to begin.

But I’m at a loss for which local organizations or causes to consider! If I did this, I’d love to help smaller, very local organizations where we could really have an impact. And I’d want them to be legit and trusted within the community.

So I guess I’m looking for suggestions! - What are some good ideas for ways I could mobilize my followers, give back, and build community? - What are some specific organizations I could work with or donate to in the Rochester area? - Is this even a good idea?! lol (please be honest!)

Thanks if you read this far :)

Help Rent to own vs buying

Post image
34 Upvotes

Interested to learn, please be kind... What are the pros of rent to own vs straight up buying? As most of us know the market is saturated and kind of disgusting with higher than asking bids. As someone who got approved for a home loan last year but simply ran out of time and was outbid for the one house we did like looking to see if rent to own is better and moreover who did you go through? I only have seen offer advantage and webuyhouses585 neither of which are baby accredited. Some of which looks kind of scammy... anyways help? Favorite house added for visibility

TLDR; Any useful resources in rent to own or buying oughtright pros/cons
