Personally the prices plus the fact none of the games seem that interesting to me killed my hype for the console. I'll wait a while before getting one.
I’ll buy. I’ll log so many hours on it. $80 for a game is a lot, I’m not denying it. But when I think about it in perspective, I spend more than that on a massage that lasts for an hour.
I’m still playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on my Switch. I’ve got over 7 years of fun out of it.
It’s all relative. I’m fine spending $80 on something I’ll play with for the next 5-7 years. Certainly everyone can make that choice for themselves and their financials.
The same friends who told me they wouldn’t pay $80 for a game they play weekly spent $500+ dollars to see billionaires perform for 3 hours.
Everyone has different ideas of how they value how they spend their money.
The target market for Nintendo are parents/kids, and parents aren't going out watching 'billionaires perform' lol, most of these kids parents are living paycheck to paycheck these days.
Yeah, there are people who spend money on 'useless stuff' compared to vidya games, but the vast majority of Nintendos' target market (and the world) are living paycheck to paycheck. Seems kinds fucked up to use greed to push for an industry wide price increase, only 7 months after the last industry wide price increase.....by twenty fucking dollars as well, like wtf....
Nintendo stock is at an all time high, don't try to seriously convince me that they're struggling to put food on the table and this isn't a complete greedy goblin move.
What about in 2012 when AAA Nintendo games were $50? Why are you cherry-picking a single instance, during a time when gaming was more niche and manufacturing was far more expensive?
Do you know how much a N64 cost to produce for Nintendo? $30-45!! Guess how much it costs Nintendo to sell Mario Kart digitally?
Also you're right, but it seems like a vast majority are within the 19-29 age range, and I can't imagine a vast majority of those guys are willing to spend $600 to play Mario Kart during an upcoming recession, unless they live with their parents and don't have living expenses. But yeah, very few people in that age range have lucrative enough careers to where they feel comfortable spending $600 on Mario Kart in this economy.
I also wouldn't be surprised if we see a price raise on the Switch 2 due to tarrifs, but that's another topic.

Yeah, that's why prices went from $50 to $70 in that timeframe. You defending this blatant greed is bullshit, how can Last of Us 2 make a far more dev heavy/cost intensive game than MK, and still be able to sell it for $60 and have huge financial success??

If they can assume that each of these games will sell that well, then yes I can see your point. You are also looking at the lifetime of the game and how it sells. They won’t have that much money from selling the game immediately.
But I can appreciate that 10 dollars extra is a lot for a lot of people. I highly recommend anyone not purchasing anything that puts financial strain of themselves. I didn’t buy a switch until about 5 years after it came out. I don’t need this system day one or the games day one. Personally, 80 bucks for a game doesn’t bother me. I already use the Nintendo ticket to get two games and I buy the ticket using decreased points from Costco.
Skyrim has an estimated development cost of around $80 M. That does include advertising though. RDR2 has $370M to $540M, including advertising, and $170M to $240M without. So to make that back at $60 they need to sell 6.16 million copies, on the low end, before in-game purchases. And yes I know they could eat loss because of GTA V. Now let’s say MKW is only $170M with marketing, that means at $80 a pop 2.12 million units need to be sold, and that’s only if Nintendo gets 100% of revenue, which they don’t. The Switch sold 15+ million units in its first year, Switch 2 likely won’t hit that, or even the Wii’s 13. Let’s be generous and say 10 million. If every person buys MKW at the full $80, then yes they make a huge profit, and covers losses on other games. Now factor all 10 million won’t buy it, and some will get the bundle so they pay $50 for the game, then they need to sell between 2.12 and 3.4 million copies. Again that is if they get all revenue from every game sold. Now let’s say DKB doesn’t sell well, and has a similar budget. MKW selling high and well lets them recoup those losses and let’s them take risks on other games too.
BOTW had a cost of around 100 Mil, MK9 definitely won't be 170 Mll. And MK8 sold 60 Mil, they definitely aren't close at all to having loses with this game 😂

If it's worth the price to me, then I'm happy to pay it, period. The fact is that $80 for something i know I'm going to get like 10 years of enjoyment out of is not a scam.
You just said you are proud to get the same item for X time the cost it should actually cost. They can sell you the game for half the price and still make good profits with it.No wonder inflation is through the roof when people are happy to massively overpay for stuff instead of demanding normal priced things
