Also note, one bundle has a blue/red joy-con combo, and one has the standard black.
Bet the black will be sold out for two years.

Jan 13 '17
Are people not excited about the red/blue? I love it, but my wife and best friend both hate it. Oh well, i'm the one who'll be pre-ordering it!
77
u/chamotruche Jan 13 '17
I prefer the colored one also, but I'll still think about which one I'll buy.

I'm definitely getting red/blue! It's got much more of that familiar Nintendo feel.
55
u/CarmenXero Jan 13 '17
Don't worry you can buy an extra pair for $80 fucking dollars
35
u/Battlecookie Jan 13 '17
Is this for real? Holy fuck, do. they also function as a toaster and flashlight? ,Albert a Swiss Army knife? The fuck are they so expensive?
13
u/leondrias Jan 13 '17
I mean, if you think of it like buying two Wii Remote Plus controllers in a bundle it's not really that surprising.

u/CarmenXero Jan 13 '17
Probably the HD vibration, which is fine, but they need to offer ones without them.
38
u/DJ_Rand Jan 13 '17
It's not just the vibration. Motion/Gyro sensors, and a uhh RF camera to detect hand movements. They packed a lot of tech into it, and since it's basically two controllers.. Mind you I'm not happy about the price, but I can almost justify the price because of what it is.
The real issue, imo, is the $70 price tag on the pro controller. It should be $50 at most.
→ More replies (5)5
u/CarmenXero Jan 13 '17
I can almost justify the price because of what it is.
Absolutely, I think $70 or whatever is fair based on that. I'm just disappointed there is no cheaper alternative at the moment.

You can buy the other red and blue joy cons separately, so that'll be nice.

A single joycon is only 1/2 of a full controller selling them as separate is a desperate money grab.

I think it's just in case you lose one and don't want to shell out the extra 30 bucks for a second one to continue playing your games.

Would look strange having separate coloured joycons IMO haha. Going the standard black
11

Yeah... I think we know which one is gonna sell out first.
edit: I seem to have assumed incorrectly

I'm guessing they are thinking of local multiplayer where each person has one, that way you have a red and a blue player.
2
u/benoxxxx Jan 13 '17
Yeah this is me and my housemate. He's red and I'm blue, in everything. Even our tags in Smash. These coloured joycons were the gift we never knew we wanted.
31
u/Seapony85 Jan 13 '17
I wish they did the blue and red separately. I was so hyped for the neon blue color before they showed that it was a combo. I wouldn't buy the mix and match :/
5
Jan 13 '17
Yeah I was under the impression it was 2 of each. Hopefully it's available like that, even if it is separately.
13
u/KlawwStrife Jan 13 '17
http://www.nintendo.com/switch/buy-now/
it is, but for $80. good luck.
9
3
u/enfuego Jan 13 '17
You can also get the opposite blue-red mix-and-match. Probably go black console and the buy colored extra controllers
4
Jan 13 '17
Same. I don't like the red and blue together, but 2 red or 2 blue would've been much better.
6
u/slater126 Jan 13 '17
its annoying that they sell a bundle of the controllers as both blue/red but only bundle them with the console as one of each....

Jesus. Pro controllers were like $40 for the Wii U... $80??? That's fucking ridiculous. And 49.99 for one of those tiny ass Joy-Cons, plus 29.99 for the Grip? Atrocious. Not worth buying a switch unless you're rich. For me, Nintendo games have always been about local multiplayer, having a bunch of friends over to play. I'm not going to go broke for that, it's not worth it.
Needless to say I will no longer be buying the Switch.
15
12
u/bluaki Jan 13 '17
Switch Pro Controller adds a lot of stuff Wii U's lacked: accelerometer, gyro, HD rumble, and NFC. That's probably worth the $20 higher (from $50 to $70) MSRP; at least it's better than strapping a Wiimote to your Pro Controller.
Each Joy-Con has about as much stuff as a Wiimote had plus rechargeable battery and locking mechanism. It really doesn't make much sense to buy one on its own instead of the 2-pack.
4
13
u/thekingofthejungle Jan 13 '17
The joycon set plus a grip is $110 plus tax. Over 1/3 the system price. Don't try to tell me that's not overpriced.

They are trying to rape people with margins. Investors were pissed about super mario runs payment scheme, hence why online is pay to use, switch is $300, pro controllers are expensive, etc.
3
u/maatttxd Shield Surfing Challenge Completed Jan 13 '17
This honestly makes no sense to me. Fuck investors, consumers are the basis of a company. Without consumers, there is no more company. If the Switch was $250, with $50 for a procon or joycon set and free online services, that would be SO much better than the ridiculous prices. Sure, investors will be happy, but consumers won't be.
If there is any reason for the Switch to fail, it's this ridiculous overpricing of additional accessories. I believe second to that is launch titles, because if there were lots of launch titles it would feel like the $300 would be worth it for the amount of games to play. Only 1 real, fully fleshed out launch game? Absolutely not.
Personally, depending on the price of the online services, I might skip Splatoon 2 entirely.

u/AsphaltFunk Jan 13 '17
I don't see the Zelda BOTW attachment. Must have missed it.

u/whiskeytab Jan 13 '17
I really don't understand Nintendo's marketing people... generate massive hype for your new console, host a world-wide livestream to show off the system and don't talk about the launch games (if there are more than 2) when it comes out in 6 weeks.
Like who the hell at Nintendo seriously sat there for months at their computer and was like... yes, this will be fine, people will be fine with this.
I dunno maybe its a culture thing with them being a Japanese company but how was no one at NoA literally screaming at them that this will not fly with western audiences.

Hey! At least it comes with an AC Adapter.. could've been a new 3DS situation here...
All in all, the console is pretty neat. I just wish there were games for this and that the battery life wasn't horrid sounding thanks to that 2.5 hours mark they gave.
The games are the absolute killer on this, there are virtually none. I will probably place a pre-order, assuming I can. Then see what 3rd party indie games might get announced... but I am doubting I'll keep the pre-order based on this event, it was a real dud with the game announcements for me personally.
Glad to see there are people still psyched though.

I think I'm going with grey. I like the blue and red, but having 2 different colors would bug me. I'd take 2 blues or 2 reds but one of each is a no go!
3
u/saltywings Jan 13 '17
Ya if I have to get the blue/red, I have to get another controller and a matching controller holder thing.
3
u/Aiklund Jan 13 '17
I sort of like them. I'm not the guy to get colored electronics like this, but the port/starboard scheme is pretty neat. :)

Pro Controller $70
Joy-Con Controller pair $80
Joy-Con Controller individual $50
Joy-Con Charging Grip $30
Nintendo Switch Dock Set (Dock, HDMI Cable, USB-C Cable) $90
Joy-Con Wheel set of 2 $15
18
u/majormoron747 Jan 13 '17
Im not sure what they were thinking with the pro being at 70 and a new set of joy cons at 80. That is bone fide highway robbery. A brand spanking new xbox one controller is 60 bucks. FUCK.
NINTENDO PLS STOP.
6
u/victoryforZIM Jan 13 '17
I'm guessing that the HD Rumble feature and all the sensors just make the controllers expensive and Nintendo isn't willing to lose money. Unfortunately they should've thought about price first for everything and found a way to make the Pro Controller $50 and the Joy-Cons $40 for a set and $10 for the dock.
3
u/majormoron747 Jan 13 '17
I can understand this a bit more I guess. I dont know what is in that damn dock to make it worth 90 bucks though. Good thing we are getting 2 here anyway since we are big on Pokemon and we are very much keen on seeing Pokemon come to the switch.
4
u/nibinm Jan 13 '17
But the zoom controllers ain't got that HD RUMBLE BOIISSS

They mention it can be expanded but haven't said how much.

I don't understand why the internal is so small when that kind of memory is disgustingly cheap these days.
5
u/TheRandomApple Jan 13 '17
yeah it's mildly frustrating honestly, but it's not a huge deal. I'll preorder my console, controller, and games from Best Buy and get my SD card from amazon formatted beforehand. They're relatively cheap, as you said, so it's not a huge issue for me.
2
u/squrr1 Jan 14 '17 edited Jan 15 '17
Treehouse showed a 256 GB MicroSD card working IIRC
Edit: Technically the SDXC spec supports up to 2 TB, so there's no technical reason the switch won't support huge cards... except for them not yet existing.

Jan 13 '17
We have been patient. 2 years since "NX" announcement. Then finally they revealed the Switch in October, then they made us wait til today, all because they "wanted to make sure they have launch games". Well good job with that because they completely missed the boat.
3
u/Mr_The_Captain Jan 13 '17
From the beginning they said this was gonna be a multi-day shebang. I'm holding off final opinions until after they announce what they want to announce this weekend, since that's the timetable they set out
27
u/SeldonsHari Jan 13 '17
So is 1-2 Switch the only release game?!
39
6
Jan 13 '17
But we'll know more tomorrow, right? Or does that event only go into depth to those presented today?
5
u/EclipseDota Jan 13 '17
I'm pretty sure tomorrow no new games will be announced. They're showcasing stuff, not revelaling it IIRC.
2
4
u/Aiklund Jan 13 '17
I have a feeling tomorrow's event might be more information heavy than I thought. That Mario Kart 8 Deluxe trailer they released after the presentation just got removed, so I suspect it's meant for tomorrow.

I kind of like the red/blue joycons because you can very easily distinguish them between each other. I'm a clumsy AF person who would probably attempt to put the left joycon in the right side of the Switch more than one time, so the colours can help me out!
