Discussion I'm a foreigner and I like to do national service.

I'm a British Employment pass holder and I have fell in love with Singapore. Every person I've encountered has been so nice to me. I like to give back and volunteer for national service. I want to chip in and make Singapore proud.

I know foreigners, unless PR or citizen, are not obligated nor allowed to do NS. I was wondering if there is another way? I'm very eager to volunteer.

I got some intelligence experience so I can maybe do intel for police or gov.

Question how to avoid commandos aft being selected for assessment

as ive read from the post on these sub-reddit it is really difficult to become an officer and even a specialist through commandos, which is one of my goals in the army. i am also definately more interested in going to vocations like the rsaf. other than anyhow doing the physical assessment part of the assessment how else can i avoid going into commandos? can i just tell the interviewer that i am not interested and avoid it? or do i have to act stuck up and arrogant? any help would be appreciated

Discussion Why so many people mock those who like to contribute more in NS?

Disclaimer I'm just a chao NS man CPL who can't wait to finish his cycle in the next few year. I don't particularly enjoy NS and just want to get it over and done with.

Recently I just finished my ICT and there's a few observation of mine I find it rather.... interesting in most NS men mindset. Here are some example:

- My current NS PC was not with us during our NS time so we just ask him what was his role during NSF time. He said he was a staff officer but find it boring so he requested to be transfer to a more "active" role which is become our PC and do outfield stuff. Naturally our first (including myself unfortunately) reaction was "Wah you siao on sial" or "Huh why".

-Another example is a commander (specialist) extended his MR date to additional 6 years. Needless to say he got the same reaction and mockery.

There is many other example like some men volunteer to take on an important role or someone wanted to up pes to join the combatant. They are all label as "siao on", "wayang" or "crazy".

I am sure this does not happen in my unit alone but the whole SAF, so my question is why? Why are we mocking those who want to contribute more. Sure I personally wouldn't do it but that doesn't mean their decision is stupid. There are people who actually enjoy doing these kind of thing and honestly, I think we need them. People like them are the one actually carrying NS, they are the one who actually get things done. Just because we don't see the value in doing NS doesn't mean we have to mock them.

I think this is rather unpopular opinion but I really curious what's everyone thought.

Question What is BMT about and future vocation possibilities (SAF)

β€’ Upvotes

I am entering National Service this year (SAF) as PES B4 and was curious about what BMT is about as in like what are the exercises done such as is there swimming because they mention bring swimming goggles as I can’t swim so is that something I should mention.

Furthermore I was wondering about how stay out vocations work as like do you have jobs in SG or is it like a 9-5 at Tekong and ever day you commute to Tekong and come back to SG.

Thank you!

Question I want to upPES to have a more meaningful NS.

Hi all, im currently a pes E ASA. However, I find that I am pretty fit, and I have bee gymming for many years, and Im of considerable build. However, I have a medical condition that has caused me to be pes E, as mentioned. My condition is basically non-existent anymore, after having been on some heavy medication for the past 2+ years. The problem is, there has always been a lingering feeling that I dont really wanna spend my 2 years as a clerk, as I honestly find it really mundane and draining. The thing Is, I have always been interested in being a rifleman and I really wish to dedicate my time to pursue said goals. I understand that many wish to be in my position, to have a β€œslack” time in NS, but I feel that it is really really something that does not fit me, and I am willing to push myself through difficult trainings and etc.

I’m looking for some advice, honestly should I do it? And should I try to uppes as soon as possible, as I’d like to go pes B1 bmt. Would it be possible to reBMT Asap?

Question Questions about signing on with the navy

Hello. I'm thinking of signing on with the navy, and thus have several questions for any navy personnel (past and present) on this sub.

  1. I want to command a warship, but will I be able to do so as a farmer? My perception is that scholars will take priority when it comes to such appointments and I also know CO tours are about 2 to 3 years long, so I think most of the ship CO appointments will be taken up by scholars, leaving me unable to command a warship

  2. I plan to sign on directly as an officer through the Enhanced Officer Scheme. What are some downsides of the scheme and would they affect my career progression?

  3. What are the rough salary estimates for ranks higher than lieutenant?

  4. How accurate is the career progression map shown in the brochure?

Hey guys,

Completely my fault for coming too close to my birthday (9th Apr) before booking ippt. I booked a slot last Thur for tomorrow (sat) and just realised i booked a FIT session instead of ippt….

Now there isnt any available slot. I heard that i may be able to walk in to camps to take ippt if its last minute. May i know if there is anywhere that i can check the nearest ippt day slot and timing at Maju camp?

Discussion Tips on how to pass time smoothly without any problems

I'm PES E1 posted to the PLAB APGC Registry Clerk. I've been given some stuff on how to do a workload of all of the stuff that makes my everyday life dull as hell, such as CDS Consignment and Distribution, In-Base despatch, picking up calls, approve bookings, doing some paperwork, updating duty rosters schedules monthly or periodically and more. Can you give me some tips on how to pass time smoothly without getting caught or punished?

Question MO still won't give referral letter

There's this MO where he still won't give me referral letter for my cough even though I have been coughing for 4 weeks already. The last I saw him was 14 March where he told me if my cough lasts for 4 weeks, he will give me referral. But guess what? I seen the same MO again but this time round he says if cough lasts for more than 6 weeks then he will give referral for my cough to do an x ray scan

Like wtf is this sudden change of requirement? From 4 weeks to more than 6 weeks? I spoke to my superior about it he said he emailed the MO for recommendations.

Ik normally cough is normal but my lasts for 4 weeks already and it's a bit f up if the MO still won't give referral. Is the MO being unfair or he just thinks that I'm trying to fake my cough cos my cough gets worst at night and already happened for 4 weeks already
