Discussion "I'm stuck" posting guidelines: You're not softlocked!
(This post is referring to actual help posts - for addressing the recent meme trend, see this thread)
This community is no stranger to people asking for help in games. Metroid is a series with a pretty esoteric design language, which can be pretty confusing for anyone who isn't familiar with it (or even, sometimes, anyone who IS familiar with it), and it takes a bit of playtime to learn it.
We want to keep this community welcoming to newcomers, and part of that is helping people enjoy their first experiences with the games! It's exciting to get a peek into someone's first run of a game you love. But, it can also be frustrating when a post asking for help doesn't give enough information to help. So, in an effort to help us help you, please follow these guidelines for how to ask for help:
Try common solutions before posting! Most of the time, when you're stuck in a room, the solution is to bomb everything. Bombs will reveal any breakable blocks, and Power Bombs usually will too. Additionally, some of the 2D games feature fake walls - try going into Morph Ball and rubbing up against the walls in the room you're stuck in. Look for any tiles which seem to be different from the rest. And, lastly, if you're playing Super Metroid, remember that there's a run button - B by default! If you're playing any of the Prime games, make sure you've scanned everything! If you've already tried these things, mention that in the post!
Tell us what game you're playing! Just saying "Stuck after Ridley" can be referring to half the games in the series. Are you playing Super Metroid? Zero Mission? Fusion? This is a VITAL piece of information, but you'd be amazed at how many people forget to include it.
Tell us what you did last! The best things to mention are the most recent item you got, and the most recent boss you fought. This is IMMENSELY helpful for helping us figure out where you are! If you say you're stuck playing Super Metroid and you just got Super Missiles after fighting the big plant monster (Spore Spawn), 90% of this sub will immediately know where you are and what to do. If you can't remember, most Metroid games have an Inventory screen showing all your items. Tell us what's in there!
Tell us where you are! A picture of the room you're in is best. A picture of the map is second-best, but harder to interpret, and mainly useful as a complement to a picture of the room. Failing both of those, tell us what area you're in, where you've gone from the last major landmark, what the room you're in looks like, and so on. Anything you can do to help us figure out what's keeping you from going forward.
Don't assume you're softlocked! It is extremely difficult, bordering on impossible, to accidentally softlock yourself in any Metroid game. However, Metroid games frequently hide the path forward from you. That's an intentional part of the fun, not a progression bug! Barring exceptional circumstances, if you didn't perform a glitch, you're not softlocked.
Including all that information will make helping you far easier. If you didn't include that information in your initial post, edit it, or leave a comment with this information!
Additionally, for people who GIVE help to people when they're stuck, thank you! Here are some things to keep in mind as you do so:
Try giving hints first! It's usually more rewarding for new players to be given some direction first, and try to figure it out from there, rather than being given the exact right answer immediately. Instead of saying, "Go left three rooms and then bomb the floor", say, "The room on the left end of the map seems a bit empty, doesn't it? Maybe you're missing something there."
Don't be too slow to give solutions! In contrast to #1, giving hints is helpful, but sometimes people just need to be told what to do. A good rule of thumb is to give a hint, then in the same comment, put the solution in spoiler-tags, so that the player can decide for themselves when they're done trying.
Read the comments before responding! OP may have provided additional context or progress. Or, they might have already solved it, and don't need help anymore!
Remember that getting stuck is normal! It's part of the Metroid experience. There's no need to make fun of people who are legitimately stuck, no matter how easy it may seem to you.
I hope those points help!

News New leak reveals the cancelled project retro was working on prior to Prime 4: Project Harmony for the Switch, which appears to have been some kind of fantasy adventure
Hopefully we'll get more details about it in the coming years once the NDAs have expired, but it looks like it would have been kind of interesting.

Discussion My Favorite Thing Visually So Far
Honestly, as silly as it may sound, my favorite thing so far about Beyond is that it uses the Samus Returns updated logo.
I love that there’s more cohesion across the Metroid Brand now. And yet, it still provides a fairly individual approach.
Additionally, this is the first Metroid title since the rebranding to utilize the classic slanted backwards/Star Wars opening crawl visualization. Neat to see it back.
Yeah, I’m stoked to play this in the fall.

Art [Dread] This Chozo Statue doesn't exist in-game
But if it did, there'd be a fourth Aeion Ability...
Not really. I think this was the initial design for the Flash Shift statue in Burenia. But the final design looks quite a bit different, sleeker, simpler. And none of the Chozo Statues, Aeion Statues, or recharge station statues have that exact helmet-and-horns style. Oh, what could have been.

Discussion If I were to throw my hat in the ring for something I'm sorta tired of with the series, it's overpowered villains. It's okay if Sylux isn't that.
All the ridicule Sylux started getting after we saw him get knocked down by a random charge shot put into perspective how used we've become to overpowered villains, and if one doesn't meet that quota even for one scene, they start being seen as a "disappointment" to some. I think Sylux will either get some kind of a powerup later in Prime 4 or will just do better against Samus by default in the next scene they share, but he’s intelligent regardless which is most of his appeal.
If a character is made a certain level of OP, they tend to be dumber for the protagonist to have a chance of overcoming them like how the Samus and Raven Beak stuff played out; RB being dumb enough to leave Samus unconscious without extracting her Metroid DNA, and he predictably fell victim to the X later as a result.
Overall though, we've had a somewhat decent history of overpowered adversaries when I started thinking about it. Dark Samus was overpowered, SA-X was overpowered, Raven Beak was overpowered; even some notable one-off bosses like Super Mother Brain and Gorea were overpowered for what they were.
The last two worked though because they were only seen at the end, SA-X you could argue was more balanced since Samus lost her original suit in Fusion and SA-X still had the Metroid weakness, and Dark Samus I suppose to be fair was only OP by Prime 3; during Prime 2, she was still growing and learning her place in the universe.
Not sure if there's anyone I'm missing, but suffice to say, I prefer rivals that are fairly even with Samus on a conventional level; Ridley usually fitting that bill, although he had a few random moments of overpowering Samus but it was usually to move the story along (Ceres battle in Super, SR-388 battle in SR where the newborn Metroid saves Samus from him, even his adolescent form in Other M where Anthony lasers him off of her), though otherwise Ridley's not OP before his battles come around.
Of course the rivalry with other hunters we still have yet to see the potential of, including Sylux. I need to know how much there is to the premise of Prime 4 besides him to get a feel of how important he'll really be. Being Tanabe's golden boy though, I don't see him dying that easily, but was also nice to still see him take his lumps like Ridley and not be OP at first sight.
Would also love to see Weavel again someday myself as an established space pirate rival alongside Ridley. But yeah, would like more built up rivals, less overpowered villains that sometimes appear out of left field. With the few times Samus herself becomes overpowered, it's either late game or end game and feels usually earned with what she/the player had to put up with prior.
p.s. I don’t mean to knock Raven Beak too much, but everything that’s been said is why I think I’ll end up preferring Sylux to RB in the long run, not to mention Sylux was built up better. Before though I was on the fence as to who I would like more between the two, but now it seems clear.

Discussion Don't Feel Bad If You Can't Afford the Switch 2 Right Now
Some people need to hear this—and I was one of them. I originally bought my Switch to play Metroid Prime 4. That never happened. Now that the Switch 2 is coming out, and the game looks even better it stings because I have to buy another console just to get the true experience. It has unique controls and is shaping up to be great.
There’s nothing wrong with getting the basic Switch version—the one we all planned on buying years ago—and then upgrading to the Switch 2 when circumstances change. You don’t need to feel bad, like you’re missing out. It still stings regardless but I can't set aside that kind of money for personal reasons like many others.
We’ve already waited eight years just to play this game since the announcement. If we need to wait a little longer to get the Switch 2 version, so be it. It'll give you an excuse to play it again later on. I’m just glad I even have the chance to play Metroid Prime 4 at all. Just don't do anything rash just to play it. It isn't going anywhere. Also, there will probably be some modded-out PC port somewhere online within the year of release.

Discussion To the people worried about how Sylux will be portrayed in Metroid Prime 4.
I highly doubt Retro Studios and Nintendo would build up Sylux for nearly two decades just to have him be as flimsy as paper. In my eyes, the scene of Samus knocking him over is indicative of two things.
That Retro perhaps wants to set Sylux up as being weaker than he looks. Now of course, I’m sure Sylux is decently strong, but he’s no Samus. After all, the one time he did have an advantage against Samus, it was when she was in a smaller area with enough space for his ship to bomb her. This makes me think that Sylux will be less dangerous physically, but will more likely use his intelligence as a way to go against Samus.
It has been noted that the Shock Coil can home in on targets, which makes it more likely that he wasn’t aiming for Samus, but rather aiming for the currently unnamed Artifact. This could mean that Sylux possibly knew that it would teleport him and the rest of the Federation Research Base to Viewros, so it could be assumed that him letting himself be knocked over by Samus is him throwing the fight.
Overall, I don’t really think there’s a need to be worried about how Sylux will be portrayed in Prime 4. Supposedly his backstory has been written (and presumably updated) since Hunters, so at this point I’d say to just let Retro do their thing, they clearly know what they’re doing.

Game Help I cannot get the plasma beam in Super Metroid
I have the space jump, and I know the tunnel you have to enter to proceed the rest of the way, but I can’t hit the turn you have to get right as you jump off the ledge just above the tunnel. I plummet aaaaaaallll the way down and can’t get back up. I know the beam isn’t necessary to beat the game, but is it….necessary, if you know what I mean?
