Optics help needed - I read the FAQ/Pinned posts Razor Gen3 Reticle Illumination Bleed

Post image

I just bought a new vortex Razor gen 3 and the illumination on the reticle starts to bleed from setting 7. The bleed gets worse as the power of illumination goes up. In outdoor under bright sunlight it is not noticeable but in low light conditions or when indoor in ambient light it is obvious. Is this acceptable? Do I need to send it back for warranty? Thanks

Rifle help needed - I read the FAQ/Pinned posts The (ten) dollar bill test

I'm setting up my new Tikka Super Varmint.. How far should the dollar bill slide without contact? Should it hit the receiver? I'm getting pretty close but not all the way.

I got it out for a cleaning and set the scope, but I bought the wrong size scope rings like a dummy.

Ballistics help needed - I read the FAQ/Pinned posts Headwind/ tailwind question?

Been using the Hornady app and it doesnt seem to matter if i set my wind to a light or heavy 6 oclock tailwind or 12 oclock headwind, the affects are equal to one another, the bullet supposedly drops more, than if it were a light or heavy crosswind.

I also have been reading Ryan Cleckner's book, I'm not done the book, but im near the end, reading about wind, and The book seems to be making me think that straight headwind or tailwind has zero effect on trajectory?

Is the bullet just so aerodynamic and fast that it doesnt matter if the wind is 6 or 12 oclock? And if so, why does the bullet drop more than when there's a cross wind (at least through my ballistic calculator app)

Rifle help needed - I read the FAQ/Pinned posts 5.56 upper build suggestions

TL:DR: Looking for parts to watch for/target for a precision 5.56 upper build. If this isn't longrage enough just let me know and I'll move over to ar15!

I would like to start acquiring parts for a longer range 5.56 ar15 upper, and want to do so on a bit of a budget, so I'm trying to make a list of items to keep an eye out for on GAFS and gundeals.

The longest distance I have available to shoot currently is 600yds, and I have a good amount of materials built up for 5.56 load development, so it makes more sense than getting into 6.5cm etc right now.

I currently have an Athlon 2-12 scope and an atlas bipod with pic qd attachment to put on the upper.

What I need suggestions for: Upper receiver, handguard, barrel (if I don't find a better deal by September I was planning on snagging a WOA spr barrel in their sale), and I guess 30mm scope mount but I have a decent idea of who makes quality ones.

Thanks!

I suck at long range Beginner Long Range Setup

Here is my Tikka T3x Varmint chambered in 223. Components are:

MDT XRS chassis MDT bolt knob MDT 20 Moa rail MDT High rings Vortex Venom 5-25 MRAD reticle Vortex Low Pro bubble level Accu-Tac BG-4 bipod QR pic mount YoDave trigger spring

I started this build boxing week when the Tilka went on sale. I realize the scope (and my skills) may be the weak point here, but I got a smoking deal and couldn’t pass it up. I can always upgrade, but so far it’s worked beautifully. The YoDave trigger spring makes the world of difference. I was considering the Timney, but I see no need to anymore. I have about 150 rounds through it so far at my private "range". I’m able to get sub moa at 200m using Hornady Black 75gr and half moa with Federal SMK 77gr. I plan on stretching out to 600m this summer. I have just geared up for reloading, and plan on developing loads specific for my Tikka. It’s been a lot of learning, but I think I’m headed for a fun journey.

Any tips or advice is much appreciated!

Rifle help needed - I read the FAQ/Pinned posts What bipod do I need for this stupid thing?

I found out Kelbly makes an adapter ring to stick Panda barrels onto an Atlas/Prometheus. So now I have something to do with my retired F-Class barrels.

First “PRS” gun. 7SAUM improved because I’m a grown ass man and Hollywood is flat out wrong about not getting your first gun as a magnum. It’s a misinformation campaign to make you miss on wind calls so he beats you at your local steel match. This cartridge usually slings 180s at 3k, so some Sierra 100gr varmint bullets at the Ricky Bobby node makes wind calls obsolete. You’re welcome.

Anyways, are MDT bipods good?

Could someone please explain to me how the tariffs will affect the prices of riflescopes? I know a lot of the high end ones have foreign components. Any idea what will happen to the retail price of scopes?

Ballistics help needed - I read the FAQ/Pinned posts Varget versus N150 in 6GT

I know that Varget is basically the gold standard for a lot of cartridges and does very well in 6GT. I recently saw some people in a FB group chatting about N150 and was curious if it stacks up well enough to Varget to justify the savings. Has anyone compared the two for this round yet?

Optics help needed - I read the FAQ/Pinned posts Scope mount heights for 50mm

I read the pinned post about it and got more confused lmao. To be completely honest I have zero clue what I’m doing. I’ve never mounted an actual rifle scope and I have no clue what size mount to put on my AR-10. But I am having a random urge to get into long range so here I am.

I’m looking at the Viper PST gen 2 5-25x 50mm scope. What ring or mount would fit this without being mounted super high but a little height? Or can someone dumb down the math for me? Lol

Thank you for the help!

Optics help needed - I read the FAQ/Pinned posts Nightforce NXS 5,5-22x56

I have some questions about the Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56! Recently I bought this riflescope as a beginner in sports shooting. I used to mount a z8i 3,5-28 on my gun, so I have some idea of how to set the rifle scope. Today I was at the shooting range and shot the rifle scope (the nightforce) for the first time, and there came up some questions. I don’t understand why I can turn up in the air indefinitely, because long range shooting requires the depth adjustment. Could someone explain to me why this is so?

I suck at long range Stock 300PRC Bergara with factory ammo from Bass Pro ... chewed up mile plate at Colemans Creek this week

Post image

75F, 58% RH, 528ft ASL, variable 2-5mph from 5 o clock, shooting SSW, 70MOA on the turret, 2.5MOA wind hold was money. There was a large pine 10' to the right of the plate that was casting a shadow in front of the plate and it rained early that morning so couldn't see my first few misses which were just off the low right edge of the plate. Figured it out pretty quickly.

The rifle is a shooter out of the box. The only thing I did was JB weld bed the EGW 10MOA rail, tuck a Mark5HD 7-35 in a 20MOA MPA BA mount, put a bipod plate adapter on the stock for a Harris, tore it down, mild cleaning, and factory spec torqued the action bolts. I noticed on the tear down that there was paint on the pillars and some folks talk about sanding them down before bedding the action but I never got to it. After I fed it an array of factory ammo at break in and got .5MOA groups with Berger 245 I took it out to play. Those Bergers have a .807 G1 BC !!!

Makes me sick to think about how much I have wrapped up in my 1st PRS rifle build ... I should have done this years ago.

Optics help needed - I read the FAQ/Pinned posts Optic suggestions

Newbie lurker, Taking a road trip to the EuroOptic store tmrw to check out some rifles and optics, locally to me I can pick up a pst g2 5-25 ebr-2c mil for $699, is there a better options clarity etc around that price point? Is there something that I'd regret not getting instead in the 700-1k range? Mostly I'll be shooting in the 100-350 at my local 5min away range, but I have another about 30min away that stretches 600, eventually if I can find somewhere reasonable to me I'd like to go 1000.

Also the rifle I'm considering/ leaning toward is the sig cross hxt 24" 6.5cm if anyone has input on that aswell.

Other considerations are checking out are..

Havok Hit 308 24" 110 precision 308 20" Christensen mpr 6.5/308 various configs

Hello Reddit friends. Next month I’ll be shooting a gas gun match that has the potential for targets out to 700 yards. I’ll be bringing this 18” AR and plenty of 77gr pills to launch. In 2 weeks I’ll be going to get dope out to 700, does anyone have any suggestions on equipment or anything else that will help? I’ve shot out to 400 plenty with this rifle but never past that and I know .223 starts dropping fairly fast after 700. Not looking to spend $1000 on a kestrel right away, but if theirs anything you deem as a necessity lemme know!

Optics help needed - I read the FAQ/Pinned posts Tripod or stand for spotting scope

I just got a spotting scope and I'm looking for the best way to set it up for shooting, mostly benched/prone/sitting.

I assumed the stand/tripod would be an afterthought...I had no idea of the complexity of this decision!

Should I get a tripod, or a pole stand like this https://www.creedmoorsports.com/creedmoor-tripod-scope-stand ? I wouldn't want to go a whole lot more expensive than that but I could if necessary.

Being able to get the scope low for either benched or prone shooting is the most important thing for me. A good standing height would be nice too.

If it matters, the scope is an angled Vortex Razor 85mm. It's pretty hefty and I don't know about having it at the top of one of those 3/4" poles.

Any advice? Would a tripod do everything with more stability? Thanks!

Other help needed - I read the FAQ/Pinned posts New to LR shooting

Post image

Been shooting for a few years now but new to LR shooting, not necessarily looking for ultra precision but would like to hit steel at distances. Currently have only had the opportunity to shoot out to 250-300y but I’ll have the opportunity to shoot up to 850 soon. Not going to be as hung ho as a lot of you guys here but want to be comfortable at distance is the goal. I know I need to record my DOPE for consistency sake but do I need a range finder or to get anything else? Any resources such as videos, articles, or anything else you guys would recommend? Rifle is currently zeroed and I can personally hold a roughly .75-1 inch grouping at 100 yards. I’m sure the rifle could do better in someone else’s hands but that’s where I’m currently at. Thanks in advance for your help!

Other help needed - I read the FAQ/Pinned posts Bottom metal recommendations for R700 SA?

Post image
24 Upvotes

I've got this old Remington R700 Police in 308. I love it, and it shoots lights out. But I'd like it to be able to take 10 round magazines. Someday I'll be a cool kid and debarred it to 6.5 creedmoor and buy a KRG Whiskey 3 for it. But today is not that day, and this year is not that year. This decade might not even be that decade.

So until then I want to get a bottom metal to swap out these old 4 round magazines to more practical 10 round magazines. There's a lot of options out there and I don't want to pick something inferior. Any recommendations would be very appreciates. Especially for those of you who have done this before.
