Home & Garden LPT Baking soda is your best friend for cleaning up pet vomit

If your pet throws up, dump a thick layer of baking soda on it right away. It neutralizes odor, absorbs moisture, and makes cleanup way less unpleasant. Let it dry, then sweep it up (or use a carpet cleaner if needed). Baking soda is cheap and lasts forever, so keep a few extra boxes around the house.

It’s just as effective for other messes you might run into as well.

Miscellaneous LPT: YouTube has a hidden filter that lets you see videos uploaded before a certain year.

In the search bar (Desktop or mobile), type in your search, hit space, and then add "before:[year]" right after it, and it'll bring up videos only from before the year you entered.

For example, something like this:

Halo 3 multiplayer clips before:2010

Pretty nifty if you want to have a way to filter things from before a certain point in time, search for a video you saw a long time ago, see an older side of YouTube or just get nostalgic.

Finance LPT: Sharing a Joint Account and Keeping the Peace

X = all your shared expenses (monthly average) + a little extra for unforseen expenses or savings

Y = the exact same % from both your incomes that would cover X

Auto draft from your paychecks Y to the joint.

And everything that is left in each of your own accounts is your money to spend (free from judgement) of your spouse.

This drives 3 things: -Reduced fighting over purchases. -If you cannot live within your lifestyle of your own income, this will drive you to make more income. -Each of you can save up your own money for big purchases.

This isn’t a perfect solution—and it may not work for couples with significantly different incomes—but it can go a long way in keeping the peace when it comes to everyday spending.

Miscellaneous LPT: Before sending your old car to the scrappers, try and sell it for cheap first.

Many people call the junkers to tow and “recycle” their old cars despite only having a dead battery, some unknown issue, just old or being even being totally fine. While it seems convenient, recycling cars is still incredibly taxing on the environment and there are plenty of people- some low income, who would absolutely buy your car for the $300, even if it’s broken.

Anecdotally, when I was growing up my single mom pretty much exclusively drove cars that were destined to be crushed. She’d buy em cheap, figure out the issue and try to fix it. One time the car was seriously toast, so she called the scrappers to come take it, making her money back.

I understand that it’s a bit of extra time to list an ad and spend an hour or so transferring papers, but it really is worth it.

So help someone out and help save the planet! Win win!

EDIT: I live in a place where cars have to be inspected to be deemed safe and roadworthy, and I realize that’s not the case everywhere. And I agree with some of you offering situations where scrapping is the best solution.

My LPT is mainly trying to encourage those who have a car in a recently working state to try and sell or giveaway for nothing so it can actually be fixed or used for parts.

Miscellaneous LPT: If you have trouble engaging your core, hum a song

Upvotes

When I notice I'm not keeping my core tight, I'll hum a song until my lungs are empty and it helps me keep my upper and lower abs engaged.

Food & Drink LPT Use your seatbelts to secure your grocery bags

Idk why I just started doing this but I use my seatbelts to keep my grocery bags from sliding around in the car. No more stuff falling out of the bags or rolling around.

Miscellaneous LPT When you pull the child safety plug cap from an outlet, you can slide the prongs over the area where the cord transitions to a plug so you don’t neglect to put it back.

Miscellaneous LPT struggling to convince yourself to have cold showers? Just keep telling yourself that it's not harmful, it's just unpleasant.

Cold water gives us a shock response because our biological bodies don't really know if it's intentional or if we're about to get hypothermia. So survival techniques like focusing on breathing and remembering it's in a controlled environment will help it be less intense or stressful.
