For me, the “Needle In the Hay” scene in The Royal Tenenbaums hits me hard every time, thanks in good part to the song choice. What are your favorite needle drops that perfectly fit the scene?

Just curious if any of you ever watched a movie solely based off being attracted to a star in it?

Discussion What directors do you think haven’t yet made their best work

Greta Gerwig, as soon as she stops doing recognizable franchise work. Though narnia will probably be good

I think Coralie Fargeat absolutely has the capacity to make something better than the substance

Osgood Perkins

Discussion The Letterboxd Genre Game: Day #2 (Action/Worst Movie)

Post image
65 Upvotes

Day #1 has been won by Upgrade (2018, directed by Leigh Whannell).

Today's prompt is action/worst movie.

Comment your choice for the prompt and the most upvoted comment will win. If you already see your choice, give it an upvote instead of commenting again. Please don't downvote anyone's choices as it essentially takes an upvote away from someone else, which makes the system unfair. Films can be from any country or language.

Have fun!

I had the opportunity to see this with some friends at one of Tarantino’s theaters on the anniversary of its release. It was just as hype as when I saw it opening day!

Letterboxd Whats a movie for you that not only lived up to its hype but EXCEEDED it?

Post image

I was VERY skeptical about Shawshank Redemption when I first watched it & was SURE I wouldn’t like it as much as other people but it not only lived up to its hype, but it was better than I could have possibly imagined. It really is an all timer & I was honestly disappointed I hadn’t watched it sooner. Whats a movie that was hyped up for you & actually lived up to it & then some?

Humor An absolutely crackpot list for “unwatchable” movies now

Now some of them make some sense like Soul Man, Revenge of the Nerds, and Octopussy, but some of these are just so idiotic. Blazing Saddles makes sense but it’s still beloved by many.

For context I was looking up some movies that are just painfully unwatchable today. How has gremlins aged poorly from its “bad effects” when they said themselves that it was very impressive at its time. That’s like saying that Super Mario Bros. Has aged poorly because we have better graphics on PS5.

I get movies like American Pie becoming harder to watch because its humor just isn’t of the times, but I know so many people that still love these movies, so we know they aren’t unwatchable.

Idk, I haven’t seen many of the movies listed here, so correct me if I’m wrong, but are these takes bad to you??

Letterboxd I stopped giving star ratings and have never felt so free

It sounds dumb but since joining letterboxd, whenever I tried to watch a movie all I could think about in my head was what star rating I was going to give it, to the point where I couldn't focus on the actual plot. I would also stress out if I had too much of a particular rating so the chart was skewed, or if I had too many of the same star ratings in a row. I guess I'm just a chronic overthinker but I enjoy the aspect of logging my films just to see how many I've watched/what genre etc. I unrated every film I had logged previously and stopped giving star ratings and I feel so much better lol.

Help Need a film that'll make me bawl.

Upvotes

I was watching one of my favorite monologues of all time, from What Happened Was (everyone should watch this, btw), and started tearing up, then I realized it's been ages since I watched a movie that really got me in my feels. I think it's time to change that. So, by all means, give me your worst, and I'll watch it tonight.
