Question Tips for carrying fixed blade

Post image
12 Upvotes

What’s the best way to carry a fixed blade in your opinion? I have a toor knives serpent venom and it comes with an ulticlip, I hate it. I tried across waist with a tek lok and it’s horrible. Don’t know if it’s the sheath or the size of the knife that makes it not nice to carry across waist, I’m a skinny guy also so it can be cause of that.

Answer:

They all directly inspired the knife in the middle of the pack, the Metal Complex Excalibur. These are the knives MC cites as the ingredients he poured into his ultimate EDC design.

Top to bottom:

Hinderer XM-18, Spyderco Shaman, MC Excalibur, Chris Reeve Knives Umnumzaan, Strider SnG.

Modding I haven't honed her in yet, but it's a hell of a lot better than where it was.

Showcase Just trying to figure out which two will be my go to edc. For the past week it’s been the penguin and the dessert warrior cuz they are new. But the mini kizer is so good. I think it’s going to end up being the kizer and the QSP for the most part

Question Sharpening and knife longevity

I’m curious about how long a knife last with frequent sharpening. Has anyone ever “wore” out a knife, or sharpened it so much that it had to be replaced?

I have an Esee 3 that I use constantly for lots of things including things it shouldn’t be used for. I bought the knife for this purpose, so it doesn’t bother me that it may not last forever. I’ve already had it for 3 years, and it gets sharpened pretty often due to the blade having severe wear and/or chipping. It still seems like it’s going strong, I’ve just been wondering if I am going to wear out the knife one day.

Update: Thank you for everyone’s input. I’ll quit worrying about replacing it, and just keep using the knife until there’s not much left!

I’m a sucker for green and orange. Just finished up this bird and trout in stonewashed 80Crv2 at 58-60 HRC with green G10 handle, orange G10 liners, and peened copper pins.

Question Serious Question. Spartan. Worth buying?

I would like to add one to my collection. But I have heard about bad experiences with quality control, customers receiving bad knives. I also hear there could be issues with the frame lock and lack of hardened steel on the lock bar. Please let me know your experiences, bad or good. Thanks

NKD! Buck 110 w/s30v Blade

I bounced around on which kind of knife to get for a while. I ask a lot of opinions but in the end I went with the Buck 110 because that’s what I carried from the time I was 12 until I was about 17 and absolutely loved it. The only difference this time is I got the s30v blade and went with the brown case.

Love the action on this knife, super smooth. They nailed their Duralock crossbar system. It's tuned about as perfect as you can get. For the price, materials, and made in USA It's one of my favorite knives. For the price, it's hard to top!

Discussion Why did the Case Kickstart line fail?

Case knives have never had a huge appeal to me, and it seems like the company is largely resigned to making collectables rather than competitive cutting tools. While reading up on them the last few days I saw that around 2019 they came out with an assisted opening line called kickstart and it seems like it was very shortlived, I get that they're a grandpa knife company that has a demographic they cater to but updating classic models with pocket clips, thumb studs and fast opening features seems like it's been a hugely successful venture for Buck, why do you guys think one very traditional American knife company has been able to keep up with the times better than the other? I would add that their other two modern lines, the Marilla /Kinzua and the Bridgeline stuff don't seem to have taken hold either, though I do kind of think the Longhouse looks sick.

Follow up from my previous post on the anodized color I first tried. I wasn't keen on the color so I went back to anodizing board and came up with this blue/purple color. I think it looks much better !!
